Chapter 415: Chapter 415- The Titanic Bones (2)
The glowing mushrooms spread across the cavern floor, their light revealing something massive stretching across the center of this place.

The moment the squires laid eyes on the thing, they opened wide in surprise. The scale of the thing was just too big, causing them to arch their heads up.

“What the hell is that?”

At first, it looked like the meandering edge of a mountain. However, as they got closer, the glow revealed that it was something else.

Smooth, ivory surface, long and ridged, it wasn’t the rock formation they were thinking of; no, it was something more than that, something beyond their knowledge.

Once in front of the thing, they could finally marvel at the sheer size of it. It was staggering, forget about being able to witness its entire length stretching toward the darkness behind, just the part they could see with their eyes was already bigger than any structure they had ever witnessed.

The squires were investigating the thing when, out of curiosity, the noble girl turned her head upside down only to find the thing resembling a carcass of some creature.

“Is that…” Gwen hesitated before speaking out her thoughts… “A bone?”

At those words, the squad stepped closer. Thanks to the luminescence of the fungi that faintly lit the entire chamber, they could make out the shape of it.

And indeed, just like Gwen said, the thing’s form resembled a giant rib curving overhead, connecting to a part of a skeletal ribcage that stretched deep into the chamber behind.

“Impossible,” Rolan murmured, rubbing his eyes. “Whatever this is, no, was, it’s huge. No living creature on record should be of this size.”

“Maybe it’s a mythical beast?” Delicia suggested, similarly a little unnerved.

“Even though many records were lost with time after the demon age, a few were still preserved by humanity to be passed down for future generations. While I was serving the Silver Shield as a knight, during one of our missions into the Tainted Lands, we came across some records left behind by people thousands of years ago inside the labyrinths.”

“It was etched in stone monoliths using ancient runic language. Thankfully, one of our members was slightly knowledgeable in the ancient language and managed to decipher some of it”…

“According to him, the monolith recorded events that happened more than a thousand years ago. The era before the advent of the demons, also known as the era of the gods.”

Delicia’s words managed to capture the attention of everyone.

She continued, “According to those texts, there were beings in a far off land that were bigger than mountains. They had skin as hard as orihalcum, and their roars could shake the sky and create disasters”…

“Of course, there is no way of knowing whether the text was real or just a ploy from the demons who were waiting to ambush us inside the labyrinth at that time. Still, I choose to believe it. After all, if there can be gods in this world, then why not titanic beings? Sadly, we could not retrieve the monoliths.”

Delicia explained the events to her curious juniors, who listened intently.

Kevin said nothing. His eyes were glued to the sight in front of him. For some reason, he felt a faint connection to the bones before him, as if it was trying to pull him in.

“Something… demon didn’t… humans… finding…”

Suddenly, the sword strapped on his back spoke again.

“What did you say?” Kevin arched his brows.

[Tiamat] did not elaborate; instead, it muttered incomprehensible words.

“Strong essence… deep… ancient… familiar.”

“What are you talking about?”

Before he could get an answer, he felt the familiar pull again.

“Not agaaain!!”

The squire cried out. Nevertheless, he lost in that tug of war. The sword carrying him rushed toward what looked like the marrow of the bone.

“Wait… wait… wait.” The last time’s experience was still fresh in his memories. His nose still broken, he didn’t want to kiss a hard surface again.

Even though he struggled, his resistance meant nothing in front of [Tiamat]’s force. It dragged him toward the bones, and for the second time today, he smacked into a wall like surface.

BAM…

“Gagh!! M-My no…se…” the squire cried out. However, there was no time for that. To his amazement, he realized that the sword was suddenly emitting a blinding scarlet light.

The glow enveloped the cavern and caused an unfathomable phenomenon to occur. The ground trembled as if the entire chamber was coming alive after centuries of stillness.

GWROAARRR…

An ancient roar that was different from a demon’s and carried a majestic heaviness to it, rang out from the bones.

And then, in front of the stunned eyes of everyone present, the bones started to become red as if blood had returned to them after eons.

That was not all; cracks appeared on their surface before the entire thing splintered and dissolved into what looked like red liquid veins.

“[Drink it].”

Pardon?

At this moment, the boy who was vertically inclined to the sword suddenly had an ominous feeling. And he was rightfully so, for all that liquid; no, it would be right to call it blood at this point, which could fill a lake, funneled straight into him.

“Gugh.”

It entered through his mouth, his nose, his ears, his eyes, and every pore of his body, assimilating into his system.

“W-What’s going on?” The squires who were caught off guard questioned.

One second, they were mulling over the story they had just heard from Delicia, and the next, the entire cave started to tremble.

The titanic bones began to liquefy and engulf Kevin. The scene could not be any more bizarre.

“Wait, I’m coming to help you.”

Gwen tried to rush in. However, there was an ancient pressure within the blood that prevented anyone from approaching closer.

Gwen had to halt after just taking a few steps. It was the same for the others.

No one could move and could only stare helplessly at the bizarre phenomenon unfolding before their friend.
