The Archangel of Death - Chapter 106
106: Enemy infiltration 106: Enemy infiltration Chapter 106 There are many things I hate.
One of them is irresponsibility.
It is not the kind of irresponsibility where one doesn’t do what they are supposed to.
It is the kind in which people don’t own up to their mistakes and pay for them.
One such example was a character in the novel.
Zeren.
Zeren was denied what was his and then, he was betrayed by the Seven Kingdoms.
It wasn’t an intentional overtaking but more of a mistake by the kingdoms.
However, not paying for that mistake was the fault of the Seven Kingdom alliance hence making them irresponsible.
They thought they were big enough and strong enough that they didn’t need to lower their heads to an insignificant person like Zeren.
No.
They even acted like it was their privilege to act that way, making things even worse.
Now how do I know all of this?
Because Zeren is the reason behind the misfortune and the plot behind the third test.
This should have been the problem in the third test but it ended up becoming the problem for the second one.
How?
Well, the quest description provided me with an answer.
[The Predators and the Protector] [Rank: Impossible Description: A major change in the story has occurred.
What should have happened in the future is happening but a little differently and early.
But how are you, the anomaly, related to this change?
Delve into this quest and find out.
A demon and a vampire have infiltrated this artifact and they are after someone you care.
Thwart their plans.
Objective: Stop the infiltrators from kidnapping Laura Ravenknight.
Defeat the demon and kill the vampire.
Reward(s): Level up x???
Vampire blood essence x2 Demonic essence x2 ???
???
???
Punishment: Unknown] The plot had severely changed.
Not that I cared about the plot but I cared when my people were being targeted.
And not just anyone but Laura.
Now that I know the objective, understanding the rest of everything isn’t difficult.
After all, the elven request had already arrived.
They just want to also make sure they have insurance before the negotiations.
[Does it make you angry?] ‘I want to rip their tongues from their throats.’ Those pointy-eared bastards.
How dare they target Laura.
I will make sure they regret it.
It won’t simply end with compensation or a light punishment.
I will make their entire race feel it.
“Layla, Alicia,” I called Layla who was puzzled by the lack of anything that should have been happening, and Alicia who was just standing next to me, and said, “Kill yourselves.” Alicia was puzzled by my order while Layla couldn’t understand anything.
There was still time, I needed to make sure everything was okay here before heading over to the deserted portion of the artifact to protect Laura.
The reason I was asking everyone to kill themselves was because it was the condition of the phenomenon known as bridge.
The third test which was also an attack on the school, was the episode when this tactic was used.
If the students were to be killed by the assailants, they would be teleported out of this artifact, not back to the academy but to the temporary artifact which is in the enemy territory.
This was a major plot.
Three of the seven apostles were kidnapped this way and the human world had almost gone to a war with the other races.
Not only that, it was a major opportunity for Eric to grow who, being the protagonist, somehow lucked at landing a spot in the team that secretly infiltrated the demon continent and rescued the kidnapped students.
It was also the major development between Eric and Sasha, another apostle candidate.
Anyway, right now the problem was that if anyone was killed by the infiltrators, they would materialize in the demon city, not at the Bellator.
That was why if they killed themselves or I were the one to do that, then they would safely materialize back at the academy.
“But why?” Layla asked, utterly confused by my order.
She knew I wouldn’t ask something unnecessary so she knew there was purpose behind it but even then, she couldn’t help but ask.
“Just do it.” I had no time to explain so I simply asked her to do it.
She nodded and turned to the rest of the camp, “Everyone, the test has been canceled.
There is a problem with the artifact.
We have been asked to end the test, and to end the test, we must kill ourselves.” Unlike me, Layla gave a plausible explanation.
However, a question was raised by that explanation, “How do you know?” Someone from the crowd asked to which, she replied, “The crystals that the leaders were given were different from the rest.
We can communicate with the professors with it.” Luckily, she had an explanation already.
Before more questions could be raised as ‘show the proof’ and whatnot, she loudly exclaimed, “To show you that I am telling the truth, I will go first.” Saying so, she turned to me and nodded.
It was safe to say that right now, the score was meaningless so I ended Layla in one swift strike of my dagger that killed her before she could even feel it.
Layla turned into blue pixels and disappeared in front of everyone.
This should have been enough proof and even if they didn’t believe us, I didn’t care.
They can all die for all I care.
I just needed the main characters to keep the story going.
As expected, many were skeptical about it but I didn’t bother explaining to them.
I turned to Zefton and nodded next.
Zefton seemed reluctant but seeing that Layla had no reason to lie and it was Layla who was saying it, he decided to believe her and turned to his friends and said, “Do as she says, guys.” “But Zefton, we don’t eve–” One of his friends began to complain but Zefton interrupted him by yelling, “JUST DO IT!
