207: Assimilation: Life (1) 207: Assimilation: Life (1) Chapter 207 “The cardinal communicated,” Bayren said.

The rest of the two, Orion and Zarden looked at him with somber gazes.

The cardinal contacting meant he wanted to create trouble.

And as his job was to keep the imperial family in check, it was obvious what he wanted.

“Who?” Orion asked.

“The fifth crown candidate,” Bayren replied.

“Hmm.

I would assume Harvey,” Zarden remarked.

“A commune between him and the cardinal was picked up yesterday,” Bayren replied.

“It would seem my nephew needs a stern reminder of my love,” Zarden said.

If he hated one thing in the empire, that would be the church and those who ran it.

If they just did their job, then he would have no reason to hate them but they did anything but their jobs.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Bayren asked.

“Whatever you’re thinking, I’m thinking worse,” Zarden replied.

“Let us not jump to conclusions.

What does he have to say?” Orion interjected and asked Bayren.

“Getting defensive for your son?” Zarden commented which Orion chose to ignore and kept his focus on Bayren who replied, “He thinks that the church has assumed that the fast rise in the power of prince Adrian is because of his deal with a devil.” “Ha!” Zarden scoffed at the reason given.

That was the same reason every time given when they wanted to lower the influence of the imperial family and drag their reputation through the mud.

It never yielded any results but it never needed to because the public would be riled for some time and the damage would have been done to the capital and neighboring cities.

No one ever blamed the church because they were acting on the god’s words.

“So, what are they going to do?” Orion asked.

“They are sending a supreme priest to confirm it.

and then they will decide what to do,” Bayren replied.

“When?” Zarden asked.

“Today.

They didn’t specify what time,” Bayren replied.

“Those bastards!” It was a clear violation of the imperial family’s authority.

They didn’t need it, they were showing.

“Calm down,” Orion said before he added, “I’m the irrational one.” “Do you think I care?” Zarden asked.

“You will have to.

They carry the goddess’s name after all,” Orion once again placated his brother.

Zarden remained quiet but not for long before he said, “I will actively support the boy.” That was what Adrian wanted.

It was clear as day to him.

He predicted this and asked Zarden for it.

If this wasn’t a clear indication of the boy’s worth, then he didn’t know what was.

To be able to predict things this far, was an intellect even he didn’t possess.

Orion and Bayren couldn’t make anything out of Zarden’s statement and asked, “Why?” “Because I owe him,” Zarden replied before willing his chair to move out of the garden they were all at.

“What does Rafael have to say about it?” Orion asked.

“What do you think?” Bayren asked in turn.

“Obvious.

All things considered, he is right,” Orion said.

It was obvious what Rafael would choose.

He would choose what his granddaughter would.

With two divine-rank beings on his side, Adrian carried a weight no one else did.

“This will be troublesome,” Orion said as he rubbed his head because of how severe the issue was.

Just then, a silver knight came running to them and said, “Greetings, esteemed holy emperor, the conqueror of–” but the knight was interrupted by Bayren who said, “What is it?” “Why stop him?

Go ahead and sing more praises of me,” Orion said to the young knight.

“What is it?” Bayren asked once again.

“The, the envoy of the church has arrived,” The knight reported.

“I’m the emperor here,” Orion complained which Zarden ignored and asked the knight, “Who is welcoming them?” “Prince Harvey,” There was no respect for that title from the knight.

“Of course he is,” Bayren replied before he asked again, “and where are they headed?” “To the fifth imperial prince’s abode,” The knight replied once again.

“Of course, they are,” Orion was the one to reply this time.

“And where is the fifth imperial prince?” Bayren asked.

“In the training hall number three,” The knight replied.

“Very well.

Fortify that area.

Don’t let them in until he comes out,” Bayren instructed.

“That…” The knight wanted to say something but he hesitated.

“What is it?” Orion asked.

“He, uh, the fifth imperial prince has issued an evacuation order from the entire wing.

