Chapter 1342: Nathan’s Fear
“Why are you so afraid?”
“Pardon?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion. “Afraid? Afraid of what? Well, I’m certainly scared because I have to face Yog-Sothoth or Azathoth, but it can’t be helped, right?”
Even Fenrir and the others agreed with him. It was normal to be scared when they had to face such a powerful being.
Xolotl, on the other hand, shook his head. “I’m not talking about that kind of fear.”
“No?” Nathan recalled everything else, wondering if there was something that made him afraid. “What am I afraid of? The Death Society? While it’s true that they are scary, I don’t think I fear them.”
Xolotl pointed to his heart. “I’m talking about your family.”
“My family?” Nathan felt something was wrong. “What family?”
“Your family in this world as well as your family on Earth. As you probably already know, I have received a portion of your memory. Although mostly memories of your life here, I still know what kind of person you were before coming to this world.”
“And what is the problem? I have moved on from my past.” Nathan shook his head. He’d gotten away from his father and even imprisoned him. He left his mother.
Although life in the orphanage was not very good, it was much better than his broken home. Besides, he could start fresh and even get enough money to read novels.
His life was just getting better until he got so unlucky and died there.
Still, if he had to answer whether he had moved on from his family… he would answer ‘Yes.’
Xolotl shook his head helplessly. “That’s why I’m saying this is a serious problem. You don’t even realize it is still plaguing you. I might be knowledgeable enough to tell you about what’s wrong with your power, but I’m not an expert in personality.
“Thanks to that lady, I have come to a realization. Do you remember when I told you that you were too much… How do I say it? I don’t know the perfect word to tell you.”
Nathan recounted their argument before. “You meant about the medicine?”
“Yes. Back then, you wanted to give more medicine to others instead of prioritizing yourself. While I can understand your sentiment, it’s still too much.”
“I don’t understand. What do you mean? First of all, Evelyn ended up using less than we expected, right? Besides, it would be good for her to have control over the two elements. If she got stronger, we would have a higher chance of accomplishing our objective.
“At that time, I didn’t consider just the Death Society. I also took the matter of the alien race and the singularity into account,” explained Nathan.
The reasoning sounded logical enough to them. Evelyn was a rare talent, so it wouldn’t be a problem.
Xolotl, on the other hand, pointed his finger at him. “That’s it. You might say to yourself that you are logical, but that’s not logical at all.”
“What do you mean?”
“You are afraid of your family, no, I should say you are afraid of losing your family.”
“Losing my family?” Nathan was confused. Why would fearing losing his family be illogical?
“Because of your family on Earth, you placed much more importance on your current family, meaning your women in this world. For that reason, you forgot one important thing. You are the head of the family.
“While you have an obligation to keep everyone in the family happy, you are in charge. What I’m saying is not about leading the family but protecting the family itself.
“For example, when you made that medicine, you were thinking about giving several to Evelyn and one each to your other women, right?”
“Yes?” Nathan nodded.
“Then, have you considered giving them a different gift instead? It might even be more suitable for them compared to the medicine…”
“!!!” Nathan’s body shook.
“It looks like you have noticed it. This is what I’m talking about. You are logical. I can agree with that, but sometimes, you are using that as an excuse instead of the true reason.
“From time to time, you just want to keep everyone happy by sharing what you have even though it might not be the best thing for both you and them. That makes you illogical.
“You cause yourself to progress slower just to make others happy. Rather than giving your women one vial of medicine, you can search for other medicines or other things that suit them better.
“For example, if you just choose not to give 3 vials to others, these 3 vials can benefit you a lot. You can argue that Selena, Sera, and Flora should receive one because they are manipulating elements, but Alavenya and Noelle won’t be able to get all the benefits from this medicine.
“But you are scared of losing this family. You are afraid that if you end up giving them something else, there might be friction between them.”
Nathan opened his mouth, but no words came out of his mouth. Fenrir and the others were quite surprised. They never really thought about this. After all, they already knew Nathan’s capabilities, so they trusted his judgment.
On the other hand, Xolotl had much higher pride than they did. He was probably the only one who kept thinking about his behavior.
That was why he could figure out Nathan’s problem.
Xolotl added, “I won’t say you can’t give anything to them. In fact, I do encourage it because I know they can be stronger. However, don’t make everyone happy by giving the same thing. You should think about what is best for you first because I know they will be much happier to know that you have fulfilled your own needs first.
“And only then do you think of what is best for everyone. This is what I believe to be logical… and what is supposed to be logical on your part.
“Summoner. I understand your struggle on Earth. I just don’t want you to use yourself as an excuse.”
Nathan could only look down. Xolotl’s words struck deep in his heart.
Xolotl turned around and complained to the other beasts. “All of you are the same. You are Divine Beasts. You are his partners, not his soldiers. Don’t just accept everything from him and be done with it. Slap him in the face if you have to.”
