The Archangel of Death - Chapter 130
130: Elven envoy 130: Elven envoy Chapter 130 “Welcome!
Welcome to my humble abode.” I personally welcomed the elven delegates from the teleportation room.
They were a little taken aback by my enthusiastic welcome.
“It is a pleasure to be here.” The man with pointy ears, the one who seemed to be leading the elves replied.
However, underneath his warm smile, I could pick up hints of disgust.
“Is that so?
Strange.
Must have been my imagination then.” I made sure to point it out in vague words.
The four elves who came were none other than the elven queen’s younger brother ‘Morosal’, two guards who seemed quite strong, and last but not least, a woman who I wasn’t expecting to be here.
The Saint of elves, the world tree’s overseer, ‘Natasha’.
Unlike the light and dark saints, elves have their own traditions.
The world tree that elves practically worship is said to be sentient and someone needs to contact the tree to relay orders, instructions, and suggestions.
The saint of elves does this job.
I wasn’t really expecting her to be here since she was an important figure and even though on the surface, the elves and humans had friendly relations, deep down, everyone knew it was bullsh*t.
Sending the saint here could prove to be very dangerous if humans became greedy for her.
I mean, her beauty aside, her connection to the world tree was too valuable for humans to wage wars on the elves.
It had been done twice before though that’s too old of a history.
Well anyway, I greeted the lovely blonde-haired well-endowed woman even by my standards, with the beauty of a full moon on a serene night.
“I wasn’t expecting the saint of the world tree to be here herself.
Welcome.” I curtsied on how to meet a lady but I didn’t do it the old way, kissing her hand and all.
I kept my distance.
Although I was confident my own Charisma was high enough, the woman before me was still a borderline Divine ranked whose main focus was on the charm stat.
With almost three times more charm than me, I didn’t want anything unforeseen to happen.
[She didn’t miss this little detail] Of course, she didn’t.
When everyone around me was just spellbound by her, even the head butler, the fact that I could still control myself was a feat.
[This could be dangerous] ‘Which is why I have called for backup.’ They had a borderline divine rank.
I had a full-fledged divine rank.
The teleporter whirred again and two individuals came out of it.
“Welcome, grandfather-in-law.” I greeted the first elder with a beaming smile and the most appropriate title out there.
[Dumb way to die] Yeah, he didn’t look so good.
I ignored the lines on his forehead and greeted the next person, “Welcome, uncle.” The second prince of the Cortum empire, Lucius von Deus Lux, with whom I had no interaction so far.
He stared at me blankly, without any emotion in his eyes or face as he replied, “Nephew.” Keeping it brief and simple, huh?
Works for me.
“What brings you two here?” I feigned ignorance as I asked, almost as if surprised by their arrival.
The elves didn’t look so pleased, Natasha had a frown on her face while Morosal seemed to be exerting great effort to keep his smile on his face.
“We had business with you regarding something, but I didn’t know you had guests.” The first elder replied, suppressing his anger to some extent.
“I see.” I replied as if it made sense, “But what do I do now?
They had an appointment first.” I replied in the favor of the elves.
“Of course, they can go ahead first.
We don’t mind waiting.” The first elder replied and entered the room, crossing the elves without any form of greeting.
Oh yeah, might be a good time to mention that the first elder doesn’t have a good history with the elves.
He has a terrible history with the elves.
[Hence why you called him] ‘Exactly.
What’s a meeting without some drama?’ [You’re a lunatic] ‘That I am and not ashamed to be one.’ ===== “So, shall we begin with the agenda that brought you here or would you like to eat something first?” I asked as we were all seated in the living room.
I was on one side of the table while Natasha and Morosal sat on the opposite side across the table.
Their guards stood behind them while my guards, aka, Lucius and grandfather-in-law were sitting in the background, drinking tea.
Thanks to that, the atmosphere wasn’t peaceful at all.
Given that after every few seconds, a loud slurp from the first elder would be heard, as occasional coughs, and loud complaints about making them wait.
‘Seriously, he’s overselling it.’ [I think he just hates them though] Maybe.
Whatever.
“We would have to say no to that offer.
As you understand that we(cough)… um… we have been(slurp)….
Waiting… (COUGH!!!
COUGH!!!
COUGH!!!)…” Natasha began to say but was repeatedly interrupted by the first elder made her face gradually red from anger but she held it in.
Even I wanted to tell him off at this point but I was actually enjoying the reactions from the elves.
Especially Morosal holding it in like he was trying to dump one out during severe constipation.
‘Please tell me you took a picture of that.’ [I did] “I guess we should move straight to the subject then,” I said, turning to the first elder and shaking my head a bit.
He harrumphed but kept quiet about it.
“Yes, we should,” Natasha replied with a little red face, remnants of anger still flickering in her voice and eyes.
“Then we should get straight to the issue.
Why did you wish to meet me?” I straightforwardly asked even though I knew of their motive.
While saying that, my gaze fell on the amulet on Natasha’s neck.
A golden chain to match her hair and a big ruby in the middle.
[I guess someone’s watching] ‘I know who’s watching.’ “We have come to know that you recently cleared an elven ancestral artifact that was given to the Bellator by our ancestors as a peace offering,” Natasha explained the history a bit frost.
