233: A glimpse of the past 233: A glimpse of the past Chapter 233 “Hey.

I hope I’m not intruding.” Gabriel said as he entered the office of a man and made his way to the office desk.

The man at the desk looked at Gabriel and said, “What could you be possibly intruding upon?

It’s not like I’m busy with my work or anything.” “Quippy.” Gabriel said and sat down and asked, “How are you doing?” “Same as I was last week when you came to me and asked me to deal with a few cases of yours.

Because that’s the only reason you visit me.” The man said.

“I got the point from your last reply,” Gabriel said.

“So, what do you want?” The man asked.

The features of the man resembled that of a man in his mid to late thirties, yet the actual age of the man was two times that.

“I can’t come to see you anyway?” Gabriel asked as if he was offended.

The man raised his head from the file and looked at Gabriel with an expressionless face.

Under that expression, Gabriel gave in as he replied, “Fine.

I have something I need to know.” “What?” The man once again dived into his paperwork.

“Do you have any idea why Dad called me back?

I was busy with something and I would really like to go back but he wants me to be here for some reason and he isn’t telling me why.” Gabriel explained his reason for coming.

The man looked at Gabriel for a while before he asked, “What were you doing that you were so busy?” “Busy with my granddaughter,” Gabriel replied.

The man’s expression turned skeptical as he remarked, “Seeing as you weren’t married, or in any other kind of relationship with a woman, or a man, I can only assume the internet has advanced quite a bit.” “Funny.” Gabriel replied to the man’s remark before he said, “She’s in a fragment.” “You should have led with that.” The man said and went back to his paperwork.

“I should have.

Just like you shouldn’t have tried to deflect the issue altogether.” Gabriel said.

“If he isn’t telling you, why do you think I’d know?” The man asked.

“Something tells me you know.

There’s nothing you guys don’t know.” Gabriel said.

“We do have private lives, you know.” The man said before he replied to Gabriel’s query, “If he isn’t telling you, so won’t I.” “Why not?” Gabriel asked.

The man remained silent for a while before he said, “I don’t know what he told you, or the others you went to before me told you, but I will tell you this and just this, your brother’s going down a dangerous path.

Reign him in.” “What’s up with Andrew?” Gabriel worriedly asked.

“Ask him.” The man said before he dived back into his work.

As for Gabriel, he could only leave with a worried expression as he made his way to his brother’s house.

************** “How are you doing?” The man asked Gabriel, who was sitting in his room, all quiet and out of focus.

“How should I be doing?” Gabriel asked back with a forced smile.

“Not like that.” The man said as he looked at Gabriel, all quiet and shut out.

There were no traces of the Gabriel he knew.

He was looking at a man who had lost a big part of himself.

“Do you regret what you did?” The man asked.

“If I did, I would have never done that,” Gabriel replied.

“Then why are you sitting here like that?” The man asked.

“I don’t know.

But I do know that I shouldn’t be dancing when my brother’s dead.” Gabriel said.

“Did you bury him?” The man asked.

“There was nothing left to bury,” Gabriel replied.

“That’s a pity.” The man said before he placed his hand on Gabriel’s shoulder and said, “Go to your granddaughter.

Not much time should have passed.

Spend some time with her.” Gabriel nodded and the man left.

Gabriel sighed and stood up after he was alone.

He left his room and made his way to the basement of their mansion.

He stopped in front of a room that had a dilapidated wooden door, but one that wouldn’t open even if he pushed with all his might.

He opened the door with a key and entered.

Inside the room, there were floating glowing orbs.

Inside the orbs were glowing particles of light.

Just like stars in the sky.

Gabriel headed to the end of the room where there were some special orbs with names written beneath them.

One of them read, Tanaeria.

He touched that orb and the next moment, his body disappeared from the room.

***************** A man stood outside of a city, a fallen city to be more precise.

Ashes rose in the sky as he looked at the scene with his white-colored eyes wide open.

He couldn’t understand what was happening.