He says that if we came in the vicinity, it would be on us,” The knight replied.

“What does that mean?” Orion asked.

However, before his question could be answered, it was answered by a loud boom from within the place where a pillar of light could now be seen, erected, and emitting power that none of them could imagine.

“What the…” Orion, who had only heard of the phenomenon at the Bellator, was now seeing it with his own eyes and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

******* “It is so good you could come, supreme priest, John,” Harvey greeted the man in white robes with a smile and a respectable title and demeanor.

“I had to.

We need to confirm if the members of the holy family have succumbed to the temptation of the devil.

It is you who should be commended for not even discriminating against this issue and upholding justice, even against your own son,” John replied, flattering Harvey in return.

He knew it was all bullsh*t and that Adrian wasn’t Harvey’s son.

And also the fact that there was no justice being exerted here.

But, Harvey could very well be the next emperor.

If John didn’t want to remain just one of the hundreds of supreme priests, Harvey’s support would be great in that case.

“Haha.

You flatter me.

I only wish to exercise the goddess’s justice,” Harvey replied with a smile.

They both were aware of each other’s inner thoughts but no one said anything because there was no need to.

It was, after all, a beneficial relationship.

They just needed to take advantage of each other and everything would run smoothly.

A lot more smoothly if they had a common enemy and they did at the moment.

As they were about to reach the third wing where the training halls were, they saw a full-scale evacuation in progress.

“What is happening?” Harvey asked the silver knight standing outside.

Harvey hadn’t heard anything about it and he was the crown prince of the empire.

If he didn’t, then it was something his informants had either kept from him or it was strictly regulated by the silver knights, out of his jurisdiction.

The silver knight, whom Harvey had addressed didn’t reply.

He instead looked at his companion who shook his head.

The silver knight turned to Harvey and said, “Crown Prince Harvey, you are to leave this area.

This is currently under the jurisdiction of the silver knights.” “What nonsense is this?

Do you know who I am?” Harvey spoke with anger flooding his words.

It was blatant disrespect and at that in front of his guests, his image was brought down a lot.

“I know.

You are to leave, otherwise, you will be made to,” The silver knight replied.

“You know what you just said has cost you your head,” Harvey spoke as he brandished his sword.

Seeing that, the knight remained calm, a show that he wasn’t fazed by that display, and that only served to make Harvey angrier.

He took a step forward before the silver knight also took out his sword.

Not just him, his companions also took their swords out and pointed them at Harvey and his group.

“Are you crazy?

Do you want to make enemies with the church?!” John yelled, thinking the name of the church would deter the knights.

“Put your swords down,” They heard a voice form behind them.

They all turned to see the second prince, Lucius, standing along with a general rank silver knight.

“Hah!” John said as he turned to the silver knight and said, “You heard him.

And don’t think I will forget your face.” Harvey also looked triumphant but the silver knight didn’t lower his sword nor did the others.

“I wasn’t talking to them, brother.

Put your sword down,” Lucius said, while the silver general knight standing next to him also brandished his sword and the mana of an SS rank blessed swept the surroundings, “Otherwise, I don’t know how long I will be able to hold him.” The general ranked silver knight looked raring to go.

“You will answer this.

This is the imperial family covering up the crimes of the one who has given to the devil,” John said.

“Sure,” Harvey said before he said to the general knight, “Go ahead.” “Wait!” Harvey said before the general knight could act, “We’re going.” “Good,” Lucius said.

They were all about to leave before John gave a stink eye to Lucius before he also turned to leave but then, everyone stopped and the next moment, everyone was struck by a shockwave that threw almost everyone to the floor.

Harvey, Lucius, the general knight, John, and everyone forgot about what had happened because they could see a pillar of light erected in the sky, emitting massive divine energy.

“The goddess!” John exclaimed while the rest were also in awe, not of the divine power, but because of how terrifying it was.
