The Archangel of Death - Chapter 258
258: What girls like 258: What girls like Chapter 258 “Angeline, may I ask what my brother has been doing here for the last five minutes?” Gabriel asked, and unlike his calm sentence and voice, his face was anything but calm.
“Gabe, calm down.
She was just doing her job.” Andrew said.
“What did I tell you this morning, Angeline?
Did I not make myself clear?” Gabriel asked, his voice still calm but the anger on his face intensifying by the minute.
“What’s going on out here?” While they were busy, a girl came from the inside, a girl who was dressed in a simple suit, unlike an office lady who usually wore a skirt, she was in a pair of pants.
“Oh, didn’t you know?
Angeline is getting fired today.” Gabriel said.
“What?
Why?” Aliya, the girl who was also the Vice Chairman asked.
“Oh, because she didn’t know her place so a .45 magnum was fired into her skull hence firing her forever,” Gabriel said with a smile.
“Gabe, let’s not make a scene here,” Andrew said.
“Listen to him,” Aliya said before she turned to the terrified Angeline who everyone had forgotten but Gabriel, “Take a good look at his face and memorize it.
He’s the Chairman’s son.
You treat him like one.” “Ye-Yes,” Angeline replied, scared out of her wits.
“And learn to sleep with both eyes open.
And if I were you, I would remove anything sharp from your house.” Gabriel said with the most of the sweetest smile that could have charmed anyone regardless of their gender yet to Jacqueline, that smile was worse than the devil’s.
“Enough.” Andrew grabbed Gabriel and pulled him inside after Aliya made her way inside.
“You know eventually; people fight back to tyranny,” Aliya said as she settled in her seat.
“Not before a few genocides are committed.
May I start today with your blessing, Vice Chairman?” Gabriel asked.
“Sweet.” Aliya said before she turned to Andrew and asked, “What did you need?” Andrew gave her the file without a word which she signed without a word after which, Andrew left leaving Gabriel and Aliya alone.
“You couldn’t have been more obvious,” Gabriel said.
“Of what?” Aliya asked.
“That you don’t accept him.
I expected Mom to do so, but even you?
The most benevolent person I know.” Gabriel was unhappy, to say the least.
“Yeah, well, I guess I’m not as benevolent as you thought I was,” Aliya said.
“No, you are.” Gabriel said before he moved closer, put his hands on the desk’s edge, and said, “You are the most benevolent person I know, and no doubt, you would never treat him like this.
You would accept him, even if it meant angering Mom so there’s something else; something only you have.” Aliya looked deep into Gabriel’s eyes with her own, she didn’t blink nor did he, and they kept their gaze firmer.
In the end, the loser of that contest was Aliya who lowered her gaze and pretended to get busy with her work.
“I knew it.” Gabriel said, “You saw something, didn’t you?” “I can’t see his future.
He’s not alive, remember?” Aliya said.
“Then not his.
But you saw mine, didn’t you?” Gabriel asked.
Aliya didn’t reply.
She had no reply.
Even if she did know something, she couldn’t tell Gabriel even if she wanted to.
There was no grand scheme of plans behind it.
It was simply the fact that Gabriel would be too much hurt if she were to tell him what she knew.
Seeing her quiet like that, Gabriel didn’t say anything and left.
Seeing him leave like that didn’t sit well with Aliya but she didn’t do anything as well.
She remained quiet.
********** “Hey,” Gabriel said the next day when the entire incident had blown over and Andrew had tried a great deal to stop Gabriel from entering Angeline’s apartment last night with a pair of blades.
“Hey, to you too,” Andrew said as he sipped from his glass of milk.
“Milk?
Seriously?” Gabriel asked.
“I don’t know.
I like milk.
It’s certainly better than alcohol.” Andrew said.
“Wouldn’t know.
Never made the comparison.” Gabriel said since he never had any alcohol before.
“I’m curious.” Andrew said as he closed a file and asked, “Never, ever?” “Nope.” Gabriel simply replied.
“I mean, you never had the urge to?” Andrew asked.
“Nope.
Wasn’t interested in it, ever.” Gabriel said before he added, “Didn’t even do it as an experiment to sate my curious mind like how I jumped into a volcano to see whether I would melt or not.” Andrew looked at Gabriel in awkward silence before he asked, “Okay, what?” “So how’s it going?
Work good?” Gabriel asked.
