The Archangel of Death - Chapter 172
172: Sophien (2) 172: Sophien (2) Chapter 172 As I walked down the stairs of the Vermilion mansion, making my way to the main door of the head of the family, I tried, really, really hard to calm myself.
[I knew it] ‘I held back, didn’t I?’ I replied to Allison with clear annoyance but she kept taunting me the entire way.
Sophien had vaguely told me the location of Cornelius’s room and I got there without much problem following the signs she portrayed.
Finally, as I arrived, I greeted the guards who were looking at me strangely because I wasn’t supposed to be there anyway.
Even on the way, some servants were confused about whether I was invited or not.
“Let the patriarch know that Adrian von Dues Lux is here to greet him,” I instructed both of the guards.
It was disrespectful of me to show up like that and demand an audience but the guards couldn’t tell me off precisely because of who I was.
One of them went in and came out after a second followed by a few angry people.
I guessed they were angry because Cornelius decided to prioritize me.
I entered as soon as the last person left.
I saw Cornelius sitting behind the table with his fingers crossed in front of him.
He looked at me with slight dissatisfaction but I was more dissatisfied with him.
“That wasn’t a good move.” He made sure to portray his intention to which I replied, “I don’t care.” I was very disrespectful but it was understandable, I was angry.
“I gave you a chance to end things with the Kalkstein family.
You didn’t.
Now I will do it my way and the central government will also suffer because of that.” Saying my part, I turned around to leave.
“Wait.” He called from behind me and considering I needed to be on good terms with him, I decided to give him a chance and listen.
I turned around and waited for him to speak.
“Sit down.
There is an issue.” Once again, I decided to hear him out but I didn’t sit.
I remained in my place to show my stance.
We were equals, he knew that which was why he didn’t use the card that he was stronger than me.
“Haa..” He sighed seeing me act stubborn and said, “I didn’t expect you to be so hotheaded when I came to women.” His remark earned no reply from me and I kept staring at him.
He sighed once again and said, “A foolish son is indeed a big misfortune.” I knew what he meant but I didn’t care.
Sure, a father had every right to make the decision for his daughter but when that father made the wrong decisions, it was the job of his father to correct his mistakes.
Cornelius had forgotten about Sophien’s plight in the wake of his business.
“Want me to sympathize with you?
You know you are also in the wrong.” I made sure to remind him of his negligence as well.
“Yes, yes I am.” He replied, admitting his mistakes.
He seemed tired but that still earned no sympathy from me.
All I cared about was Sophien in the Vermillion household.
If this doesn’t work out, I will have to go with the next and much more easier solution.
Raze the central government to the ground.
“I will help you.” He raised his head and said meeting my eyes.
“But in return, you must promise to look past the mistakes of the Vermillion family after me.” He was asking for mercy when it came to his son.
Of course, the answer was simple.
“I decline.
But it isn’t up to me, now is it?” It wasn’t up to me.
I wasn’t the one he had used his entire life like a sugar doll and attracted all the honey-making bees.
If Sophien forgave her father, I would too.
If she didn’t, I wouldn’t either.
“Haa… I see.” Cornelius replied while he sighed once again.
He was sighing a lot.
I wonder why though?
He almost seemed as if he was certain of his demise now.
“When he was born, I was so happy.
For the first time in my life, I forgot about my lifelong dream and focused on him.
But when his mother passed away, I decided to toughen him up.
You know, to fend off the barbarians at the gate.” Cornelius recounted a story that I wasn’t interested in.
I could tell how it would end, that he ended up doing too much.
Making his son conscious of the nation so much that he started to disregard everything and anything, even his own blood for the sake of the nation.
It was all the more common story and it portrayed his intentions.
It was the story of a father who loved his son and worried about what would happen to him after him.
But they were all excuses.
Although I haven’t been a father, I have been like a father to many.
Children need love and discipline, but sometimes, it takes a lot more than just looking ahead.
Sometimes, you also have to look at the child you are raising beside you.
[Sounds like you have made the same mistake] ‘I don’t want to talk about it.’ Cornelius’s story ended and it was more or less the same as I had thought.
I was about to say something when a vuvuzela, a kind of horn was heard in the distance.
It was the indication of someone entering the manor walls.
The guests seemed to have arrived on foot unlike me who used the Bellator teleporter to get to the spatial city of Central Government.
I turned to look at Cornelius who simply shook his head, asking me not to be impulsive.
I usually wouldn’t have been, but remembering the things that happened to Sophien in the novel contributed 95% to my anger.
I turned around and left his office, without much care about anything.
I made my way to the front of the mansion where the Vermilion family was ready to greet the Kalkstein family.
Arles Vermillion, along with his full family of three wives, four sons, and two daughters, betting some of them weren’t even his, and with Sophien not present stood to welcome the guests.
When he saw me, his eyes went saucers but before he could stop me, a wave of mana along with a roar spread throughout the place.
The mana of an SS rank was something that even the coming party couldn’t ignore.
Everyone got to arms and even the Kalkstein carriages stopped.
The knights of the Kalkstein family surrounded the most luxurious-looking carriage and one of the backbones of the family, the knights of the Kalkstein family, also the uncle of Lambert Kalkstein took the lead at the forefront with a silver sword brandished.
“Keeaahhh!!!” Another tremendous roar shook all the surroundings.
I knew who it was but I decided to ignore that and made my way to the Kalkstein family without any worry.
As I stood in front of the prepared knights, I called out loudly, “Lambert Kalkstein.
Come out of the carriage.
I have a few words for you.” My words were blatant and no matter how high my status was, the person I was addressing also belonged to the noble lineage.
He had all the right to be offended and so did his knights when his uncle, Serian stood forward and said, “How dare you?!” I guessed he didn’t know who I was so he was pointing his sword at me.
“You may want to put that away.” I said to which he replied, “Or what?” “Or him.” I simply replied as a giant wyvern landed with a thump behind me.
The shockwave of his landing shook the entire area and not only that, his mana was so overwhelming that even I could sense it even though I had no mana.
“Krrr…” Sairal growled at Serian who didn’t step back in the face of an overwhelming enemy but he was a lot more cautious of me now.
“Who is it?” Lambert Kalkstein stepped out of the carriage and made his way to the forefront, behind Serian though because it was too overbearing for him to stand in front of Sairal’s overwhelming power.
“It doesn’t matter who I am.
All I want you to do is turn around and leave.” I stated my demand which was exactly what it was, a demand.
“What?
What nonsense is this?!
Do you even know who I am?!” Lambert yelled at me.
“Krr…” Sairal growled a bit which caused all the knights to back away a little, including Lambert.
“Yes, I agree.” I replied, to Sairal, “He does indeed look like an idiot and now he has proven to be so too.” Then I pointed at Sairal and said to Lambert, “He says, ‘Didn’t you hear me call you out by your name?'” My reply left the party opposite to me speechless.
After a few moments, after glancing at the Vermillion family members, he said, “Is the Vermillion family on this?” I laughed.
He really wasn’t the brightest tool in the shed.
