The Archangel of Death - Chapter 104
104: Raising points 104: Raising points Chapter 104 “What do we do now?” Layla asked as we entered the camp.
She was relying on my orders a bit too much.
That wasn’t good.
For her own and myself either.
[She is showing her incompetence] ‘Exactly.’ “Figure it out on your own.
You are the leader.” I said in a low voice that only she and the close-standing Zefton could hear.
She was taken aback at my reply but didn’t mind.
Instead, she focused on the hidden meaning which, even given her intellect, she could figure out.
She nodded and left.
Zefton left with her.
I turned to Alicia and said, “Come on.
We are leaving as well.” Alicia was puzzled why we were leaving as soon as we returned but she didn’t ask.
We quietly left without being spotted by anyone.
We returned to the snowy mountains.
From the novel, I knew of the Ice Kuma but unfortunately, there was no mention of any other overlord so I didn’t know where to look for them either.
But wouldn’t this simple problem be solved if we killed every living thing in this area?
“From now on, we will begin the massacre of races.
We will sharpen our skills so make sure to use them as much as you can.” I nonchalantly instructed Alicia while spotting a wolf-type monster.
It was alone which might say it wasn’t exactly a wolf.
Alicia didn’t reply but the word massacre must have triggered something inside of her.
This was another purpose of mine.
To make her headstrong.
If she can’t handle this much heat, how will she handle the wars in the future?
[Why are you trying to make her tolerable though?] ‘Are you asking because you don’t know or because you’re acting oblivious?’ Alicia’s mental health is a critical plot in the entire novel.
Times and times again demons and other races try to target her mind.
I don’t know the reason but in the seventh volume, just as Eric was fighting the demon king, in another scene, Alicia had finally broken down.
The demon king also says something cringe about it.
That was why training her mind had been my main focus from the beginning.
The stabbing and killing, it was all so she could slowly become resilient to cruel things.
Of course, just the cruel approach wasn’t enough.
[Hence the kiss] ‘I won’t comment any further.’ Anyway, it is crucial that Alicia becomes prone to these things and to do that, she must become prone to killing.
Of course, I won’t make her kill a human so soon.
That part will have the most strongest impact and it will take a lot of time to heal.
Not to mention a long time to prepare.
“Are you ready?” I asked when she was still preparing herself.
There was a reason behind me pushing her.
Plant a justification.
It would be much more easier if she had someone to blame it on.
Though I doubt she would blame me so easily but the option would still be there.
“Yes.” She replied in a low voice.
I nodded and shot a magic canon at the wolf.
I made sure to aim at its legs so it doesn’t die but also doesn’t escape.
And as always, I didn’t miss and the wolf was heavily injured to run away but it was still breathing.
I got closer to it while Alicia also meekly followed.
I stared down at the wolf and said, “I’m curious whether you are a wolf or not.
Why don’t you howl?” If it howled and its friends showed up, it was a wolf, if they didn’t, then it wasn’t.
Simple.
The monster was fiercely staring at me but didn’t let out a single sound.
It simply closed its eyes and accepted its fate.
“Suit yourself.” I shot another canon and killed it.
I didn’t bother storing the body because I had no need for it.
We moved on and this time, came across a pack of wolves.
They were a little larger in size than the wolf we encountered back there and their fangs were also sharper from the looks of it.
I didn’t ask whether Alicia was ready this time or not.
I simply shot at the wolves leaving just one alive.
The last wolf was confused about what had happened.
One moment, it was standing with all of its pack, and the next moment everyone around it was dead on the cold snow while their blood changed the color of the snow.
It turned towards us, still shocked, and as soon as it did, it lost all reason and attacked us.
Its speed was moderate for a C rank monster.
“Kill it.” I simply said and moved back.
Alicia was also taken aback by the scene in front of her.
A kind person like her would once think like this, ‘What if it was me?’ “Pull yourself together,” I said and prepared at the same time.
If she couldn’t pull herself out, then I would have to kill the wolf but fortunately, she didn’t disappoint.
She punched the monster aimlessly but with instinctual mana empowerment both from skill and raw mana.
Her fist went straight through the leaping wolf but the wolf was also successful in biting into her arm.
Of course, it died before it could rip off her flesh.
Regardless, Alicia didn’t feel pain.
The emotional anguish and the difficulty in coming to a decision were taking a toll on her that her mind didn’t even register the pain from the fangs.
[High heal] I healed it for her but she still hadn’t seemed to have snapped out of it.
“Alicia.” I lightly called her making her snap out of it, a little startled she glanced around wondering, remembering what she was doing.
“It’s all right.
Everything is okay.” I assured her.
She smiled sweetly in return but I could see it was a forced smile.
I said nothing about this and we kept on moving.
[What are you going to do about them?] ‘Let them be.
I don’t know their intentions for now.’ Me and Alicia continued killing all the monsters.
Wolves, ice kumas, reindeer, and snow monkeys were the four most prominent monsters we faced.
Alicia showed hesitance again and again but by the time we killed the monkey overlord, she had adapted to the situation quite well.
