The Archangel of Death - Chapter 126
126: Conquering the dungeon 126: Conquering the dungeon Chapter 126 “Welcome.” A croaky voice entered our ears as if the person speaking had been thirsty for years.
However, the liveliness in that voice couldn’t be ignored either.
“I haven’t had guests in a very long time.” The same voice came from the undead who was covered in a black robe as was typical for a Lich with its back turned to us.
I kept my eyes on it as I pushed Darren to reply, “We, we have come to defeat you, monster.” Darren spoke as he took a slight step forward, hesitation evident in his step because he could feel the death permeating from the Lich.
His instincts were telling him, ‘He could never win against that thing.’ “Is that so?
Are you with the Hartan Kingdom, then?” the Lich asked, still its back turned to us.
“The Hartan kingdom is now a history.
It was thrown off by a kingdom that was again thrown off by a democratic system.
It is now ruled by an old man who is hungry to expand his influence and businesses.” I answered that question for it since it was pointed at me anyway.
From the beginning, that thing knew, I was the one in charge here.
“So you finally decided to speak up.
I thought you would use these people when it comes to us as well.” The Lich said as it turned to us, its bony features now visible for all of us to watch.
Draped in a dark robe, only its hands and skull face could be seen.
The bones looked like they were polished given their clean look.
Its shining teeth were visible to us and a volde*ort-type nose but what instilled fear in everyone there were the red shining beads in its eye sockets.
“You are very confident with your low power.” The Lich commented, power of death and darkness infused in its every word that struck the souls of everyone here, making them feel as if their souls were being erased.
“Attack,” I said as I took a step forward.
An attack was coming and all I could do was act as a meat shield.
I wasn’t confident in coming out of this unscathed.
Well, unscathed was a modest term.
I would be very lucky if I even survived the strike.
“Very well.” The Lich spoke as it pointed its hands toward us and a ball of darkness began to form on its hand.
All I could hope was that this skill had a countdown.
[Sacred blessing] [Celestial guard] I used the skill on everyone there.
Well, almost everyone since my MP wasn’t sufficient for that so I only empowered those who truly mattered such as B+ and A- ones.
I also empowered myself while equipping all the armor I had in my inventory.
The thing was, I couldn’t dodge this attack.
I had to take it and any preparation was a step towards survival.
“NOW!
GO ACCORDING TO THE PLAN!!!” I shouted as I ran forward.
I wanted to negate this attack before it gained even more momentum and became deadlier than it already was.
[MP recovery potion consumed] [MP has been fully stored] [Skill ‘Celestial guard’ has been fortified with MP] ===== Adrian ran towards the attack conjured up by the Lich which it was confident would kill everyone here because of its special properties.
It even snickered a little when the human ran into it without even considering the underlying effects.
The human, Adrian, came into contact with the ball of darkness with a little red dot in its core and was thrown away to the corner of the room, bashed into the wall of the room and a cloud was formed of various particles, obscuring the view of the Lich.
But it wasn’t stupid.
The room was clean so there was no way a smoke screen would form because of that.
This smoke screen was intentional and the Lich wasn’t stupid enough to ignore that fact.
It focused its eyes and felt the mana signatures of various figures in the surroundings.
There were hundreds of mana signatures around and it couldn’t feel the signature of the one it had just shot its skill at so that one was at least dead.
The Lich felt itself surrounded and hundreds of skills prepared to shoot at it.
It simply smirked and extended both of its hands in both directions and a shield dark shield came to form around it.
The attacks of various attributes were useless on the shield but suddenly, the Lich felt something physical hit the shield.
It was confused and intrigued so it turned its head.
It was a small glass bottle and soon, many more followed.
Before the Lich could properly analyze the bottle, it felt skills of various attributes that were even more powerful than before being prepared.
It was confused.
There was no way the humans would be able to get past its shield so why were they so confident about this attack?
It then clicked.
The small bottles.
Boom!!!!!
A series of small explosions boomed around the shield that damaged the shield and left a few holes in it.
The humans didn’t hesitate and shot as much as they could at the Lich through the small window that was created.
A flurry of attacks fell on it and another series of explosions followed.
Balls of flames, a number of water-based attacks, and even more small bottles fell on the Lich.
A smokescreen formed for real this time.
Everyone watched with bated breath as the smoke began to settle.
The Lich came into view, unharmed by the looks of it.
However, everyone in the room could feel something.
Something dangerous.
Anger.
That’s right.
That’s what it was.
Anger.
Anger because of lowly beings that had managed to harm the one who had cheated death.
“You lowly beings.
How dare you even think of going against me!!!” It wasn’t a question.
It was anger.
The Lich was angry over the fact that such vulnerable beings had managed to not only successfully land attacks on it, but they had also delivered damage to it.
It raised its left hand as it said, “Feel and despair, beings who are bound by death.
