261: Simplicity and Complexity 261: Simplicity and Complexity Chapter 261 “Can I come in?” Andrew asked Aliya while peeking his head in the office door.

Although Angeline was at the door, she didn’t dare stop Andrew and just informed Aliya of his visit.

“Sure,” Aliya replied and Andrew made his way inside before he said, “Uh…” “…” He didn’t know how to start.

“Is that it?” Aliya asked.

“No.” Andrew replied before he said, “Look, I know you and I don’t get along well and I doubt we ever will.” “You’re right.” Aliya was quite harsh with her words as she immediately agreed with Andrew.

“Uh… right.” Awkward, that was all Andrew could say before he asked, “Look, I just want to know something about Gabriel.” “Ask him,” Aliya said.

“I did.

He didn’t share.” Andrew said.

“That’s surprising,” Aliya said.

“Who’s the girl he proposed to?” Andrew ended up asking which made Aliya stop in the middle of whatever she was writing.

She put the pen aside and said, “Look, I don’t know what information you stumbled upon, but I don’t think you should get into this one.” “Why not?” Andrew asked.

“Because he finally managed to bury it deep enough.

It would just be harder for him if he had to deal with it all over again over your curiosity.” Aliya said.

“Then sate my curiosity.

Tell me who she was.” Andrew argued and in return, Aliya remained quiet.

However, Andrew was adamant.

He wasn’t going to leave until he knew what this was about so he remained in the room and kept looking at Aliya.

“Haa…” Finally, Aliya gave in and said, “Smiths don’t enjoy killing.

They kill because they have to.” “I doubt that,” Andrew said.

Andrew was against killing and there were many other ways to settle disputes than killing people.

He was a Smith too so he knew that the impulse to kill could be controlled.

“Haha.” Aliya chuckled slightly before she said, “Smiths don’t enjoy killing.” She repeated herself because whatever Andrew said was wrong.

“However, with Selina Freeman, Gabriel enjoyed it.

He loved it.” Aliya said and looked into the empty space as if she were reminiscing some old memory that was both horrifying and nostalgic to her.

“So what happened to her?” Andrew asked.

“She died,” Aliya said.

“How?” Andrew asked.

“I thought he was gone,” Aliya said instead of replying to Andrew’s question.

“I thought he was consumed by insanity and became a killer.

One who enjoyed it.” “…” There was silence in the room for a while as Andrew stood still, waiting for her to continue, to find her words and she did soon enough.

“But he wasn’t.

He was still him.

I thought he would choose her above anything, even me or Mom and Dad, but he didn’t.

When it came to his morals, he plunged his hand through her chest and ripped her heart out.” Aliya recounted the moment as if she was there.

“I watched him for years, trying to struggle with the damage she did to him.

With how much she wounded him and turned him into a monster, I thought he was gone for good, but I was wrong.

He never stopped being himself.

So I guess Celina failed there.” Aliya said.

“And?” Andrew asked.

“And?” Aliya asked back.

“Did he ever get over her?” Andrew asked.

“He did,” Aliya replied.

“How do you know?” Andrew asked.

“Because he stopped killing,” Aliya said, “Ever since her death, he hasn’t killed even one person.

Why do you think he spared your buddies?

Because he didn’t want to make you angry?

If he wanted to kill your friends, he would have done and there would be nothing you would have been able to do about it.” Andrew remained quiet as he heard those words.

He couldn’t formulate an answer and no questions would leave his mouth.

He simply turned around and left.

Aliya watched him leave and dug her head back into paperwork as a tear formed in her eyes but she wiped it before it got any further.

**************** “How’s this?” Andrew asked as he showed a stunning gold, diamond, and ruby ring to Gabriel.

“As flattered as I am, I don’t think it would suit me,” Gabriel replied.

“It’s not for you, it’s for Julie,” Andrew said.

“Riiigghhtt.” Gabriel said before he added, “So you decided to go with this proposal thing, huh?” “Yeah.

So what do you think?

Will she like it?” Andrew asked.

