265: Nature?

265: Nature?

Chapter 265 “I’ll be home soon,” Andrew said over the phone with a smile.

Julie, on the other end, smiled and said, “I can’t wait for the surprise you have for me.” “Believe me.

I can’t wait either.” Andrew said and they talked for a few more minutes before Andrew hung up.

He stood up and was putting the documents in his bag when the door to his office opened and Gabriel walked in.

“Oh, hey.

I was just heading home for the night.” Andrew said.

“Mhm.” Gabriel said, “I dealt with that case of yours.” “Yeah, I heard.

Thanks.” Andrew said before he added, “I owe you a terrible one for this.

Darnell has helped me out greatly on the streets.” “I know.

That’s why I defended him and got him off the murder charge.” Gabriel said before he took a few more steps and continued, “Of course, that wasn’t the only reason for showing him mercy.” “What do you mean?” Andrew asked as he just finished putting all the documents in his bag.

“Suzan Dahmer.

Six years old.” Gabriel said which froze Andrew in his tracks.

“Looking at your reaction, I can only assume you knew.” Gabriel said with a forced smile, trying to keep himself calm, “Why did you do that?” “Gabe,” Andrew said as he placed his bag on the table and added, “Listen to me.” “Just tell me this.

Did you know about it or not?” Gabriel asked.

“He made a mistake.

He needed a chance.” Andrew said.

“Tell that to the six years old Suzie.

She would have been twenty-seven by now.

Same age as Julie.” Gabriel said.

“Gabe, don’t go there,” Andrew begged Gabriel.

“Tell me, what would you have done if it was Julie?” Gabriel asked.

“Gabe, please,” Andrew said.

“I talked to the parents.

They want justice for what he did.

Unfortunately, they can’t get it.

So I offered them revenge.

They agreed.” Gabriel said, regardless of Andrew’s pleas.

“But since you two have history, I’m gonna let you kill him.

If you don’t.

Then I will.

And I will make it more painful than hell for him.” Gabriel said before he stopped speaking.

He was waiting for an answer.

“You know I can’t do that and since Celina, you can’t either.” Andrew tried to use every scenario in his aspect that he could.

“Yes, it has been a long time since I have killed.

Hundreds and thousands of years to be exact.

But I haven’t forgotten how to cut open an artery.

I haven’t forgotten how much force I need to hit a skull using a blunt object to inflict internal hemorrhaging but simply a bruise on the outside.” As Gabriel recounted hundreds of ways he could kill the man who was Andrew’s friend, one thing was clear to Andrew, Gabriel was going to kill him painfully.

“Everybody deserves a second chance, Gabriel.

I’m sure he does too.” Andrew pleaded with Gabriel but Gabriel wouldn’t listen no matter what.

“Is it a yes, or no?” Gabriel demanded an answer.

“Don’t,” Andrew said.

“No, it is then.” Gabriel nodded and turned to leave.

Andrew knew where he was going so he burst into lightning and stopped his way by appearing in front of him.

“Don’t, Gabe.

Killing is not an answer.” “Move,” Gabriel said as he stopped.

“No,” Andrew was also adamant in his decision.

“I see,” Gabriel said before a flash of light occurred in front of Andrew and Gabriel disappeared from his view.

Andrew hurriedly coated himself in lightning to respond to Gabriel’s attack but he didn’t see it coming when he was pushed and slammed into the wall of the office, breaking through it and destroying many more things along the way.

As for Gabriel, he reappeared in front of Andrew with another flash of light and said, “Stay out of my way.” Gabriel turned and began to walk towards the elevator when Andrew also burst into lightning and struck Gabriel who also covered himself in white light but couldn’t respond to Andrew’s attack.

They both went down the floor and then another one.

Gabriel tried to get Andrew off of him but Andrew was clutching on tight.

Seeing no other choice, Gabriel could do nothing but hit him.

Andrew was struck right in the middle of his face and felt disoriented for a moment which was enough for the lightning around him to disappear.

Gabriel used that opportunity to free himself but Andrew was quick to collect himself and once again, after bursting into lightning, he slammed into Gabriel.

As they both broke through the glass walls of the building, they both succumbed to gravity only both of them turned into light and lightning respectively, and appeared in front of each other in mid-air where Andrew hit Gabriel in his stomach but Gabriel was also quick in delivering a jab.