The difference between me and you, who have overcome death, and you who can only wait for death to come and take you away.” “Field of death.” The Lich once again extended its hands and a circle black line formed around the room, enveloping all the humans in it.
As soon as the circle was completed, everyone fell to their knees as their eyes began to bleed and their senses began to dull.
As for the pain, it was nowhere near the pain of getting their hearts eaten out but it was still painful enough for them to scream.
“HaHaHaHa!!!!
That’s it!
SCREAM!!!!!
Feel the power of death.
Feel the power of the one who has overcome death.” The Lich laughed and exclaimed as everyone else around it felt nothing but pain.
Suddenly, however, the laughter of the Lich stopped as it felt something, someone touched its back.
“Well, I know a thing or two about overcoming death.
And that certainly doesn’t involve becoming a pile of bones.” The Lich heard the familiar voice of the one who had faced its first attack all alone.
But that was impossible since he was dead.
The Lich couldn’t feel its mana anymore.
But none of that mattered when the Lich felt something.
Something terrifying.
Its power, the power that it had amassed for centuries, the greatest power to ever exist was being taken away from it.
The power was being absorbed by the human before it.
The Lich was losing its power and that made it terrified.
It hurriedly turned to break contact but the human held one of its arms to remain in touch.
The Lich panicked and in its panic, it pointed its hand at the human and shot it with the strongest skill it had.
The skill that would wipe out even an S rank because of its deadliness.
“Death’s amalgamation!!!” The pure power of death engulfed the human whose hand wasn’t letting go of the human.
It wasn’t exactly pure like Adrian’s but it was pure enough to have very less particles of corrupted energy.
“Die!!!
DIE HUMAN AND DESPAIR FOR TOUCHING THIS GREAT BEING!!!!” The Lich once again spoke but once again, the laughter stopped.
Why?
The hand was still there.
“Well, I don’t know about despair but, thanks for the lunch.” The voice of the human came once again as the dark power began to be sucked into the human’s body.
The Lich was terrified but more than that, it was astonished.
A human that could absorb the power of death, better than it could who had become one with death.
The human spoke as if knowing what the Lich was thinking as he said, “This is the true power of death.
The power to remain human and gain power.
A creature like you is nothing but a loser who ran away from death.
You haven’t embraced death.
You’re afraid of it.
You ran away from it.” With every word of Adrian, the power being absorbed from the Lich quickened, and soon enough, its power lowered by one sub-rank.
It could feel it and it was nothing but terrifying.
It panicked but it used its brain.
It remembered how the first attack had worked.
If the death was also in the first attack, then the only factor was mana.
The Lich formed another ball of attack on its hand and pointed it at Adrian.
“Well, crap,” Adrian said as he let go of the Lich and jumped back.
This time, Adrian didn’t opt to take the attack but dodged.
“Attack!” Adrian yelled to the rest of the humans who had recovered.
When Adrian distracted the Lich, the field of death skill was also destroyed so they had enough time to collect themselves and prepare their attacks.
The attacks fell on the unprepared Lich once again and delivered a great deal of damage.
[HP 23315000] Adrian didn’t let go of the chance and ran into the smokescreen once again, feeling the power of death while the undead couldn’t feel Adrian because he had no mana.
Once again Adrian came into contact with the Lich and said, “Take it.
Tt full power.” The power of death began to flow from the Lich to Adrian at an unprecedented speed.
“NO!!!” The lich panicked and shot another attack on Adrian but this time, Adrian didn’t bother to dodge.
Why?
[Lich: Ferron de Howler] [Rank B+] Adrian smirked as the Lich’s attack power fell drastically.
Just as ‘Celestial guard’ powered by a lot of MP and ‘Sacred blessing’ was enough to negate that attack while Adrian kept absorbing the power of death from the undead.
Even at full power, it took three minutes for the Lich’s power to fall down by one rank.
That was how much power of death it had and Adrian couldn’t be more ecstatic about it.
Adrian used ‘High heal’, ‘Magic canon’, and holy bombs to keep diminishing the health of the Lich while he kept absorbing the power of death.
It was an arduous task and finally, after an hour of wailing by the Lich and all the attacks it could muster, enticement of anything and everything and all the usual B.S, the Lich finally fell to the F- rank at which point, just a single magic bullet shattered its skull and it crumbled into pieces.
Adrian stepped back.
Although he was feeling weak using a lot of MP potions in quick succession and even the HP potions, more than anything, he was happy.
[All Death branch skills have increased by one level] His happiness was tantamount to anything.
His death strand had increased by a whooping one and there was still more to come.
Something, he couldn’t wait to see.
Of course, that was after taking care of the loose ends.
“Now,” Adrian said as he consumed more potions to replenish his health, and MP as he said, “It pains me to say this after a successful expedition,” at this point, everyone still alive felt an ominous feeling wash over them as Adrian continued, “But your services are no longer required.” “AAHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Soon, screams of agony spread throughout the room as Adrian checked the flurry of notifications that appeared in his view.