“Aside from how much it is, nothing else,” Andrew said.
“Ahh, he’s dumping work on you now too, huh?
No wonder I had a lesser stash on my desk this morning.” Gabriel said.
“Yeah, we brothers share the pain now,” Andrew said.
While they were having the small talk, the door to Andrew’s office opened and a woman walked in after getting permission, “Good morning, Mister Smith.” She greeted Gabriel who nodded before she turned to Andrew and said, “Sir, I need some signs on these documents.” “Ab, uh, yes, right,” Andrew replied with a momentary pause which a perceptive person like Gabriel didn’t miss.
Gabriel looked at the girl once again, this time for real.
A tall blonde girl whose height was the same as Andrew with her heels.
She, just like Aliya, wasn’t wearing an office skirt but pants.
Her skin was rosy pink and her hair fell all the way down to her waist.
Looks wise, she was good, but Gabriel wasn’t overly impressed.
However, Andrew was.
And he was impressed a lot.
Something Gabriel didn’t miss.
“Thank you, Mister Smith.” She said to Andrew and then left after nodding at Gabriel with a smile and Gabriel nodded back with a smile of his own.
Then Gabriel turned to Andrew and said, “So, Mister Smith, something you’d like to share?” “What?” Andrew had no idea what Gabriel was talking about.
Gabriel sighed and said, “You froze in front of her.” “No, I didn’t,” Andrew said in his defense.
“You said, and I repeat ‘Ab, ah, yes, right.’.
The classic sign of an idiot.” Gabriel said.
“I was just…
you know.” Andrew couldn’t say anything to that.
“Yes, I know.
My brother’s fallen.” Gabriel said.
“I’m not fallen,” Andrew said defensively.
“Oh, you have.
You have fallen to the temptation of the fairer gender.” Gabriel said.
“I… have not.” Andrew tried to weasel his way out but he wasn’t convincing anyone.
“Well, if you ever need a wingman, you know who to call,” Gabriel said with a smug smile.
“Oh, please, I would rather keep you away from her,” Andrew said.
“From her, huh?” Gabriel said as if he had caught Andrew.
“I mean; any woman I get in a relationship with,” Andrew said.
“What?
Why?
I’m the greatest wingman to ever exist.” Gabriel said.
“You’re also the most handsome man to ever exist.
The number of women who can tear their gaze from you is in single digits.
I’d rather not it be the girl I am with anywhere near you.” Andrew said.
“Is that so?” Gabriel asked before he said, “Well, as flattering as that was, she wasn’t looking at me, was she?” “She totally smiled at you when she left,” Andrew said.
“Oh gee, I wonder why?
Maybe because I’m her boss’s boss’s boss’s boss.” Gabriel said.
“Point taken but still,” Andrew argued.
“She just smiled politely at her boss, otherwise, her eyes were on you,” Gabriel reassured Andrew.
“Really?” Andrew asked.
“Yes,” Gabriel replied.
“Are you sure?” Andrew asked again.
“I am.
I am now also sure that she is the one.” Gabriel said.
“No, I was still speaking hypothetically,” Andrew said.
“Well, then, hypothetically, you’re never gonna stand a chance if you act like that,” Gabriel said.
“What do you mean?” Andrew asked.
“You froze in front of her.
Girls like men who are confident, lovely with a little twinge of dominating confidence.” Gabriel said.
“All women?” Andrew asked.
“Girls don’t like it when you hide behind a pole and look at them from afar, talk to them shyly, or leave anonymous gifts for them.
Girls like a man who can walk up to them, tell them why they’re beautiful, and sweep them off their feet.
A man who can’t even start a conversation is no do.” Gabriel imparted his massive wisdom.
“Well, don’t they find it, I don’t know, cute?” Andrew asked.
“Yeah, that’s why Rachel went for Andre and not Ross,” Gabriel said.
“It’s not cute.
It’s lacking courage.
You lack courage.
So go up there, tell her you’re interested in her, tell her what part you find interesting, but make sure it isn’t physical, something about her life, like she’s sincere, or benevolent or something.
She wouldn’t just look at you then.
She would also smile at you.” Saying his last bit, Gabriel stood up and left.
As for Andrew, he also closed the file after a while and got up from his seat, intending to make his way to the girl from before but before he could, “Dope gig, dude.” Someone from his past had come.
And they hadn’t come without trouble.
