Chapter 720: A conversation with Darkia
After everything that had happened between Arabel and the Dark System, which introduced itself as Darkia, it was strange to hear her congratulations on the wedding.

Idan, without hiding the irony, said, “Thank you for the congratulations.” At the same time, he took Arabel’s hand, as if to demonstrate his feelings for her.

At that moment, the waitress came up to them.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Arabel said sheepishly when the waitress’ smile faltered upon seeing the crumpled menu.

“Can I have this, this, and this?” — I ordered Arabel dishes that she has not tried yet, and a drink for herself.

“What do you want?” she asked, turning to Idan.

“It’s the same for me,” Idan replied with a smile.

“Me too,” Darkia suddenly said. “Three servings, please.”

The waitress wrote down the order and, after giving them a strange look, left them alone.

Darkia asked, noticing Idan and Arabel’s gaze. “Unlike other Systems, I can eat like you.”

There was a slight silence. Idan and Arabel stared at Darkia in silence, but Darkia didn’t take her eyes off them, and the smile that hadn’t left her face the whole time seemed a little creepy.

“Darkia,” — Idan broke the silence. “What did you mean when you said you wanted to discuss the upcoming Third Calamity and the future of our world with us?”

“Exactly what I said,” Darkia replied. “But before we get to that, you forgot something.”

“Forgot?” — Arabel tilted her head.

“Didn’t I say that I have a gift?.. or, to be more precise, gifts?” — Darkia reminded. Then, turning to Arabel, she continued: “And, by and large, you will like these gifts, Arabel.”

Instead of making her happy, Darkia’s words made her wary.

“I know what you want, Arabel,” Darkia began, a smile playing on her face. “I’ve seen all this, and I understand how much you want it.”

“And I know that you were unable to carry out your plans because of my existence and the warnings of your System.”

Arabel’s eyes flashed as she realized what Darkia was getting at.

“As a wedding gift, I’m giving you permission to do whatever you want with these two, I won’t interfere,” Darkia said, confirming Arabel’s guess. “Although only one of them is under my influence, the descendant of the Hugh family is not.”

Idan and Arabel were not ready to believe Darkia’s words unconditionally, fearing that it might be another trap.

Despite her doubts, Arabel longed for what she said to be true. After the System was fully activated, she intended to deal with these two, despite the fact that there was a Dark System behind them.

“If Darkia is telling the truth, then Christopher has nothing to do with her, and I can start with him to verify her words,” — Arabel mused.

“As for the Third Disaster, you should already understand that it’s not really some kind of disaster, but only the consequences of the growth of this world?” Darkia moved on to discuss the so-called upcoming Third Disaster.

“Yes, we know,” Idan and Arabel nodded.

“But unlike the previous ones, the upcoming Third Disaster will be special, as the world is ready to enter its middle stage of growth, and its consequences will be much more significant than those of the previous ones,” Darkia said.

“I understand that after everything that happened between us, it’s hard to trust each other. However, I want to offer you an alliance during the Third Disaster so that we can overcome this difficult period together,” Darkia said. “At least for the duration of the Third Disaster, I promise that I will not personally take any action against you or your allies.”

“Just you?” asked Idan, noticing the hidden meaning in her words.

Darkia nodded, “Yes, just me. I assume you already know about my abilities to infect and control other Hosts.”

Idan and Arabel remained silent, not expressing their opinions.

“Heh,” — Darkia grinned, seeing their attitude towards her. She wasn’t angry, but on the contrary, she found it funny.

“I won’t say how many Hosts are under my influence, but I can say one thing: I don’t constantly monitor their actions and don’t tell them what to do. Most of the time they act on their own, and only when I need something, I give them tasks and, if necessary, take control of their bodies.”

“So you’re saying that there might be cases where one of them might turn against us of their own free will?” asked Idan.

“Yes, that’s right,” Darkia nodded. “I want to warn you that similar situations may arise. And if that happens, it won’t be my fault. I’m even willing to sign a contract with your System as another System that I won’t do anything against you.”

[Agree], their System said.

“Of course, I will warn everyone not to take any action against you and your allies, but I cannot guarantee that someone will not disobey and take action,” Darkia added.

These words made Idan and Arabel think.

“Dan, we don’t know anything about the upcoming Third Disaster yet, especially since this is our first disaster. So we should agree,” Arabel said through a mental link.

“I’m also leaning towards this, especially since our System seems to be leaning towards it too. But I still have the feeling that something is wrong here,” Idan replied.

“What exactly is bothering you?” asked Arabel.

“I’m worried about Darkia’s attitude towards us,” Idan shared his doubt. “From the very beginning, her attitude seems too friendly. It’s like we’re good acquaintances, even though she was the one who ambushed you earlier, attracting creatures from other worlds, and tried to capture you.”

“Because of her actions, the relationship between our guild and our allies with the Awakened Association, the Government, and other organizations soured and became almost hostile. Not to mention creatures from other worlds.”

Arabel also noticed the strangeness in Darkia’s behavior, but, unlike Idan, for some reason she did not pay attention to it. Deep down, she believed that Darkia was telling the truth, but she couldn’t figure out why.

“Darkia, tell me, what do you really want? What motivates you?” asked Idan before giving his answer.

“Hehe,” Darkia let out a strange laugh. “How careful. That’s what I like about you.”

“As a System with its own will and desires, I strive for only one thing — to survive. To achieve this goal, I am looking for strength. And this desire has led me to you — to the most powerful Hosts at the moment.” Darkia’s smile widened. “And I won’t hide it: I still haven’t given up on the idea of making you my own. And the fact that I cannot achieve this now only increases my desire to possess you.”
