Chapter 454: Chapter 454- The Sleeping Capital
This might be their last time catching the Divine Paladin off guard; there cannot be any mistakes.

“Relax, everything has been prepared; today shall be the last day he takes his breath.”

The high ranking demon assured, confident of his victory.

.

.

Around the same time as Reinhardt was walking the frozen land, the knight orders reached the place that used to be the royal capital. However, right now, something that defied reason stood before them.

The Tower loomed so vast that it seemed to pierce heaven itself. Its base spread across the wall of the city, swallowing streets, rivers, palaces, and houses alike.

They already expected the tower to be huge from afar; however, now that they had reached the base, they understood how infinite it was. The city was gone, consumed.

The knights stood there with grave silence and shock. From the outside, there was no way of telling how the people inside were doing. Whether they were safe or not.

Thankfully, there were still many knight orders and their own members stationed inside. With them protecting the capital, the people should still be fine.

The six commanders looked at the wide open entrance of the tower that looked like the maw of the abyss, dark and despairing.

“Is it inviting us in?”

“That’s just how the labyrinth of the Abyssal Compass is.”

Having already experienced the power of the Ultimate Demonic Treasure, Conrad explained.

“Listen carefully, the Tower of Babel feeds on more than just your strength; it feeds on your willpower. Once you step inside, you will be teleported to an endless labyrinth which has no end. It’ll play with your mind, cause your body to slow down, and your heart to falter”…

“This place will test you. It will whisper your fears, strip your memories, and drain your strength moment by moment. Don’t listen. Don’t stop. If you do, this place will consume you.”

His words were more for the young knights of the orders rather than for the commanders.

The young knights nodded their heads, taking his advice to heart.

Seeing their brave faces that refused to get consumed by fear, Conrad nodded his head.

“Let’s go.”

And so, the six commanders and the seven knight orders headed inside.

.

“What? Where did everyone go?”

The moment Kevin stepped through the gate of the tower, he suddenly found himself in a narrow alleyway with no one around. Just until a moment ago, he was with the members of the Temple of Light, and now he was here all alone.

“Looks like we all got teleported randomly.”

Still, from the look of things, it didn’t seem like they were teleported too far. Kevin looked up. The sky was all dark. The darkness was not the darkness of the night sky, but a pitch black that devoured even the light.

He was definitely in the city.

“Still, why is it so quiet?”

Kevin knocked on the door of a nearby building. However, there was no response. He knocked a couple more times, and the result was the same.

It appeared that there was no one in the building, which was quite unusual given the population of the place and the crowd that was gathered due to the Magic Knight Entrance Exam.

That’s right, the coliseum! Sir Bob and the others were there. Kevin was sure that the other members of the Temple of Light would also head for the coliseum. He made haste.

That said, just as he turned around a corner, his pace came to a stop. The reason for that lay on the road. The citizens, they were all lying on the ground, passed out.

What was going on?

Kevin tried waking them up. However, it seemed like some kind of power was acting on them, making it impossible for them to wake up.

He could see faint violet smoke coming out of their bodies.

“Is this also one of the powers of the Abyssal Compass?” Anyways, the good news was that the people were in no imminent danger.

Kevin focused on reaching the coliseum; his steps were more hurried than before. On his way, he witnessed the populace of the entire city passed out. There was not even a single soul that was awake.

Before long, he reached the coliseum. Just like he predicted, the members of the Temple of Light also assembled there. He could see Gwen and the others already waiting in front of the building.

Looks like not everyone was here. Kevin’s arrival was also noticed by everyone, who looked similarly relieved after seeing his face.

“Why are you arriving here only now?” Gwen complained.

“Haha, I wasn’t sure if everyone would gather at the Colosseum. Besides, I kept on checking if any citizens were still awake on my way.” Thanks to that, he got a little late.

The others didn’t delve into the topic and changed the conversation.

“So it was the same for you too, huh? By the way, did you see Sir Marcus or any of the True Knights or high ranking knights on your way here?”

At that question from Gwen, Kevin looked confused. Nonetheless, he still answered with a shake of his head.

“Why are you asking that? Has elder sister Silvia and senior Vangeance not arrived here yet?”

“That’s the problem. They are not here.”

The one to answer him was Rolan. “I just came back from meeting other members of the knight orders. They similarly cannot find their high ranking knights.”

“My assumption is that the powerful knights were all teleported to a different floor,” Delicia mused.

“What do you mean different floor?” The former knight pointed up.

“The sky might look dark and endless. However, there has to be a ceiling up there, right? We are inside a tower after all. If there is a ceiling, there has to be a higher floor.”

“If all powerful knights were teleported to a different floor, then what about Sir Bob and the others who should have been inside the coliseum?”

“They are not there?” Gwen answered, clarifying his doubt.