It wasn’t long before he was here and everything was well.

Everything was at peace.

Everywhere was happiness.

Yet how did everything turn to ashes in just a few short months?

With heavy feet, he took his first step.

And then another.

And another.

And finally, after pressing on rubbles and ashes, he finally arrived at the center of the city.

On the way, he didn’t encounter a single life.

Everyone was dead.

No life was spared.

Everything was turned into ashes.

Even people.

As he arrived at the center of the city, he finally stopped.

His legs gave in and he fell on his knees.

In that place, should have been a giant castle, a castle so big that it touched the clouds yet there was nothing there.

And that was where he encountered it.

Two things actually.

A sword etched in the ground upside down and a bracelet.

The only two things that were still pristine in that burnt-down city.

He had forged them both himself.

The sword was a gift; a treasure he had made with special care.

Silver white in color with intricate patterns on it, it was as magnificent as mighty it looked.

As for the bracelet.

It wasn’t anything special.

It was just beautiful.

Something to show his affection.

But it was also silver-white in color and gave off a royal shine.

Two things he was very familiar with.

His eyes welled up with tears as there were some burnt bones beside the sword and the bracelet.

The bracelet was still around a bone, a wrist.

He picked it up, along with the bone, and finally, the dam of tears broke through.

Along with his cries, the entire city began to shake.

The sky shook.

The ground shook.

The entire world shook.

********************************** Celebrations were ongoing as many of the races gathered to celebrate the day of victory.

The victory of a ten year long war.

But they had turned out to be the victors of that war.

So they obviously celebrated like the winners.

Never before had all races been seen together like that and in harmony.

It was true, only in the face of a common enemy, do people with opposing ideals come together.

Just like that, the idea brought all of the races together.

Humans, elves, orcs, goblins, vampires, werewolves, dwarves, gnomes, people of the sea, and many more.

They all sat together, ate happily, and drank to their fill.

A scene never seen before and possibly never to be seen again.

In a giant castle, a group ran around a giant table.

One person from each of the races sat around the table and ate happily.

“It was all thanks to you.” A human said as he added, “It wouldn’t have been possible without your help.” “What are you saying?

We were also suppressed by those darned angels.

It is good that we all united to rid them of this world.” An elf said.

The vampire on the table, “If not for my mother, I would have long since declared war on the angels.” “It is a pity.

Lady Anabelle’s presence would have made the war a lot easier.” A werewolf said but then added with a smile, “Well, I’m not one to talk.

My own father never had the guts to go against the angels.” “Likewise for my ancestors.” The dwarf spoke.

The orc and many of the races nodded in assent.

“Why so?” The human at the table asked.

“Ahh…

The humans don’t live long so you may not have heard of it.

They say that a being exists in the angels, an archangel.

Maybe that was what our ancestors were afraid of.” The elf at the table said.

“Well, if there was such a thing, I’m sure it is now eradicated with the rest of them.” The human said with a smile before he stood up and held up the glass in his hands as he said, “Here is to victory and freedom.

None of which would have not been possible if not one of us would have agreed to get rid of the angels.” “Her, her.” The others at the table said before they began to drink.

But then, the world began to shake.

“What is this?” Everyone was puzzled because the vibration was getting stronger and stronger with each passing moment, “Is it an earthquake?” The human said but before anyone could reply, a pressure, more terrifying than ever dawned upon everyone.

A pressure they had never felt before, ever.

A pressure that choked on their lives.

Screeeeccchhh….

A voice, a sound entered their ears that terrified them to the core.

A sound they were very well familiar with.

The sound of the angels.

They raised their heads despite being very afraid to do so because the entire sky was alight.

The sky was alight by the shower of meteors.

Not normal meteors though.

Meteors accompanied by bright white fire.

In the middle of all that, a being stood with a sword in its hand.

A person.

Only the person had wings of pure white light and his eyes and hair were also white.

He opened his mouth and bright white flames left his mouth as he mumbled, “Dragon breath.” And then, everything just melted away.