“Yes, I am aware of doing that.
I was there.” I replied with a smile.
“Yes.
The artifact could only be cleared if you find a certain item, two of them.
We, the elves would like to negotiate over the authority of those items with you since they represent our ancestors.” Natasha explained her purpose.
[Some fancy words] True.
Not only was she keeping the information vague, but she was also falsifying their intent.
They don’t give a sh*t that it’s an ancestral item.
They killed those ancestors themselves for colluding with humans.
The only reason she wanted them was because the queen was dying.
And not to mention Allison’s remark at how she subtly hinted that the item belonged to them.
“I see.
But what kind of item was it?” I asked, feigning ignorance but my true motive was to see if they would bite and reveal the information or not.
“It’s kind of an item that has been circulating in the Bellator and the central government recently, potions.” She replied.
“Wow.
I wasn’t aware the origin of the potions was the elves.
Do you still make them?” I asked, acting surprised and impressed.
The curiosity at the end was nothing more than a drama.
“Unfortunately that knowledge has been lost for centuries so no, we do not.” She replied.
“No wonder since you killed all of them yourself,” I mumbled in a mosquito-like voice but I was sure both of them heard it, given their long ears and their current rank and also the slight flinch of their eyebrows.
I wanted them to know that I knew of this stupidity of theirs.
When they killed those elders, they coveted the knowledge of potions only to find out that they never left any records except in their brains.
They lost a war with the demons because of that stupid move.
Anyway, I continued normally as if I was sure they didn’t hear me mumble, “I get all that but I still don’t know why is should give it to you.
I was the one who cleared that artifact.” I raised my point while also pulling two vials out of my inventory.
They were the same ones they needed.
Natasha’s eyes sparkled as she replied, “Do not worry.
We are willing to greatly compensate you for this.
Not to mention, it has no use for you.” “I know it has no use for me.
It only works on elves.
I mean, if it worked on humans, I would have auctioned it off a long time ago.
I would be swimming in money.
I mean, who doesn’t want their life span to be increased by a century.” I nonchalantly said but when I got to the last part, the atmosphere suddenly became tense.
Natasha and Morosal froze while the head elder stopped his grumbling and all his attention was on us.
“So you know what it does,” Natasha said after a while of silence.
“Of course I do.
It would be stupid to assume that I can’t read.
And I can’t help but laugh at your attempt to deceive me of it.” I said with a smile.
[Penny drop] ‘Penny fu*king dropped.’ All pretenses dropped.
The first elder and the prince were no longer acting.
Morosal was no longer smiling and the warm air around Natasha turned to cold.
As for me, well, I was still the dominant party so my smile was still there.
After all, I was true from the beginning.
“What do you want?” Natasha asked coldly.
“Adrian.” While at the same time, the first elder called me.
“It’s okay.” I said to reassure him before I turned to Natasha and said, “Quite cold of you Natasha.
Where’s that warmth of yours gone?” I commented with a smile, bluntly picking on her two faces.
“Cut to the point.
What do you want?” She sternly spoke while keeping her cold expression the same.
“What do you have to offer?” I simply asked.
“Fifty million gold, five S rank mana crystals, ten S rank skills, and ten S rank magical artifacts,” Natasha stated her offer in one breath that would make the kingdoms go mad with happiness.
Even for the empire that offer was good enough.
But for others that was, for me, not even close.
“No.” I simply replied, giving no explanation to my answer.
And she didn’t ask me a stupid question like ‘Why?’ either, but remained quiet.
I guess it was time for the idiot to speak up.
“Then you leave us no choice but to challenge this matter to the leaders of humanity.
After all, what you possess is Elven property.
If you do not hand it over to us, we will be considering the nullification of the peace treaty with that.” Morosal threatened which didn’t sound like a threat at all.
I mean sure, it would be devastating for the humans if the elves broke the peace treaty but come on, there were only two years left on that treaty and the human leaders knew that the elves didn’t have any intention to renew the treaty so far.
Not to mention that I was already aware of their secret alliance with the demons.
Not to mention, one of the elven princesses, Morosal’s elder daughter had a relationship with the demon prince I fought back in the artifact during the second test.
In short, it was nothing but an empty threat.
They knew that if they addressed this issue, the humans could easily demand an extension on the treaty.
They would have no option then.
Either keep their alliance with the other races and let their queen die or isolate themselves from the other races, destroying all of their plans and letting their queen live a few more centuries while also bearing the mark of a traitor from the other races.
But a threat was still a threat even though empty.
And I don’t like to be threatened.
Especially not when I was the one holding all the cards.
“You know, Morosal,” I said while picking up one of the vials and I continued once his attention was on me, “You’re right.
This truly belongs to you.
You’re smart with that approach.” I smiled as a triumphant smile began to appear on his face as well.
Not Natasha though.
I could tell that underneath that cold exterior, she was having an ominous feeling.
And oh boy was she right.
“And that’s why, you can also be the one to tell the queen why she lost an opportunity to live a century more.” I simply said and crushed the vial in my hand.
