All of them begged even through the heart-wrenching pain but Adrian only smiled as he received enormous coins and a lot of EXP.
It was a pity he didn’t receive any EXP from the C ranks but that was okay since they compensated him with coins.
Now that that was done, Adrian finally turned to the matter at hand.
From killing the Lich, he obtained nothing.
Nothing at all since he had sucked it dry.
But there was something that was still left.
A crystal ball of about a basketball size.
The ball had purple smoke inside in which, occasionally, streaks of white beads could be seen.
Adrian couldn’t count the beads as there were a lot of them.
[Undead soul capturer] [Rank: Unknown] [Description: A magical artifact that holds souls of the dead that die in a certain area.
The souls then leave behind pure soul energy, their consciousness wiping out from existence.
The dead then become undead after a certain period of time as their soul cleanses.] “So that’s how the undeads were coming into existence,” Adrian commented as he touched the ball.
It was smooth to the touch and there was no restriction cast on it so Adrian could simply pick it up.
He tried to store it in inventory but a message appeared in his view.
[Item is currently alive] [Item cannot be stored] The rule of the system inventory was that no living thing could be stored in the inventory.
The item before Adrian held nothing but life as it was literally a collection of souls.
Adrian stepped back and purchased something from his system shop.
A box appeared in his hand shortly which he used to engulf the ball.
After it was wrapped around the ball, Adrian left it there and began to look through the room.
He found some gold, some jewels, some artifacts that he couldn’t use, some skill books, and a few personal journals on death and dark magic.
There were a few on curse magic as well.
Adrian took about a day and stored everything useful in the inventory and after picking up the ball, he left the dungeon.
On the way he encountered the dead bodies of the one either he had killed or the undeads had killed.
He came out of the dungeon to find Max, along with a few silver knights waiting for him.
It had been almost two days when he entered the dungeon so it was a wonder they had been waiting for him for so long.
“You have returned, my liege,” Max said as he bowed a little.
Adrian nodded and said, “Return to the city.
Prepare the reports regarding the repairs.
I will follow you shortly.” “What would you be doing, my liege?” Max asked, seeing that Adrian was asking them to return alone.
“I am going to deal with the land problem,” Adrian said, glancing down at the darkened land.
Now that the crystal was no longer permeating death energy harvested from souls, there should be no problem dealing with this energy.
It should disappear in a few years on its own but Adrian didn’t have a few years.
He needed to have it done by tonight.
Max nodded and left after a response along with the rest of the knights.
After about an hour of their departure, Adrian stood up, crackled his fingers, and put his hands on the ground.
he was currently in the middle of the cursed land.
He began to absorb the death energy in the ground.
It was a lot and it took him almost a day to take care of it.
by the time he was done, his fourth death strand had increased by about ten percent.
It wasn’t a lot compared to what he obtained from the Lich or the undeads but the death energy in the land was highly diluted with corrupted energy so he absorbed the purified energy and dissipated the rest into the atmosphere.
The mana would take care of that now that death was no longer mixed into it.
Done with everything here, Adrian left for the city.
The dungeon was now useless and with no power source, would collapse on itself after a few days.
===== After a few days, the city was now starting to look somewhat decent.
With all the slaves in my hands at a very cheap price, the repairs were coming along very nicely.
The land problem was dealt with and soon, many caravans carrying resources would arrive in this city from a very lovely green-eyed lady and the very dear headmaster.
Of course, I wasn’t going to sell them the land but rent it to them for some pocket money.
The problem of the population still remained but I was sure it would soon be taken care of with the current unrest in the Saranhoff city.
“Thanks for your help with the Saranhoff city.” I conveyed my gratitude to Sophien as I checked the reports about the repairs.
“I should be the one thanking you.
Because of you, we managed to uproot a rotten piece of sh*t before it became even more rotten.” Sophien didn’t hold back her displeasure over Darren once she became aware of his crimes.
Her disgusted expression was all I needed to know that she was happy with whatever I had done.
“Thanks to that, we were able to take care of the dungeon and restore the lands.
Which brings me to my next problem.” I said and once she was attentive, I continued, “The agricultural plans that I have shared with you, I need them in production by tomorrow.
Can it be done?” “Yes, it can be done however, once again, it would take a massive fortune,” Sophien said as she made some calculations inside her head.
