Chapter 532: Descent of Nihileum
A golden system window suddenly blinked into existence before Alister’s eyes.

⫷『Warning』⫸

⫷『House Oboros has initiated a Territory Invasion.』⫸

⫷『Quest Progression: House War

Description:

The one who serves as the Death of Purpose has come knocking at your door.

She dares to calm the head of the Overlord of Dragons.

Her master seeks your blood, to claim the Key.

Protect your kin.

Push them back.

Or stand… and lose it all.』⫸

Alister narrowed his eyes slowly but said nothing.

He looked up at the ceiling, but his gaze didn’t stop there. It pierced beyond it.

Far above, in the heavens, the clouds churned.

And there — he saw it.

A strange ripple.

Dark clouds coiling like serpents.

Spreading endlessly across the sky.

From the churning storm above, a castle was descending.

No, not descending.

Falling.

But not like anything mortal hands could build.

It was upside down, a sprawling citadel of inverted spires and jagged bridges, its foundation a swirling, obsidian vortex that seemed to bleed black mist into the clouds around it. Towers twisted downward like fangs, and a blood-red emblem pulsed at its center like a beating heart.

People on the streets looked up — and froze.

Gasps turned to screams. Screams to chaos.

And then they began to fall.

Not the people — but creatures.

Black Crethalas — hulking beasts of shifting shadow vapor, leaping down from the underside of the descending fortress. Their forms were like nightmarish, semi-liquid horrors — spined, hunched, crawling abominations that twisted with every breath.

Some stood upright like demons in shattered armor. Others slithered, dragging their malformed bodies behind them.

And some among them… were dragons.

Or something once like dragons — now cloaked in flowing smoke, shaped by raw hatred and absence of will. Their eyes glowed dimly with void-fire, and their wings were ragged, like the memories of creatures who had forgotten how to soar.

They landed.

And they butchered.

Citizens screamed. Nearby union officers available raised their shields. Attacks were hurled skyward.

It did not matter.

In minutes, people were torn apart in droves — bruising, breaking, bleeding. The streets became rivers. Buildings cracked and splintered. No salvation came.

Until, strangely… the people stopped running.

They just stopped.

Mid-sprint. Mid-scream.

Some union officers suddenly dropped their weapons. Others fell to their knees. A few simply stared blankly up at the inverted fortress above them.

Then came the murmurs.

Whispers.

hopeless whispers.

“What’s the point… they were never going to let us live.”

“Even if we fight… we still die, right?”

“I lost my whole family last time. I don’t want to feel that again… Maybe I should just….”

“The sky itself is against us. Why resist fate?”

“Maybe we were meant to be erased…”

A new system window blinked across Alister’s vision.

⫷『World Event: Descent of Nihileum』⫸

Location Identified: “The Inverted Throne of Oboros.”

⫷『Warning: All those who fall under its shadow suffer a passive debuff — “Abyss-Born Despair.”』⫸

Effect: Willpower is suppressed. Resistance is nullified. Emotional drive collapses. Instinctive surrender to annihilation begins.

The roars of the beasts echoed through every district of the city.

Inside the Grandhall, every Guildmaster present froze as those sounds rolled through the foundations of the building.

Anya, watching the chaos unfold on the high-screen feed, felt her jaw clench.

“What… is that?” she whispered.

Around her, murmurs rose.

“Is that some kind of Kingdom?”

“Who the hell brought that fortress here?!”

All eyes suddenly turned to Aliser.

The screens showed people being torn apart, buildings razed, and the army faltering.

In the White Comets’ reserved seats, Hiroshi stared at the unfolding nightmare — pale, jaw slack.

Then he mumbled, eyes flicking toward Alister:

“Alister… that isn’t one of your dragons, right? …Right?”

Alister said nothing.

He didn’t even look at Hiroshi.

He was still watching the chaos, still watching the citadel in the sky… before slowly turning back toward Kai.

And when he did — his voice was calm.

Quiet.

Cold.

“So this… this was all just the opening act.”

Kai chuckled softly, brushing a stray hair behind his ear as if the city weren’t crumbling.

“Of course,” he said. “Let all of them witness what happens when the Dragon Lord is refused. He has simply decided to punish those who would not kneel—”

But then—

A thunderclap of golden light.

It burst from Alister’s palm like a divine cannon, raw and searing.

BOOM.

Kai was blasted like a ragdoll, golden energy wrapping around him mid-air before hurling him through the marble wall and out of the Grandhall with a shockwave that shattered every window in the room.

The guildmasters ducked.

Anya’s eyes widened.

Hiroshi gasped.

Cinder licked her lips.

Alister’s aura surged, divine flames curling around him like a mantle.

And then he said — to no one in particular:

“I’m not going to entertain this farce anymore.”

Aethel stood frozen, the echo of the golden blast still ringing in his ears. His hand trembled ever so slightly, betraying the unease beneath his stoic face.

Alister’s display of power hadn’t just shattered the wall — it had shattered the illusion of control.

And then—Alister began to walk.

Golden glames curled around his feet like reverent serpents, and the floor beneath him sizzled where he passed.

As he strode past Aethel, he didn’t spare him a full glance—just a flicker of his eye.

“My generals. Heed my orders. Reduce the fools who dared tread upon our lands… to ash.”

The very air seemed to tighten with the weight of his words.

He then glanced back.

“And… Draven enlighten this fool on what happens to those who betray me.”

“Onve you are done with it, Terra compel all family heads present to submit under a soul contract.”

“I have no use for those who won’t. Send the defiant to their graves… And to the Guildmasters.”

He glanced sideways — just enough for the threat to simmer in the minds of those watching.

“Any who gets in my way… dies.”

For a breathless moment, silence reigned.

Even the roar of the distant battle seemed to fade beneath the gravity of his words.

And then—

“Anya.” Alister’s voice softened — just a fraction.

“Follow my sister Miyu to a safe place. I can’t have you—”

But she cut him off.

“Don’t you dare!” Anya’s voice rang out, fiery and defiant.