They again disappeared into mid-air and appeared somewhere above the clouds where Gabriel was the one to deliver a kick this time and it was quite effective because Andrew’s senses were taken by pain and he lost control of himself.

He was falling when Gabriel materialized in front of him, held him by his hand and they both appeared on top of the Smith Enterprises.

As they fell, Andrew seized the opportunity and straddled Gabriel, pinning his arms beneath his legs as he punched Gabriel in the face.

He kept hitting him when Gabriel’s eyes shined and Andrew’s movements stopped mid-movement.

Gabriel pushed him off of himself and now it was his turn to be on the top.

“Why in the world would you defend a man like him?!” Gabriel yelled as he punched Andrew the same way he had hit him.

Andrew burst into lightning and appeared on top of Gabriel again, holding him by his back as he said, “Why would you think I’m protecting him?!

It’s you who I’m protecting!” Gabriel turned his palm upwards and fire erupted from it which forced Andrew to step away from Gabriel which was all the time he needed to tackle him and push him to the floor.

“Protecting me?!

So that I can live with the fact that I defended a child killer?!” Gabriel said as he was ready to punch Andrew when he stopped.

Andrew was just staring at him as he softly said, “Because I didn’t want you to return to being a killer.” Gabriel paused, he didn’t do anything for a while before he brought the punch down and hit Andrew anyway before he got off of him by moving to his side and just sat there.

Andrew looked at the sky, the stars shining above New York City while Gabriel stared into the distance, looking at the tall Skyscrapers of the city which were shining in the night and creating a scene no less beautiful than the stars in the sky.

“She was never the reason I stopped killing,” Gabriel said.

Andrew remained quiet, still looking at the sky while panting.

“I stopped killing because I was enjoying it.

And I was, and am to this day, scared that I would enjoy it if I did again.” Gabriel said in a soft voice while he still looked at the vast city of New York.

“So you hated it?” Andrew asked.

“No.

I was just afraid of disappointing Dad.” Gabriel replied.

“Why?” Andrew asked.

“Because we don’t kill for enjoyment.

We kill only because we have to.” Gabriel said.

“After her, I just realized, I didn’t have to kill anyone.

I just had to stay away from everything.

From the madness of the world that would compel me to kill, the cruelty.

That was the reason I killed so I didn’t go near it, ever again.” Gabriel explained.

“But I sent you to it today.” Andrew put the pieces together.

“It’s not that I want to kill him.

I have to kill him.

Because if I don’t, I’d be denying who I am.” Gabriel said.

“You’re not a murderer who was raised to kill,” Andrew said.

“Maybe.” Gabriel said before he added, “But I was never raised to kill.

I was always who I was.” Gabriel said, “A killer.

I just made sure that impulse was directed to those who deserved it and it became easier.

Living became easier.” “That’s not who you are,” Andrew said.

“No, Andrew.

That’s exactly who I am.

Who we are.” Gabriel said.

“No!” Andrew sat up straight as he said, “That’s not who I am and I have proven that by never killing anyone.

And you don’t have to be one either if you could just stop and think for a moment.” “No matter what I do, the emotions within me wouldn’t let me.

Even now they compel me to do it.

They are becoming harder and harder to control with each passing moment.” Gabriel said.

“Then channel them.

Do what I do.

Whenever I think of that, I think of you because you were the only person to accept me.

And now I have Julie.

Happiness in life doesn’t mask the bad things but it sure as hell cannot be affected by the bad things.” Andrew said.

“Haha.” Gabriel chuckled as he said, “I wish I had something like that.

I don’t.” “Then find one.

I’ll help you.” Andrew said.

“You can’t.” Gabriel said before he looked Andrew in the eyes and said, “No one can.” “Touching.” Before Andrew could say anything, they heard a voice from behind them.

They turned to see their father standing there with a smile on his face, “But as much as I would like you brothers to bond, maybe you should head over to East Avenue, 567.

You may find something disturbing there, but you will prevent it if you make it in time.” Gabriel didn’t think for a moment and disappeared from his spot.

He had teleported and seeing that, Andrew burst into lightning and disappeared as well but not before he saw the amusing expression on his father’s face.

He was smiling with pride.
