217: Battle 217: Battle Chapter 217 “That doesn’t sound too good,” I said after the aftereffects of the attack passed away.

It was probably the meteor skill that the Tower of Flame practiced.

It was more like a religious organization, only they didn’t believe in any household’s usual gods but the Sun.

They were like Greeks in that sense.

Anyway, Meteor was a strong spell but I still didn’t hear any sound of a battle or charge which meant the barrier was still holding on.

It was impossible unless it was the barrier of the Guardian rank being but no guardian rank being served the Church.

“External help, huh?

That’s cheating you know.” I told Celandine who looked at me and said, “Whatever gets us through.” Now that’s a ruthless woman right there.

Me likey.

Not that kind of likey though.

I will rip out her heart kind of likey.

“Still, they will get in eventually,” Celandine said before she turned to John and said, “Prepare the array.

As soon as the barrier comes down, we release it when they least expect it.” “Are you sure you should be discussing in my presence?” I asked.

“What are you going to do?

You’re chained.” She said.

I was but not to the floor.

That was how confident they were.

But they didn’t account for one thing.

I was a genius.

“You know that won’t stop me, right?” I asked, confidence overflowing in my voice.

“You’re right.

Put some guards here.” She said before she left along with John who gave me a stink eye and left with her.

Just as they did, two guys with buff bodies entered the cell and stood near the door.

Now as much as I would like to get out of here, I couldn’t pass up the chance to examine something that could grant me an option I wouldn’t get anywhere else.

‘So, are you really constrained?’ I asked Alison.

The power of space trumped every element, dark and holy, or any other kind.

But there were four powers it could not suppress.

The power of the laws, the power to uphold reality.

The power of time which was the direct superior to the element of space.

The power of life and last but not least, the power of death.

And Allison wasn’t just any power of death, like me.

She was death itself.

She was just bound.

‘By my father, I assume?’ […] [How do you think he keeps his human side] [You cannot be a human and be all powerful] [You cannot be all-powerful and keep your humanity] [A sacrifice has to be made in either case] [But your father found a loophole] ‘You.’ I replied.

[Yeah] [Half and half] [He took one half and I took the other] [Since I was already bound to him] [I belonged to him] [And so did my power] ‘He was worried you would usurp him?’ I asked curiously.

If she was bound, there must have been a reason.

Why would he choose to do otherwise?

[If it was that simple] [He was never afraid of me] ‘He loved you.’ I added.

[He just made a choice] ‘Between you and Mom?’ I asked.

[If it was between me and her] [I was confident I could have won] ‘Then who was it?’ I asked.

However, that was the end of it.

No reply came from that topic.

So I had to return to my original topic.

‘Can you get out of this?’ I asked.

[I can] As always, Allison was quite opportunistic.

She could but she hadn’t indicated she was looking forward to making another deal.

I, however, wasn’t in a situation to take a favor from her anymore.

I already owed her three times.

I didn’t want to anymore, and I would get sacked, not by the residents of this world but by my very own support.

I wasn’t that much of an idiot.

Which meant that I would have to get out of here on my own.

The good thing was that I wasn’t chained to the floor so I could make my way to the machine that blocked my power.

However, I doubted my new friends would allow me to do as I please so I guessed I would have to take care of them first.

I stood up, and they tensed.

I chuckled and made my way to the machine when I heard the voice of one of them, “Don’t take another step, devil worshiper.” These guys must really love that word.

I ignored him and kept moving forward.

Shiing!

The sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath.

I still didn’t stop and arrive before the machine that was at least three times larger than me.

Now a machine like this would surely have a panel but no one was idiotic enough to leave that panel visible for the convenience of someone and even if I would be able to find it, I doubted I would be able to access it.

I mean, someone as smart as making something like this would surely insert an administrator login.

Kind of like a computer account.

“Stop!” The cleric once again said as he made his way to me with his sword.

I looked at him with a smile and returned my attention back to the machine.

He got in my range and was about to hit me when I moved aside and grabbed his hand and turned it around, capturing him in a deadlock.

“Ahh!!” He yelled in pain.

I guess since he couldn’t use mana, he couldn’t use his core properly.

Well, anyone would be disoriented if they were to lose the power they had all their life suddenly.

The other one moved as well as he pointed his sword at me and said, “Hold!

Let him go!!!” I wrapped the chain in my arms around the guy, asphyxiating him but making sure he didn’t die, just enough to pass out.

Once he was out cold, I picked up his sword and said, “You can either go get reinforcements, or you can fight me.” He looked at his friend and without thinking, he made the rational choice.

He ran away.

I shook my head and turned to the machine once again.

As expected, there was no panel in sight.

There were three ways to access this machine.

Manually.

I go in like I own this machine, know the passwords and everything.

The second was disrupting the flow of particles that were creating resonance waves of neutralization.

But that would cause the machine to explode and everything in about a 30-mile radius to be afflicted with radiation poisoning.

Then mana or not, I doubt anyone would survive.

Last but not least was the bypass which was out of option since I had nothing to hack into it.

That only left me with the circuits of the machine but if I go in blind, I will be risking the second option.

I first moved to the door and locked it.

The cleric wasn’t back yet but he soon would be and I didn’t want to be disturbed.

Another amazing thing about this place was that they wouldn’t have the superpower of mana so they wouldn’t be able to get through this heavy door unless they brought a battering ram.

And I doubt that’s the last thing they have lying around because it’s as useless to these mana maniacs as a certain spider named Lady to a certain team of superheroes.

Well, let’s get this over with.

Either we would be witnessing a giant mushroom in the sky soon, or this machine would be changing its administrator today.

*********** “What is the status of the barrier?” John asked the clerics in charge of defense.

“We can withstand another ten attacks of the same magnitude.

But no more than that.” The cleric replied.

“Makes sense.

Meteor is a strong spell, even with borrowed the power of the guardian behind us.” Celandine replied.

“We cannot waste it,” John said.

“Exactly,” Celandine replied as she gazed far away in the distance, looking at the army she knew they had no chance against unless the real forces of the church arrived.

The problem was that they wouldn’t be arriving.

The machine in there, the one they considered to have come from gods couldn’t be moved.

Although they couldn’t clear the dungeon, the church somehow ended at this place along with the machine.

They had built the monastery on top of the machine and hid the fact that they owned something like that from the Imperial family.

The drawback of the machine was that no teleportation circle could be constructed in its close vicinity.

Which meant they wouldn’t be able to transfer a large amount of troops to surprise the people who were attacking.

However, even without the reinforcements, the church still had a trump card.

“As soon as the fifth attack lands, increase the radius of the holy weapon,” Celandine said.

Holy weapon as in being the machine that could suppress all powers, in this case, mana.

“That seems to be our only option,” John replied, agreeing with her.
