The Archangel of Death - Chapter 151
151: Alicia vs Layla 151: Alicia vs Layla Back to 2000 words ===== Chapter 151 “That was great, darling.” I smiled as I said to Laura who came back to the contestant area.
She smiled and said, “I hope you’re happy.” “Does that mean you’re no longer angry with me?” I asked with an expectant smile only to be reciprocated by an even sweeter smile as she said, “Almost.” I knew what ‘almost’ meant and I braced every part of my body for the oncoming strike.
Laura punched me straight in the face and knocked my teeth out.
One of my molars was broken.
I didn’t use any skills to protect myself because if she didn’t see blood, she wouldn’t forgive me.
“Now I’m no longer angry.” She said.
I sighed in relief and stood straight, suppressing the pain in my jaw and spitting the blood out, I said, “That’s great to hear, darling.” “Of course.” She said with a smile and that smile meant to me that she wasn’t done.
She moved forward and said, “Almost done.” I was experienced enough to know where the next strike was going and even I couldn’t help but painfully scrunch my face when she kneed me right in my crown jewels.
I clutched them in pain and made the face of the century which I was sure Allison would have captured.
[Yes I did] ‘Damn it.’ “You shouldn’t hit me here, darling.
Our future depends on it.” I said as I straightened when the pain lessened.
She smiled and replied, “Then you should use protective measures because there are two more angry girls with you.” She said and glanced around.
I did so too and noticed Rose and Alicia looking at me with hunger in their eyes.
Putting aside the fact that I found their looks hot, it was also terrifying, after all, there was no option of dodge.
I could only grit it and take it.
“And now, moving to the next match, the next contestants are Layla Evergreen and Alicia Mon Grante.
Please come up to the stage for the match to begin.” As their names were called, Layla and Alicia both stood up and left the contestant area from the left and right, taking a different path that led to the entrance to the stage from opposite sides.
“I would ask you to wish me luck but I see the danger I would put you in then,” Layla commented as she passed me.
I couldn’t help but agree because Rose sitting next to me looked like she was about to jump at me.
And kill me.
Girls, scary.
===== Alicia and Layla made their way to the stage from the opposite sides.
They came before each other in a few seconds and Layla greeted her, “Greetings.
Long time no see.” “It has been a long time,” Alicia replied before she stepped back a little.
She then asked, “I heard about your engagement.
I hope you’re happy.” “I am.
He may be a muscle head but he is caring.” Layla replied after she glanced at Zefton in the arena.
“I see.” Alicia simply replied.
She was happy because Adrian had a certain tendency to attract women.
Too easily at that.
Given that Layla was a beauty and that she had a good relationship with Adrian, Alicia was worried that she would get another rival.
Fortunately, she didn’t and the moment she heard about Layla’s engagement, she was happy and dropped all animosities regarding Layla.
She wasn’t going to kill her using today’s match.
“Let the match begin.” As soon as the referee announced the start of the match, both of the girls backed away since both of them were mage class and both of them were long-range fighters.
{Ice lance} Layla used one of her spells and several poles made of ice formed and they were then shot at Alicia.
{Divine protection} A barrier made of white color came to be in front of Alicia.
It wasn’t quite transparent like Adrian’s ‘Celestial guard’ and it had inscriptions on it moving across the whole shield.
The makeshift lances of ice were blocked by the shield and Alicia began her counterattack.
{Judgment} Similar to Alicia, tridents made of light with a gold ethereal glow came to form and shot at Layla at the double speed as her ‘Ice Lance’ {Ice wall} A wall came to form in front of Layla that blocked the tridents of light easily.
The attack damage of Alicia’s skill was significantly weaker compared to Layla’s but it was more in quantity.
Alicia didn’t hold up on that point, she continued her attack with another attack following up.
{Holy Rain} Similar to the earlier tridents, once again tridents came to form but instead of in front of Alicia, they came to form up in the sky and they were in four times more quantity than her earlier skill.
The rain of tridents fell on Layla who used her skill again to protect herself but her skill couldn’t hold on for long.
By almost half of the tridents, her ice wall had cracked and shattered.
What was revealed from underneath was a figure draped in ice.
It was almost six feet tall and it looked more like armor, only it was made of ice instead of metal.
{Frost deity} A skill that covered her in ice to increase her strength or at least that’s what everyone thought before Layla took a step forward, and in the blink of an eye, she was halfway across the arena, very close to Alicia before a shield popped up in front of Alicia just in time for the impact to lessen from Layla’s momentum.
Unfortunately, not all the damage was blocked Layla was still carrying enough of the momentum so Alicia had to move out of the way.
She began to circle the arena but it wasn’t enough, Layla once again shot at her to attack her but from the looks of it, Layla could only move in a straight line for now so the second attack didn’t connect as well.
However, Alicia knew she would be lucky the third time so she had no other choice but to pull out something from the pouch on her waist while she was running.
It was the same pouch that Adrian had given them during the second test.
It was very convenient for them to use this since they could carry many weapons with them.