My points were a whopping fifty-two by now.
And so were Alicia’s.
By this score, if we defend both of the next attacks, my points would stack up to 92 without counting the contribution points.
This means I would need to kill one more overlord to make my points 102 leaving me with only two insurance points.
I should have taken the leader’s position.
[Stop whining] [They’re getting closer] ‘Still let them be.’ The time for the next attack was eighteen hours and me and Alicia have been hunting for about eleven.
Counting the two hours we took to take down the Kuma lord, there were still five hours left before the next attack began.
But one thing I knew for sure was that now no one could make score more than me.
“I think we should return now,” I told Alicia as I handed her a skewer made from reindeer meat.
She took it and nodded after which she gracefully bit into the hot charred meat.
I also nodded and ate my own.
Once we were done eating and warmed up by the fire properly, we decided to head back because there were only four and a half hours left and the camp was still about three hours away.
[Now they’re getting on my nerves] ‘Should I obliterate them from existence?’ [Yes] “Alicia, go straight to the camp and help in preparation.
Run.
Fast.” I instructed Alicia who realized that something was up but she didn’t put up much resistance.
She knew I could handle anything that was thrown at me inside this artifact.
Alicia left but I remained in my place.
Seeing that my pursuers didn’t follow Alicia, meant that they were after me.
“So, ‘brother’, what brings you to me?” I asked, sarcastically emphasizing on brother.
Lincoln came out from behind a tree along with the three of his friends.
Now this wasn’t surprising.
What was surprising was what they were holding.
[Desolate imprisonment] [Rank C+] From the description, it showed that it was a C+ rank artifact that could bind an individual of up to C+ rank for a specific amount of time.
This made their purpose obvious but what I still couldn’t understand was why.
They couldn’t steal my points and if they wanted to hold me here, they had to do it manually which meant they would be losing points from the camp siege as well.
“It would be better for you if you don’t resist, Adrian,” Lincoln spoke while his friends surrounded me.
“Keh… What a cringe line.
Can’t you be more original?” I remarked as I prepared myself.
Not to fight them, no.
These guys were just a joke.
I prepared myself to hold a bonding session with my brother who will tell me, what he really wants.
But unfortunately, I can’t make the first move.
After all, I only have two insurance points.
Killing even one would bring my total score to zero so I can’t afford to do that.
I could, however, defend myself innocently against an attack that was made on a law-abiding citizen in broad daylight.
The first one to go, with the lowest speed.
In other words, the one on my right.
I equipped the dagger of Desaant and prepared myself.
Although they were the ones attacking me, I couldn’t take a stupid chance of attacking first.
There are some scenarios in which even if you are defending yourself, attacking first can automatically make you an assailant.
I kept my eyes on my first target but didn’t move.
I wasn’t worried.
These brats were young.
There’s no way they wouldn’t be hot-blooded and I was proven right when Lincoln yelled, “NOW!” At the same time, the three of his friends jumped at me.
Without waiting, I threw the dagger at the one with the lowest speed who I knew he wouldn’t be able to dodge while I myself dodged the attacks from the other two.
They followed up.
The attack of the one with the higher speed reached me first which showed the terrible coordination they had but his strength was lacking.
I was able to bare-handedly stop it with my left hand while I spun and delivered a spinning kick to his liver with full strength.
He was sent flying and his hands couldn’t keep hold of the sword.
That left me with the last one.
The one with a decent strength.
He stopped after seeing the state of both of his friends.
I made sure to not kill both of them but I didn’t hold back on the pain factor.
“What are you doing?
Attack!” Lincoln rushed him and a young mind like him couldn’t handle the pressure.
He jumped aimlessly at me and unfortunately, drove himself on the sword in my hand.
“Tch, Tch.
If this is the future, then I’m worried.” I commented as the guy turned into blue pixels before disappearing completely.
Just as I finished with him, a blue globe appeared around me.
If I had to guess, that would be the artifact Lincoln had been planning on using on me earlier.
“Hahaha!
Serves you right, you bastard.
Now there is no getting out of it.” I ignored the fifth-grade villainous dialogues of Lincoln and checked my points crystal first, it still showed 52 which meant that this was all considered as self-defense.
I smirked and took a step forward.
“You know brother,” I began as I effortlessly stepped out of the blue shield made of mana around me which shocked Lincoln so much that he couldn’t even speak, “I’m wounded by the fact that you think so low of me.” [Magic canon] I shot a few magic canons at the one I had hit in the liver and he died on the spot.
Ignoring Lincoln, I changed my direction to the one who had a dagger in his stomach.
He was trying to pull it out but he couldn’t.
“Wondering why you can’t pull it out?” I asked as I knelt in front of him.
He was in pain so he didn’t answer so I answered for him, “Well, that is because,” I began as I grabbed the dagger and slowly pulled it out before placing it at his throat and slowly slit it, “Only I can use it.” I watched as he slowly bled out before I turned my attention to my supposed brother, who was running a couple of meters away and threw the dagger in my hand aimed straight at his leg.
And as always, I didn’t miss.
