Chapter 451: Chapter 451- Awakened Abyssal Compass (2)
“Bark is nature’s ration. It’s a balanced diet.”

Conrad spoke proudly; his vast knowledge made his knight’s life miserable.

It was the same for Zargeus too. The latter had practically destroyed his own camp and crystal and had the guts to say that it was an inevitable sacrifice. Needless to say, his response evoked a lot of complaints from his order.

The only ones spared from such treatment were Reinhardt, Vanessa, Leona, and Herman, who commanded absolute respect from their orders.

The former stood before the knights of his order; they were all battered, but their spirits were still unbroken. Well, except for the new squires who looked like they had seen ghosts.

Reinhardt’s eyes shifted from his knights toward the crystal that they had been protecting dearly all this time.

While the meaning of the crystal, which was an aspect of the event, was redundant now, given that it was proven in front of all the citizens of the kingdom that there are no knight orders capable of replacing the Seven.

Nevertheless, it was still an accomplishment to save the crystal when orders like Blazing Sun and Thunderstorm Brigade failed to protect theirs from the storm that erased the valley itself.

Additionally, it also showed the grit and willpower of his knights, who were willing to put their bodies on the line to defend the crystal.

Reinhardt nodded, acknowledging their efforts. “You all did well, protecting the crystal until the end. You have made me proud.”

Some of the stoic knights of his order showed bashful smiles.

Just then, the eye of the Abyssal Compass fully opened.

Dozens of miles away, Reinhardt’s body stiffened, and a sense of danger struck him.

[Celestial Harmony] had activated, enhancing his reflexes, focus, and coordination. The world dulled; the laughter and arguments around him faded, and his perception stretched across everywhere. He could feel it; darkness was stirring.

“So that person has made their move, huh.” He narrowed his eyes and looked at the people around him.

“Everyone, listen carefully. Protect the capital and its citizens.”

Hm? The six commanders glanced toward him. What’s wrong with the Divine Paladin? Why was he suddenly talking like that?

Reinhardt did not clarify as he did not have much time. He continued, “You all stay together and don’t worry about me. No matter what happens later, I’ll be fine.”

Marcus and the others looked confused.

“Hey, why are you suddenly saying such grim words?” Brutus questioned, feeling something amiss. However, the time was up.

Before anyone could react, he reached forward and snatched the crystal from his knight’s grasp. Then, with a flash of ominous light, he was swallowed in.

Whoosh…

When the light faded, he was gone, and so was the crystal. For a second or two, no one spoke. They all stared at the place where the Divine Paladin had been a moment ago with startled expressions.

No one expected the Temple of Light’s crystal to shine all of a sudden, much less…

“He teleported himself?” Brutus tilted his head, trying to make sense of the situation.

“No, rather than teleport, it looked more like he was forcefully sucked in.” Vanessa offered her observation. She had already transitioned into her battle mode.

It was the same for the other commanders, too. Something did not sit right.

“He said to protect the capital. Why would he say that…”

Before Conrad could finish his sentence, the sky began to darken. All of a sudden, a creeping shadow fell over the horizon, swallowing the light and silencing the wind. The sun’s glow began to fade, and it quickly turned black as if something had sealed the heavens.

A sudden eclipse!!

“Something is wrong. Today is not supposed to be the day of the eclipse.” Leona, who was more knowledgeable about stars and celestial bodies than anyone here, furrowed her brows.

The eclipse was just the beginning; the next second, the ground trembled violently. It was a deep, low rumble that shook the very tectonic plates, growing fiercer and fiercer until even the air vibrated intensely.

And then…

They all felt it. The six commanders swiveled their heads toward the direction of the capital, only to stand rooted with wide open eyes.

Seeing the reactions of their commanders, the members of the Seven Orders all followed their line of direction and made the very same expression.

Far in the distance, from the heart of the kingdom, a black spire rose from the earth, like a jet black pillar of corruption that connected the earth with the heavens. The Tower rose higher and higher, piercing through the clouds until it practically seemed like it was joined with the eclipse.

The moment the tower; no, the spire of corruption appeared, the world darkened and a heavy feeling of malice spread everywhere. The malevolence in the atmosphere was so great that one could actually see tiny clusters of demonic energy form in the air.

This was bad! This was very, very bad!!

This level of contamination showed that the level of demonic energy had reached the mid stage and was quickly inching closer to the late stage.

What in the world was going on? This level of spread of demonic energy was not normal.

All the commanders could feel the powers in their bodies rebel, a form of passive resistance.

“That tower, it rose from the direction of the capital, right?” Zargeus questioned. His words were exactly the thoughts that were going inside the minds of the others.

The six commanders stood in silence, trying to make sense of the situation. As for their orders, they waited by the side, awaiting their orders.

From Reinhardt’s sudden disappearance to the sudden eclipse and now the emergence of the tower, one peculiar phenomenon after another occurred without any indication.

It was also at this moment that Reinhardt’s earlier words made sense. Did that guy already know that something like this would happen?

In any case, what they needed to do was clear.

Protect the capital.