Alicia pulled out her gauntlets from the pouch and just in time made another shield in front of her because Layla once again crashed into it, breaking it and resuming her momentum before it was stopped by Alicia with her gauntlet-covered fist.
Out in the arena, the eyes of the people fell on the mysterious artifact on Alicia’s waist.
A magical artifact that could store things making it a spatial artifact.
Only space mages could make spatial spaces to store their belongings yet Alicia possessed an artifact that could do so as well.
Many suspected that it was given to her by her grandfather, a space attributed blessed but Sophien in the arena knew otherwise.
She had seen the same pouch on Rose and Laura’s waist as well.
Alicia’s grandfather had no reason to give them one as well.
So the only other thing these three girls had in common was a womanizer.
‘Looks like he has earned himself a kiss.’ She made sure to get a similar artifact from her no matter what the cost or even if she had to resort to threats like revealing to the girls their relationship.
In the VIP stands, Ronald turned to glance at another king, Hershey, who spoke, “What do you think?” Ronald replied, “For now, nothing.
We need that artifact, yes, but we have nothing to give.
Let’s just wait.” Hershey nodded and said, “It is rumored that the boy has the same ability only he doesn’t use a pouch or an artifact or whatever it is.” “We can’t take that chance.
He has already dealt great damage to us.
Anything else and we will be losing a lot more than we would lose to the empire so let’s just sit back for now.
We don’t even know if it is enough to make a move.” Ronald quelled his comrade who seemed ready to jump down the stage and take that pouch from Alicia.
“Fine, for now, I will do what you say,” Hershey replied and turned his attention back to the match.
Back to the fight, just as Alicia stopped Layla’s fist with her fist, she threw one of her won with her right fist which was blocked by Layla the same way.
Alicia retracted her left fist and hit once again but this a little differently.
She delivered a technique she hadn’t seen before.
A jab that was taught to her by Adrian.
Layla stopped this one too but because it was a little unpredictable, she couldn’t block it properly, leaving a bit too big opening which Alicia didn’t fail to utilize by striking with her other fist empowered by mana.
The attack connected with Layla’s chest, pushing her back considerably.
Layla was strong but she lacked the technique to fight in close range.
She had expected Alicia to be inflicted with the same problem but she was amazingly holding herself in close combat.
Layla had no choice but to back away a little and attack again with both long and close-range attacks.
{Ice lance} Just as the ice lances were thrown at Alicia to be blocked by her shield.
Layla also jumped at her and by the time all the lances were blocked, she was already upon Alicia.
Alicia knew she wouldn’t be able to stop this attack well but she tried her best.
Three consecutive attacks were delivered by Layla.
Although Alicia’s long-range attacks were fast, her speed itself wasn’t that much compared to the current armored Layla so after the first two strikes, she was hit on her left forearm and an audible crack sound rang out.
Alicia winced in pain and jumped back.
She was at a disadvantage and she didn’t want to give Layla any more advantage over the situation.
Layla followed after her but she could only move in a straight line so Alicia managed to dodge her barely but her efficiency had dropped by a lot.
{Gaia’s blessing} Alicia cast a heal spell on herself and her arm healed a little but it was nowhere compared to Adrian’s and for the sake of being fair, she had been forbidden to use divinity in the tournament.
All of the apostles were so Alicia’s usual healing was not even at half of its effect.
Layla didn’t allow her time to rest either because she herself was running out of time.
Her mana was running out and once it was gone, she wouldn’t be able to use any of her skills and unlike Alicia, she wasn’t proficient in close combat as well.
{Frozen} She used another skill and the stage began to freeze.
From underneath her feet, the frost spread out and encased the whole stage and even though Alicia used another shield to prevent being bound, she was caught up in it.
Seeing no other choice, she could go with the attack option.
{Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} {Holy Rain} Ten times consecutive spells of holy rain were cast by Alicia and the sky was fully covered in the tridents.
One would wonder how a C rank had such vast amounts of mana.
She had more mana than a B rank at this point given the volume of her attack spell.
Layla saw how bad it was and she jumped at Alicia but halfway through, Alicia pointed at Layla and unlike before, the tridents of light didn’t just fall but followed her hand’s directions, came down, and made a beeline to Layla from Alicia’s direction.
Hundreds of tridents fell on Layla who kept pushing through and by the time she was upon Alicia, she was badly injured and bloodied but she had it in her for just one shot.
{Frost explosion} From her hand, a snowflake emerged that exploded in all directions, throwing Layla and Alicia both in opposite directions.
{Ice wall} Just in time, Layla conjured up a wall behind her that stopped her momentum, keeping her safe from falling off the stage.
Alicia on the other hand wasn’t so lucky and she went out of bounds.
[Sacred Blessing] [High heal] Only there was someone to catch her and heal her.
Adrian smiled at her as he let go of her and said, “That was a good fight.” He then made his way onto the stage while the referee announced the result.
He kneeled in front of the gasping Layla and said while he cast ‘high heal’ on her, “Let’s hope we meet in the finals.” “Sure.” She replied as her pain lessened considerably and her injuries were all healed.
