243: Result 243: Result Chapter 243 Sirius stared at me with narrowed eyes, not a good expression on his face, nothing even remotely pleasant on that face.

I stared at him with a smile, the most pleasant and charming smile of mine and it sure as hell worked seeing Michelle was sort of in a daze even with her secret boyfriend standing next to her.

“Ahem.” Desmond faked a cough to get her out of the trance that caused her face to redden a little from embarrassment.

Seriously, can you blame her?

I’d doubt her being a woman if she didn’t fall for this face.

[Gosh your narcissism knows no bounds] “That’s the third one,” Sirius said.

I smiled and showed a clueless expression afterward.

Third one?

What third one?

Miss world?

What was he talking about?

[He’s talking about the orientation artifact] [Then the second and third test artifacts] [That’s three by my count] Oh, that~~~.

Well, unfortunate things happen all the time.

No need to dwell on them for so long.

But, admitting in my mind was okay and all, admitting to this old man in front of me wouldn’t be a nice thing for me so I said, “How was I supposed to know something would happen to the artifact when all I did was fight the guy fair and square?” I was totally innocent.

To~~ta~~~lly~~~~ innocent.

Sirius narrowed his eyes even more as the rest of the table of the head professors looked at me as well, but they, unlike Sirius and Desmond, had hesitant expressions on their faces.

After all, I knew some of their deep dark secrets.

“I believe student Adrian is correct.

It was just a mistake.” One of the head professors said.

I think his name was Otto or something.

“Exactly.

How could he have known such a thing would happen.” The other female head professor, other than Michelle, Abigail I think, also nodded in assent and agreed with the other professor.

Ahh… That was so nice of them to say.

Should I buy them a present?

Sirius stared at the head professors, knowing that it was in vain.

They were all too far gone and there was nothing to be done about it.

He looked at Desmond and Michelle, both of whom nodded and Sirius turned back to me after that.

“Very well.

You may leave.” Sirius said and asked me to leave.

Guess they had something else to discuss.

It was just the start of the day and we were supposed to be in the classroom when I was called to the meeting room.

After that, I came back to my class.

The girls asked me what was going on but I just said that they wanted to know the details of my method in the test.

Since Asmara wasn’t in the circle yet, they couldn’t ask her so they asked me.

I just told them basic things though because I couldn’t delve too much into it when I didn’t know the full story myself.

The current problem I faced was that I faced too many problems.

Just the other races weren’t enough, there was church, my own family, well, most of it, Sophien’s ex-fiancé’s mother, and last but not least, now the addition of an immortal who could keep himself alive on magic.

Magic that I was well familiar with.

Magic of the price.

A sacrifice in simpler terms.

And the way he used it was straight to the point as well.

Nothing too complex.

Almost as if he was following a guidebook straight to the point, adding nothing of his own.

Makes one wonder why his curiosity wasn’t invoked or anything.

A normal person gets a power like that and they go full-on experimental and try different things but he didn’t even budge from the starting point and remained on what really mattered to him.

His life.

[You find that surprising?] A little.

Humans weren’t created to be satisfied with just a little.

They want more and more and even when their bellies are full and they have everything they wished for, they still go for more.

Just like gambling.

[Yet he didn’t] Not one bit.

Which meant he was very strong-willed or was under watch.

And I couldn’t lean on either of those options because I was uncertain about them as well.

I wasn’t sure if that was all of it or if there was more to it.

Something that I was missing.

And if I was, then it probably had to do with that clichéd ‘him’ setting.

“Settle down,” Desmond said as he entered the class.

He also managed to get me out of my thoughts as well.

With everyone in place, he began, “The groups to pass this exam, well, groups might be the wrong word, but only one group passed this exam.

Student Adrian, please stand up.” Desmond didn’t look very happy with everyone but I still stood up as he called, “You did very well and thanks to you, nine other students passed even though they didn’t deserve to.

Well done.” Harsh as always.

I quietly took my seat and let Desmond show the result chart to the entire class.

“In the one group that passed, Student Adrian obtained the SS ranking while the others only got A rank.

As for the other groups, although individuals have managed to obtain good marks, they still failed to finish the test so that will affect their rankings.” Desmond continued harshly and didn’t care about the feelings of the students in the least.

He was harsh as always but it wasn’t like I cared since I was first, again.

Sorry girls.

************** “He could have been gentler about this.

It’s not like we could have known anything about it.” Laura complained while we sat in the cafeteria, well, cafeteria for nobles so it was anything but a cafeteria but you get the picture.

Anyway, she complained about Desmond’s harshness but I couldn’t sympathize with her.

After all, I had gained everything to be gained in that test.

If the others didn’t, and that included my girls, then it was on them.

Not like I knew everything about the test as well.

All I knew was nothing more than what was in the test guidelines.

The test was anything but how it was depicted in the novel so the starting line we shared was the same.

It was their fault that they couldn’t look at the hidden meaning of the test.

They should have.

“When you’re in a war, you have to look at every aspect.

Not just what you’ve been told.” I said to Laura’s complaints.

“But we weren’t in a war,” Sophien argued.

“And what if the same thing happens when you make the same mistake in an actual war?” I asked.

“…” No one replied because they had no answer to that.

“War is unpredictable.

Anything can happen.

If you keep the same mindset, you will fail.

And in a war, failure means death.

There you cannot use the excuse that you had no idea about it.

There you die.” I said.

The girls looked at each other, their faces a little red from embarrassment from being told like that.

But they wouldn’t have to be if they knew about it in the first place.

This world may be just a fragment but death was just as real.

Once dead, there was no going back.

If they couldn’t face that reality, then they were on the wrong path.

“Today we train with extra effort.

Since you all think it was unfair to you, I will make sure you are prepared enough so you cannot be surprised next time.” I said as I stood up and left the girls with terrified expressions.

I made my way to the table where Sasha and Asmara were eating and said to Asmara, “Be at the training room one in an hour.” I didn’t say anything more nor did I give her the opportunity of asking and walked away.

“Excuse me.” While I was going to the training room to train on my own for an hour, I heard someone call me from the back.

I turned to look at a girl, about my age and in a student’s attire.

However, the uniform with the purple sash showed me she was actually a second year.

“The headmaster wishes to see you.” The girl informed.

“Well, I’m pretty sure he saw me all he wanted this morning.

But who can get enough of this pretty face, am I right?” I asked with a beaming smile that made the girl go lost for a few seconds when she shook her head and snapped out of her trance.

Yep.

Still got it.

“Le-Let me guide you.” She said with a little red face due to embarrassment.

I nodded and let her take the way.

When we arrived at the chambers of the headmaster, when I was just about to open the door, I stopped.

Well, that might have to do something with the presence I felt from behind the door.

A presence that was somewhat familiar because it was too fiery to forget.

The Kalkstein matriarch was here.
