The Archangel of Death - Chapter 125
125: Fear of death?
125: Fear of death?
Chapter 125 The example was set.
They now knew what they were truly facing.
Chance of surviving by fighting the undead, or certain most painful death ever by going against me.
“Let’s move,” I said as we began to move through the corridor that led to another hall.
The knight this time was dealt with a few sacrifices of lower levels.
I once again absorbed its death and ended this hunt.
After a brief break and replenishment of mana and stamina for my fodder, we began to round through the dungeon, killing all the undead knights that were only nine.
The element of death I obtained from all of them was great in quantity.
My third strand completion was done up to twenty percent and in just a day, it was a substantial increase.
Oh yeah, in just a day, this dungeon was almost cleared except for the boss.
It was a brilliant idea to bring these guys here.
Some of the kidnapped ones couldn’t enter because they didn’t meet the requirement to enter but the number that entered easily was almost two thousand.
Almost two hundred B- to B+ ranks and eight A-.
it was very easy to clear this dungeon.
However, the next part would kill almost all if not all of the people here.
A golden door.
Although everything in this dungeon screamed extravagantly, this door was made of pure gold.
There was no need to spell that there was someone important beyond this door.
Probably the owner of this dungeon.
“Recollect yourselves.
We enter in an hour.” I said to the party of scumbags behind me.
the number of people had drastically decreased from when we entered this dungeon.
If before there were almost two thousand, now there were only five hundred or so.
Almost all of the E and D ranks were dead.
Most of the C ranks met the same fate.
A few odd B ranks died as well while as for the A ranks, except for the one that I killed, the rest survived.
Everyone settled down on the floor of the hall and I sat a little further away from them.
not because I was afraid of them but because I was afraid I might end up killing them all.
If not for Allison’s reminder, I wouldn’t have stopped the first time, and a whole lot more than five hundred would have died.
“Why are you doing this?” Darren, for the first time after I tortured him spoke.
His question was on everyone’s face there.
They all wondered why I was making them go through this.
“Just because.” I simply replied.
“Why are you doing this to us?
We have never done anything to you.
We don’t even know who you are.” A gang leader said with a plea in his tone.
I chuckled.
My chuckle turned into a peal of laughter as I heartily laughed for a few seconds before I replied, “Do you know everyone you have wronged?” They didn’t have an answer for this.
They had countless victims.
I could be any one of them or related to them.
The question was, if I had the resources to kidnap all of them, I couldn’t have crossed them ever because I was sure these guys chose their victims carefully.
Orphans, too insignificant people, people from the slums, or criminals that no one would ask about if they were to go missing.
I didn’t fit the scenario.
Then what was my objective?
Why was I doing this to them?
These questions were slowly gnawing away at their mentality, making them paranoid by the second, making them more of a ticking bomb than tamed animals.
That was why I wanted to finish this as soon as possible before they threw all caution to the wind and didn’t care for life or death and just attacked me which would force me to kill them because I can’t handle these guys alone.
“I know,” Darren said.
I was just wishing they wouldn’t do something to jeopardize my plans but from the looks of it, Darren was about to do the same exact thing.
“I know we aren’t getting out of this place.
You will kill us here whether we succeed or not.” This was a complication.
All I want is for these guys to handle the one thing inside but if they behaved like this, I doubt I would have any choice left other than kill them.
“Then I will just kill you.” But they aren’t so brave.
Even the bandits took a few days to give up.
For these guys, life was too precious so even though they could see no light at the end of the tunnel, that small whisper of hope that they would survive was what would keep them subservient.
It took a lot of courage to kill oneself and these guys hadn’t suffered enough for that yet.
“Don’t talk big when all you can do is hide behind a curtain.
If you knew what I would do to you, then why did you use the lower-ranked people as meat shields against the knights?
I know you.
You want to live.
You would do anything for it.
Even kill your own father.” When I said this, Darren’s eyes widened to the limit.
“That’s right.
I know your secret.
I know what you did.
It wasn’t a combined ambush from the gangs but a heart poison that killed him.
A heart poison that his son fed him because he was about to hand over the poison to the younger son because he was more benevolent than his elder son.
I know how you killed your brother before you made him watch these scums play with his wife.
I know how you laughed.
So go ahead now, laugh.” I recounted everything from top to bottom about Darren’s acts.
Saranhoff city belonged to the central government.
Its sudden rise and expansion raised many questions.
But the old lord was a kindhearted guy and he happily opened his doors for the refugees of the Caligulas city when many others turned them away.
So the raised questions were never spoken about because of that however, his son was a different story.
Darren kept everything hidden from everyone.
He made sure no news about the city was spread out.