I had already made the calculation and I had sufficient funds.
The problem was manpower and that was what I needed Sophien to arrange for me.
“As long as you have sufficient funds to use, I can arrange manpower for you by tomorrow,” Sophien said exactly what was on my mind.
I smiled and replied, “I have enough money.
Not to mention my loot from the dungeon this time was substantial.
I also obtained quite a fortune from the gangs and our dear lord rotten sh*t so the money part is taken care of.” She nodded at my report and said after a brief calculation, “I would guess about five to seven million gold.
With an addition of about two to four million gold depending on the circumstances.” I nodded and noted it down.
Then we began to address as many more issues as we could.
Once again the topic of the population came for which I only said that I was still looking into it.
After a good diet and routine, the people of this city were now starting to look alive but there were only two hundred and some of them.
This city could hold millions so at night, this city was no different than the ruins of a dead civilization.
I had asked for the families of the knights and soldiers to be relocated to this city if they wanted to and some were willing to do that.
All in all, we had dealt with what we could.
Now, the rest of the things would take some time.
A year or so and then there was another plan of mine.
But that was a bit far away for now.
Finally done with everything, we sat and checked reports until it got dark.
“I think I should leave now,” Sophien said as she stood up.
“Why?
Afraid I might do something?” I asked with a smirk on my face.
“Exactly.” Sophien didn’t hold back as she replied, “You may have lost your memory but allow me to inform you that you have once forced yourself upon me.
If it was you before, I wouldn’t have worried much about it but the current you are very strong and I have no confidence beating the sh*t out of you like before.” I laughed as I said, “My, my, you have some tongue on you, Lady Sophien.
Still, I will take that as a compliment.” “Don’t flatter yourself.
I can still defeat you.” She replied, halting her exit and confidently crossing her arms, her expression displaying nothing but confidence.
“Somehow I really doubt that,” I replied with a smirk that was as annoying as the word itself could get.
Sophien smiled as she pulled out her dagger from its sheath and she said, “Would you like me to prove it?” I wasn’t one to back away from a challenge as I said while equipping my gauntlets, “Prove it.” Sophien jumped at me who was sitting on a couch.
Her speed was fast, very fast as supported by her training as an assassin.
I dodged by standing and rolling to the side just in time as Sophien stabbed the back of the sofa.
I stood up and delivered a spinning kick to her leg but she dodged easily and jumped at me again.
This time I didn’t bother dodging but used my superior strength to hold onto her hands.
I pulled her closer once her jump was halted and spinning around, I pushed her into the wall behind me, restraining both of her hands on top of her head.
She didn’t hold but used her nimble movements and wrapped her legs around my neck after a slight jump and threw me on the ground, along with her.
I was underneath her and her thigh was on my neck while her dagger was pointing at my left eye.
I pushed her with all my strength and turned the tables, with me on top of her, her hands restrained once again.
She pushed her abdomen, throwing me off balance and crawling away from me.
before I could compose myself, she jumped at me once again but this time with a little twist.
She twisted and spun midair to gain momentum over her strike.
But it was useless as I easily stopped it with my superior strength though I did take some damage as my HP reduced by some point.
I once again pulled her into me but this time, spun her around with her back to me.
Once she was properly restrained in my embrace, I whispered in her ear, “Be careful, Lady Sophien.
You are awakening something in me.” Sophien scoffed slightly but there was no displeasure in that scoff as she bent forward, pushing her hips further into my waist, taking me along with her, and abruptly straightened, bashing her head into mine.
To avoid that strike, I had no other choice but to let go of her but I was also careful as I managed to snatch her dagger from her while separating from her.
I threw the dagger away as she turned around.
She saw her dagger but instead of heading towards it, she got into a proper stance for a hand-to-hand combat.
She struck her fist at me which I successfully deflected along with her next seven hits and delivered a few of my own which she couldn’t deflect and only backed away.
She kept backing away, focused on my hits, forgetting what was behind her.
She backed away one more time when her legs came into contact with something, my bed.
She stumbled and fell backward on the bed.
I didn’t miss the opportunity and grappled her by getting on top of her.
I once again restrained her arms above her head and restrained her properly, even her legs.
There was no way she would be able to get away now.
