Chapter 791: Another Beast kingdom
Nox thought about it for a moment. Having it here would mean it was more secure…
All they had to do was build another entrance from here to the outside so the public could access it safely.
Unaware of the danger in his kingdom, he smiled faintly as he declared, “Yes, the Awakening will take place here.”
Luthair let out a long breath he didn’t know he had been holding. “Then… I’ll have my people start preparing immediately.”
The next few days were… hectic, to say the least.
In the beginning, they only allowed selected offspring of knights and trusted nobles to come down and try the Awakening. Luthair wanted to move slowly, to keep things under control.
At least, he tried to.
The honest truth was that once word leaked, there was no such thing as control anymore.
The moment someone came out of the chamber awakened with the new class… everything changed.
When people saw that, they went crazy.
Within a few hours, the entire Tristan Kingdom was buzzing.
“Did you hear? The Goddess of Beast Taming is real.”
“They said there is a statue underground!”
“And if you enter… you can awaken a beast partner!”
“Is it only for nobles?”
“No, I heard even a street vendor awakened one!”
Rumors spread like wildfire. Some of them were exaggerated. Others were outright ridiculous.
Someone even said, “If a newborn baby is placed in front of the statue, they’ll come out as a dragon.”
Jack almost choked when he heard that one. “Where are these people getting this kind of imagination?”
On the first official day of the mass Awakening, the line stretched outside the castle, down the main road, and almost to the second district gate. People stood for hours, some carrying their children on their backs, others holding hands and praying quietly.
To a certain extent, it was chaotic.
But to another extent, it felt… right.
Tristan, which had always been looked down on by other kingdoms, was suddenly becoming the center of attention. Merchants arrived from outside to verify the rumor. Some laughed in disbelief. Others came to mock.
None of them laughed after seeing a child walk out holding a small mutated chick that chirped and puffed smoke around the marketplace.
Luthair himself stood near the entrance on the first day, watching with complicated eyes as his people went in one by one.
He wanted this, but seeing the level of enthusiasm the kingdom received and embraced made him worry a bit.
“Are you sure we shouldn’t slow down the pace?” he asked Nox at one point, voice low. “I have this nagging feeling that the others will make a move soon.”
“They will,” Nox replied without sugarcoating it. “But the world has already changed. The Beast Tamer class is no longer something that can be buried.”
Jack crossed his arms and added,
“Besides, it’s better Tristan is prepared early than staying weak forever.”
The king went silent for a few seconds, then nodded.
“…You’re right.”
From that moment, he stopped hesitating.
He personally ordered the knights to maintain order outside. Food stalls were set up so people wouldn’t collapse while waiting. Temporary tents were raised.
It reached a point where even some nobles complained.
“Your Majesty, this is too much. You’re giving commoners equal access to something so powerful—”
Luthair cut him off with a cold look. “If you have a problem, you can leave the line.”
The noble shut his mouth immediately.
…
By the second day, over a thousand people had awakened the Beast Tamer class.
By the third, the number doubled.
Beasts of all shapes and sizes now roamed Tristan’s streets. Tiny mice with glowing tails, armored boars, floating jellyfish-like creatures made of water, stone owls perched on rooftops, and more.
Children laughed as they chased their companions. Adults studied skill panels with serious faces.
At this point, it was safe to say Tristan Kingdom was no longer the same place it had been a week ago.
Nox used these days to guide the first batch personally, explaining contract basics, simple training drills, and how to share senses with their beasts. He couldn’t stay forever, but at least he laid the foundation.
He also picked out a few talented individuals and had them stay behind as the first “instructors” of Beast Taming. Luthair promised to protect them.
“You’ll be the pillars of this era,” Nox told them.
They didn’t fully understand, but they nodded seriously anyway.
On the fourth night, after the last Awakening session ended, Nox stood alone in the underground chamber with the statue of Terra.
Jack walked in slowly. “We’re leaving tomorrow, right?”
“Yeah,” Nox said softly.
He glanced at the crystal goddess. Her face was serene, almost as if she were watching everything with a faint smile.
“Tristan can handle it from here. If we stay any longer, we might cause more trouble,” Nox added.
Jack shrugged. “Fair enough. Besides, there are still other places waiting for you to scam— I mean, bless them.”
“…I really don’t like how you said that,” Nox muttered.
Jack grinned.
…
The next morning, they said their goodbyes.
Luthair bowed deeply in front of Nox. “Thank you… truly. I don’t know how to repay this favor.”
“Just don’t let anyone steal the future I just gave you,” Nox replied, and then added, “Try not to die. It would be embarrassing to lose the first Beast Tamer kingdom so quickly.”
Luthair gave a dry laugh. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Under the gaze of knights, nobles, and commoners alike, Nox and Jack departed Tristan Kingdom.
As they left through the gates, several kids with newly awakened beasts ran after them, waving.
“Big brother, come again!”
“Show us your dragon next time!”
Nox didn’t answer, but there was a small smile on his lips.
Things were coming together smoothly… perhaps too smoothly, and he was beginning to get worried.
This feeling was familiar… Nox knew something was about to go wrong.
