Chapter 427: Chapter 427- New Stat?!! (3)
Listed in front of him were several classes. Usually, no, up until now, he only had one class available to him after each level up.

Even when he reached level 4 the last time, there was only one class open. Yet right now, there were so many options.

What was going on?

As astonishing as the situation was, it was not like he did not have any clue. “Is it because of that weird incident?” Kevin thought to himself. It was the only unexplainable thing that explained him suddenly getting so many classes.

Be that as it may, it also made his work a little harder.

Since a knight’s class proved as important as their sword and armor, the decision could not be made hastily. It had to be carefully deliberated upon before choosing; after all, their current and new skills and how they would evolve in the future depended entirely on that selection.

Thankfully for Kevin, he didn’t need to think too deeply even with so many classes available; after all, he couldn’t use skills thanks to possessing no mana.

His real dilemma was more about which class name sounded cooler, like Burning Fighting Fighter and other trivial matters.

It was at this very moment, while he deliberated on such nonsensical things, that [Tiamat], who had awakened momentarily from its slumber, spoke to him.

“Pick the class [Flamebound].”

At those words, Kevin turned to question it directly.

“Is there a special reason why? Like, if I choose this class, will I suddenly be able to use mana and skills? Or maybe it’s some kind of hidden, rare class that only I get to unlock?”

The boy still harbored hopes that maybe, just maybe, he was special.

“It’s nothing like that. In fact, you can choose any other class if you wish. Besides, why would you even want to use mana when you can use Aether?”

The latter half of [Tiamat]’s voice was so low that it was barely audible.

The boy, who had held hopes of being special, watched his dreams crumble.

“Then why did you tell me to pick this class?” Kevin questioned, indignant.

“Well, I just wanted you to hurry and couldn’t stand seeing you grin like a fool. In any case, don’t overthink it and just pick any. For you, class matters not. Just try to focus on your Dragon Heart and reaching the next stage.”

“It’s that mysterious Dragon Heart talk again.”

“Fine.”

The truth was, he had already realized that his method of growth was different from the others.

His strength didn’t rely on skills but rather stemmed from the abilities of his sword. In that case, it mattered not which class he chose, just as the sword had said.

And so, Kevin made his decision swiftly.

In the end, he went with [Flamebound], a powerful class but not overly rare.

Having finished choosing his class, Kevin reviewed the rest of his status carefully. Thanks to the grueling training and missions his body endured over the past year, his stats had surged dramatically, with most reaching Intermediate (Intermediate).

Furthermore, his Strength and Stamina had even reached Intermediate (High). No wonder his body felt so remarkably light.

Kevin, now in excellent spirits, glossed through the remainder of his status.

His mana… remained as ever: nil. His traits were few and limited. Everything else remained unchanged as usual.

His eyes were just about to leave the altar when suddenly a new word he hadn’t seen before appeared just below his mana field.

“Aether?! What’s happening? What is this new stat?”

He called it a new stat because the word appeared in the field where his stats were listed.

“Precisely. That is your new stat. From now on, level up that stat of yours more than any other. All my abilities and your power are connected to it,” [Tiamat] answered.

.

.

“Oh, you’re back. How did it go?” Gwen, who was waiting outside the hall, questioned.

“I leveled up?!!”

“Oh? You don’t sound certain? Aren’t you happy? You’re level 5 now, the same level as me.”

The last time she came with him to check their status, he was practically leaping with happiness after reaching level 4.

Yet now that he had reached an even higher realm, becoming someone who could be called a high level fighter by the world’s standards.

Most importantly, he was just one level away from reaching level 6, the knightly rank he had always dreamed of attaining. Yet the boy didn’t appear happy.

“Ah, it’s not that. I’m really happy… haha.”

Yes, he was genuinely happy; it was simply that he had much to contemplate.

Aether, a new stat that suddenly appeared in his status out of nowhere. Moreover, according to [Tiamat], it connected directly to his growth and abilities.

Strength, Agility, Mana, Endurance, Stamina, and Luck. The six fundamental stats that all living beings in this world possess. They form the core of one’s strength and the foundation upon which their skills and sword techniques rely.

So what was Aether?

What did it truly signify, and how could one increase it?

Kevin couldn’t be faulted for knowing nothing of his newfound powers; after all, possessing more than six stats clearly deviated from the normal; no, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it abnormal.

Even Reinhardt possessed only the fundamental six stats. As such, Kevin’s situation was clearly an exception among exceptions.

“I wish the sword would reveal more.”

“Yo,” Vangeance called out.

Kevin had become so absorbed in his thoughts that he hadn’t even realized they’d arrived at the Arcknight’s mansion. He passed by Vangeance while still lost in his own world.

Noticing the other party’s dismissal, the latter’s eyes twitched.

“I see you’ve been doing too well. Brat, did you get a big head just because you defeated a Demonified Knight? Come, let me experience that Crimson State of yours. I’ll beat the arrogance out of you today.”

GRAB… A large hand like iron pincers seized his head, jerking the boy awake from his daze.
