289: The reason for strength 289: The reason for strength Chapter 289 I felt pity for them.

The people who were going against Rose.

It was not possible for a thirty-five-year-old to reach the rank of an SS rank blessed.

Where it was possible for the heroes or the main characters, it wasn’t possible for them to reach the participation rank by this age.

Even the girls reached the A rank thanks to me, otherwise, they would have still been somewhere around the C rank even if they worked their hardest.

No main character could possibly reach that rank to join so there was nothing from them.

Other than them, there was no one else special enough to be able to reach such heights.

I mean, Celandine was but she seemed to be a special, special case.

Other than me and Celandine, no one even came close enough to that power level of hers.

“An..

Another opponent do..wn with a single… punch.” Even the announcer had given up at this point.

It was great hype at first as Rose was taking her opponents out with just one punch.

But then it became a little of a spectacle.

And then a problem.

Of course, this revealed Rose’s rank and when I was revealed, most of the group three participants gave up, and those who didn’t, were utterly humiliated after getting knocked out by a girl half their size, and more than half their age.

Seeing that scene, those who didn’t leave, also started to leave.

But that would have ruined the entire setup of this tournament which was precisely why I was also holding back.

So, in the end, it was decided that Rose would be advanced to the finals of the group three, causing many to stop from leaving.

Still, they knew that they would lose in the finals, but at least they had a chance to show their true worth now.

Not everyone was here for the treasures.

Most of them were here just to make their names.

Let themselves be known to the entire empire.

“Uaagghh!!” My opponent groaned as I hit him with my punch considerably held back.

I made sure not to harm them to the point they wouldn’t be able to stand, unlike Rose, who didn’t care at all where she was aiming and destroyed the futures of at least nine men.

[Those were the truly pitiful ones] ‘May they rest in heaven,’ I prayed for their souls because I could only imagine the amount of pain they were all going through.

[Never kicked in the nuts?] ‘Girls usually know how much of an asset those are.’ [Until they get to know you] [Then they all want to do it] Well, I do admit the downsides of having an affair with multiple women are severe but to a man, variety matters.

[You’re a scum] [Nothing like your father in that manner] ‘Oh yeah?’ ‘He married to you?’ […] Ha!

She had nothing to say to that.

I admit that my father was a one-woman man but it wasn’t like he never had relationships before my mother.

Well, only one but I didn’t know who it was until I came to this world.

Anyway, the tournament was going smoothly.

There were some extras, making themselves stand out but nothing was compared to Rose.

Rose was simply a count and there were hundreds of Counts in the empire but even they weren’t as strong as her.

But since she was just a count, I could hear many Earls and Dukes discussing about her, sending people to inquire about her family.

Well, too bad, losers.

She was already mine.

I stopped worrying about that and focused on my next opponent.

To be honest, I could get why Rose was so quick in the beginning.

This is crazy boring.

Nothing like the flashy tournament one would expect where people yell the names of moves and shoot sparkling things from various orifices.

Instead, they would yell, charge at me with their weapons raised, cast long incantation spells, and waste a good ten seconds of my time in which I could have busted their as*es ten times.

Reality sure was disappointing.

Still, I couldn’t take Rose’s approach because that wouldn’t be fair as well.

Already my plan to mentally corrupt a good amount of citizens of this empire was screwed when I heard that only the end ones would be allowed to touch the sword.

It made me mad, to be honest.

Here I do so much extensive planning and they do this to throw it out the window like a male ho*ker by an apathetic lady.

Shame on them.

[…] [You really have to no shame] So, to get back at the old men who hold nefarious intentions towards me and now that I said it, it sounded a lot dirtier than I assumed, I have devised a new plan.

[What is it?] ‘I’m working on it.’ [You don’t one, do you?] ‘Not even the ‘P’ of the plan.’ But, I will screw them up one day, that I promise.

For now, I will just focus on the sword because that’s needed to keep up with my growing strength.

Soon enough, it was time for me and Rose to face each other.

The quickest to end was our group while the rest of the group wasn’t even halfway through yet.

But, even if we were in the finals, we would both be advancing to the next round so it didn’t really matter if we fought or not.

“Be careful in the next round,” I said to Rose before I turned to leave.

Zap!

[Celestial shield] I put up the shield in time and reinforced it with MP because as soon as I did, an impact which not only shook the entire platform, but the entire stage where other platforms were as well.

The entire arena felt that impact and stopped in its tracks.

Everyone turned to look towards us while I turned to look at Rose who was still letting out lightning from her punch as she exerted even more power and tried to get through my shield.

[Now I wonder what that’s about] ‘I know what that’s about.’ [Magic cannon] Fwoosh!

Rose turned into lightning and materialized a little away from me, successfully dodging my counter.

I guess I was reading too much into it.

A downside of my intellect.

But I was wrong.

In this world, in every life, everyone has a reason to pursue strength.

Some do it for love, some for revenge, some were born twisted, some want the power to be the strongest in the world and live like a king, and on and on.

Even for me, the only reason I ever wanted to be strong was because I wanted to defeat my old man.

In short, everyone has a goal and they pursue it to achieve fulfillment.

However, for the first time in my long, long life, I have come across someone who doesn’t have a reason.

Laura, Alicia, Sophien, Asmara, Max, and even the main cast have a reason.

Rose doesn’t.

Her family was well off now, her life was good and even if she were to retire for life right now, her life would be great until the day she died and she would still be leaving a good life for those who came after her.

Yet here she was, provoking me to make her strong and she didn’t even have a reason for it.

Just the natural, unadulterated desire to become strong and nothing else.

No one, and I say that including myself, was that determined.

Humans needed a drive.

Creation needed a drive to proceed in life.

[She doesn’t have one] ‘No, she doesn’t.’ [That makes you excited, doesn’t it?] ‘It’s exhilarating.’ [Wipe that grin off your face] [You’re scaring everyone] I didn’t care if I was letting my intent lose and scaring everyone.

There was a person in front of my eyes that I had never seen before.

The person who desired nothing.

No reason to do all of this yet she was doing this anyway.

She just wanted to be strong.

Not to stand by me, not to stand as a queen above everyone else and certainly not to achieve some great goal.

And that was what made it so amazing.

[Angel’s blessing has been activated] [All stats increased by 50%] […] [The old man told you not to make a scene] ‘Fu*k the old man.’ I was pissed about not having my plan succeed anyway.

This was a good chance to take it out on him.

He’ll deal with the aftermath, and I will have an SS rank blessed on my hand by the end of this fight.

As soon as my stats increased and I sowed the slightest intention of taking a step forward, Rose hurriedly jumped back, her guard the highest it could have been.

“If you were going to be so trippy, you shouldn’t have started this in the first place,” I said even though I doubted she knew half of what I said.

But she didn’t need to understand what I said.

She understood my intentions well enough which could be seen from the trembling of her hands.

She was scared… And she was excited.

The only problem was; I was too.