Believe me.” His friends, confused and lost, chose to remain quiet and after a quick exchange of glances, one of his friends said, “Then at least do it quickly.
I heard that the pain is real.” Zefton nodded and quickly snapped the necks of both of his friends one by one.
Or at least he tried to but his inexperience in killing showed up and he hesitated midway through giving his friends anything but a painless death.
He turned to me and said, “I will let you have the pleasure.” Why would I have pleasure killing him?
I inwardly retorted but still threw my dagger from where I was standing.
It squarely landed in the middle of his forehead, piercing his brain and killing him on the spot.
After that, I turned to Alicia and said, “Bless me.” Alicia didn’t say anything and did as she was told.
[You have been blessed by the Holy Saint] [The power is resonating inside of you] [An incredible effect has taken place] [All stats +10%] [MP recovery rate +50%] [HP recovery rate +100%] [The buff will last thirty minutes] “Good.
Now do it.” I instructed her next and she nodded.
She closed her eyes and from what looked like it, manipulated her mana to pierce her heart.
She soon turned into pixels and disappeared from the spot.
Since I didn’t give a fu*k about the rest, I turned my attention back to the battlefield and it was then that I made a figure far away in the distance, slowly moving towards us.
From the looks of it, that guy would get here in some time, and seeing that Alicia’s buff would last only thirty minutes, I decided to go to him instead of waiting for him here.
I would have gone straight to Laura but given that I needed to kill one of them and this guy could be that one, I decided to deal with him first.
I moved to the spot where Zefton had died to pick up my dagger.
I then jumped as high as I could by about twenty feet before I came down with a loud boom, quite a bit away from the camp.
I then released my full speed and started running towards the enemy far away in the distance.
[Sacred blessing] My stats were once again boosted up to fifty percent which gave me another boost in my current running speed.
It still took five minutes of relentless running at my full speed before I could properly see the individual who seemed to have noticed me as well given he was just standing there, staring at me.
Before I could cover up the rest of the distance, I analyzed him while still running.
Given that his charm wasn’t high and his skin wasn’t that much pale, he wasn’t the vampire so this guy was a demon.
Not giving him any chance, as soon as I was in range, I shot myself at him explosively while hitting him with a prepared punch with as much power as I could muster.
He also sensed me preparing and made a preparation of his own.
Our fists met halfway and there was a clear winner in strength.
Although our strength was the same, currently at the peak of the B+ rank that the artifact allowed.
However, I had the advantage of momentum in my hit which made my hit a little bit stronger.
Just a little bit but that was enough to throw him off balance.
Without giving him a chance, I conjured about fifty magic canons around me and attacked him with them.
Although my skill level was quite high and my INT was also maxed out according to this artifact, he seemed to have prepared as well.
Before my canons fell on him, I saw a green shield appear around him that basically made my skill ineffective.
However, unlike my skills, his skill must have a cool-down unless it was an artifact.
Unfortunately, it was.
“It was a wise decision coming here.
I never trusted that buffoon from the beginning.” He said as the surroundings calmed down and his face was revealed to me.
‘So that’s why the quest asked me to defeat the demon, not kill him.’ I remarked inwardly as we stared at each other.
I knew of the guy before me.
One of the headaches of the novels.
A Villain.
He was a mid to high-grade villain.
The duplicator.
That’s what I called him when I was reading the novel.
Of course, he was also known by another title.
“And what brings the eldest demon prince here?” I asked out loud as I analyzed the condition of both of us.
I was out of stamina given I had run about seventeen miles nonstop at full speed.
[A stamina potion has been consumed] [Stamina restored] I felt refreshed as he answered my question, “Well, what brings anyone anywhere.
Work.” I chuckled because he wasn’t as cool-headed as he appeared to be right now.
His job was just to stall, to keep me here.
Just like Lincoln.
“Now I knew of the elves but I wasn’t aware you were friendly with the crown prince of the Cortum empire as well,” I said out loud.
There was no need to worry.
Although the professors could see what was happening, there was no audio option so whatever was said, remained between us.
His expression changed as I mentioned the friendships they had behind closed doors.
Oh yeah!
Closed doors.
“That reminds me.
How is that elven girl you’re bedding these days?
Rumors have it she is feisty in bed.” As soon as I mentioned the elven girl he had an ongoing affair with, his expression changed for the worse.
“I wouldn’t mind trying her for myself.” But since I was already this far, no harm in fanning the flame, eh?
“Dark Blaze!” He unleashed a deadly skill without considering his previous plans.
[Celestial guard] Ha!
So easy to provoke I thought as I conjured up the shield around me.
However, the problem of dealing with a demon soon became apparent as a crack appeared in my shield.
Soon, that crack increased to the point my shield was on the verge of breaking.
Of course, before it did, I ran back and dodged.
“I WILL KILL YOU!!!” My opponent bellowed with all his might and shot another deadly skill at me.