He made sure the people of other cities and the government would only think that the city was still the same as it was during the old lord’s reign.
However, that didn’t last long when Eric got involved.
Oh yeah!
Our dear protagonist always gets himself involved in everything alright.
So the story goes like this.
Eric, Sera, Sasha, and Asmara, whom Eric had managed to sway by this time, came to finish this dungeon because this dungeon was a problem during the war with the demon king in Eric’s previous life.
Eric wanted to clear it so he came here.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t stay in Caligulas but they could reside in the Saranhoff city.
But when they wanted to enter, they were denied entry and it became quite an issue because everyone in the group was a very influential individual.
Also upon the reference of Sophien, Darren had no choice but to bring them in.
Darren catered to them and showed them the greatest hospitality he could.
But Eric got suspicious of all this.
Why were they denied entry in the first place?
It doesn’t make any sense.
There must be something else going on.
‘I just have to find it,’ was what Eric thought as he snuck out of the manor and explored the city at the worst time.
The time when the city’s corruption and wrongdoing was at its peak.
During night time when all the dark things happened.
Eric discovered almost everything.
From the beginning to the end, he discovered the operations of the gangs.
He discovered how the local militia did things.
He found out the pattern of their businesses.
Most of all, he found out about Darren’s involvement in all of this.
Surprisingly, Eric did nothing.
Not at the moment, no.
He returned to the manor.
Told Sera everything and they chose to contact Sophien who came to the city as soon as she could.
All of the crimes of Darren were investigated and revealed.
All the disgusting things he did came to light.
Sophien almost killed him on the spot after she came to know what he did to his sister-in-law but her rationality held her back.
Instead, she devised a punishment I very much liked.
She locked Darren with a bunch of bulky men in a small room and let them have their way with Darren.
Marvelous, I say.
Anyway, the hero of this incident was Eric who was given a special thanks from Cornelius in the form of an alliance between the seven kingdoms and the central government.
That played a major role in the seven kingdoms’ power gain and their schemes against the superpower of the world, the Lux family.
That’s a story for another time.
And also, that was how I knew everything about Darren.
That was why, although I was worried about these guys’ mentality breaking down, I wasn’t worried it would happen so soon.
These guys were still nothing but cowards and they would sell each other to save their own skins.
“You know, Darren, you deserve more than just this.
For your sins, just be grateful I’m not ripping your manhood and feeding it to you.” I said with the most terrifying expression I was sure my handsome face could come up with.
And seeing him shiver, it really must have been terrifying.
“Get up.
We are going in.” I said as I stood up and turned to the door made of pure gold.
Oh how I wish I could take it but from the looks of it, it was merged with the dungeon so I could take the spoils that weren’t but not these.
[Be careful] [I sense heavy death from beyond this door] [Far worse than the others combined] Allison’s words only excited me instead of making me worried.
She said that death was potent inside.
Not the rank of the Lich.
Stronger death meant stronger corrosion which meant that my companions would corrode faster even with the effects of the potion to ward off corrosion.
[Which also means you will have to finish it faster] [They die, and you would have no way left to fight the Lich alone] ‘Which means I have to be involved.’ So far, I hadn’t actively involved myself in any battle but now, when my fodder won’t be able to take the attacks of the opponent, I would have to involve myself and tank attacks because I was sure, the magical attacks of the Lich won’t work on me.
[That doesn’t make you invincible] Of course, it doesn’t.
It only gives me protection against the effect of the skill, the mana part is still there.
Confused?
Well, it’s like this.
The Lich will use mana to form a skill that would have dark properties.
Death properties to be exact.
Milder than mine but still, nothing can be done against death.
So anyway, the effect of that skill would be to kill the enemy faster however, that effect won’t work on me because I already have the element of death.
My immunity would allow me to live past the danger of the effect but the mana that was used to make the skill was still there and it would hurt me.
Although I have no mana and mana has no effect on me, that doesn’t stand for the higher levels of mana that are more potent.
This means that air on lower levels is a breeze and brings nothing but soothing but on stronger levels, it uproots lands and destroys everything.
Terrible example but a point was made.
I pushed the door open which was surprisingly very easy.
Almost as if just a gentle push would have opened it up.
I, along with everyone entered the room slowly.
‘Room’ was a modest term, it was more like a baseball field.
But it wasn’t one but actually a library.
In the middle, there was an altar and around it, almost to the walls were several tables with different apparatuses and materials on them.
The walls themselves were covered in shelves, filled with books and books wherever the gaze went.
But my gaze didn’t linger for long as I saw the figure standing near the altar calmly.
It didn’t turn its head but simply said in an ominous voice, “Welcome.” ===== Please leave a review to let me know how I’m doing so far.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