“I have absolutely no idea.” Gabriel said before he asked, “Do you know what’s simple as hell and what’s complex as hell?” “What?” Andrew curiously asked.

“Truth and Lie.” Gabriel said, “Truth is as simple as the word itself while a lie cannot be defined by even the word complex.” “Dad, who could have crafted a diamond as big as the world’s biggest mountain proposed mom with a ring made of copper.

His mother, Grandma, gave him that ring and he proposed with it.

I still see Mom, even to this day, look at that ring from time to time and smile.” Gabriel recounted.

“Okay?” Andrew didn’t know where this was going.

“My point is that a proposal is like truth.

Simple and to the point.

Nothing complex like a lie in there.

If you want to propose to her, then do it with truth.

Keep it simple and straight.

You don’t need a fancy ring for that.

You just need simple honest words for that.

I have seen couples who didn’t even have clothes to wear live happily whereas couples who could afford diamonds, gold, and jewelry; lie and cheat with each other.” “You don’t want that kind of life.

You want to keep it simple.

Keep it true as well.” Gabriel finished.

“Haa…” Andrew let out a short laugh before he said, “My truth is far more complicated, or complex as you put it than she could fathom.” “Why so?” Gabriel asked.

“How do I tell her this?” Andrew opened his pal, extended it, and pointed it to the glass window before a giant thunderbolt left his palm and lighted up the night sky.

“Would you have told Selina who you are?” Andrew asked.

Gabriel smiled as he said, “So you talked to Aliya, huh?” Gabriel paused and sighed, “I did on the first day.” He then looked at Andrew and said, “I never lied.” Gabriel stood up from his spot and said, “And neither should you.

Otherwise, you won’t work out.

You will never work out.” ************** Gabriel was in his office, working on a few projects when his secretary informed him that there was someone to see him.

Gabriel found that strange because he didn’t have a set meeting with anyone but when he asked who it was, he was a little surprised and let the visitor in.

The one to enter was a blonde woman with rosy pink skin and piercing green eyes.

“Hi,” Julie said as she moved closer to Gabriel’s desk.

“Have a seat, Miss Ross.

I doubt you’re here for work.” Gabriel said.

“No, I just….

I just wanted to talk about Andrew.” Julie said as she took a seat across from Gabriel.

“You want to know about his dirty secrets?

Can’t let you in on any.

You know, Bro-code and all.” Gabriel jokingly said.

“No, that’s not what I’m looking for,” Julie said before she picked up her courage to say what she was there for.

“I just wanted to thank you.” “For what?” Gabriel asked.

“When Andrew asked me out, I faced a lot of discrimination from everyone.

You know, classic secretary gold digger scenario.” Julie said.

“I’m well aware of how harsh the world can be,” Gabriel said.

“That’s what I’m saying.

I didn’t care much about discrimination from them.

But I did care about what his family would think and to be honest, I was very hesitant to let this go any further when Andrew told me that not only were not against it but also very supportive of this, I just knew I had to thank you for that.” Julie said.

“Well, Miss Ross, my father raised me well enough to know when someone’s trying to take advantage of you and when it’s real.

When I saw you and Andrew, I knew it was real.

You don’t have to worry about anything.

Not from me and definitely not from my family.” Gabriel said.

“Thanks.” Julie said with a smile and added, “This means a lot.” “Mhm,” Gabriel replied.

Julie stood up and said, “Then I will leave you to work.” “Sure.

Go and be lovey-dovey with your fiancé.” Gabriel said while he gestured at the ring on Julie’s ring finger.

It wasn’t the ring that Andrew showed Gabriel.

It was a simple silver ring with nothing written on it but when Julie saw it, a pure smile appeared on her face.

“It’s beautiful,” Gabriel said.

Julie nodded and just before she opened the door, she said, “I like too, Muffin.” “Pardon?” Gabriel asked.

“I like it too,” Julie said with a smile before she left, leaving Gabriel with a question but he soon shook his head thinking he heard wrong.
