Chapter 495: The second trial and struggle
Chapter 495

“I-I can’t anym–Kugh!!!” As soon as one of the soldiers showed signs of giving up, the soldier next to him hurriedly knocked him out.

“Move him to the back of the line! Replace him with one of the freshly awakened ones!!!” Wei Jun barked orders like a general leading war.

“Emperors! Cover our back and knock the higher ranks out who have been awake for more than an hour!!!” Wei Jun yelled, turning to the Qi emperors, who had never had someone talk to them that way, but Wei Jun had earned his place.

“I can still go!!!” Luo Li yelled as he changed the crystal that had run out.

“No time to argue!” Wei Jun yelled, and the man who had created trouble with Wei Jun moved and knocked Luo Li out.

“Don’t resist sleep! Don’t resist tiredness! Be at your peak all the time!!!” Wei Jun yelled once again while the soldiers, at least the ones who were awake, yelled ‘YES, SIR’ in response.

“Natasha! Cast sleep on the stubborn ones!!!” Wei Jun turned to Natasha, who was standing next to him, and nodded. “And wake Morial. It’s your turn to sleep.”

Once again, Natasha didn’t argue and did as she was told.

She and Morial were the only high-ranking mages present. Given the scale of the force and how many strong members there were, the other mages brought by the army couldn’t cast such spells. They were the only ones who could do that, so their sleep was much more important to Wei Jun.

“How are you not tired yet?” The ethereal beauty asked. Wei Jun turned to her, looked at her for a few moments, and simply replied, “If your beauty doesn’t work on me, you think this environment would?”

The principle was simple. As they resisted sleep and shook off their tiredness, they fell under the effects even more. So much so that Wei Jun had to devise a strict plan for them to follow, and if they couldn’t, he assigned others to follow that rule.

The only exception to everything was him. He was the only one who wasn’t falling asleep or even feeling tired. Well, given his stats, he could remain awake for weeks, move around for months, and yell like he was yelling for years, but that was something many others present could do.

The artificial effect of the sleep and tiredness wasn’t acting on him. That was the main point.

On the other hand, the ethereal beauty was one such existence. She practiced such cultivation and techniques that made her irresistible to men.

If she were to charm the men there, they would drop everything and follow her every whim. The strong ones might be able to resist to some extent, but that little resistance would be all they would be capable of. The only grace was that the woman could control her charm and, if necessary, could let it out on specific or multiple targets or even a widespread area.

She had tried that, two times, on Wei Jun. However, Wei Jun was unaffected by his beauty. Once in the planning meeting, and the other time when they entered the dungeon.

“You sure are something.” The woman said.

“I think the lady should focus less on me and more on the mission.” Wei Jun straightforwardly said.

“Why? Isn’t it going smoothly?” She asked, instead of being offended.

“You think?” Wei Jun asked.

Sure, with Wei Jun’s guns that were out of everyone’s expectations made the trial was quite easy; it was still very difficult, given everyone was growing tired and sleepy, even with the rest they were getting.

As if confirming his theory, the voice of the trial master fell into everyone’s ears.

“Twenty-four hours have passed!”

“Let’s crank it up a bit!!!”

Just as he said that, the woman next to Wei Jun clutched her head slightly with a low groan. But that was something Wei Jun couldn’t ignore as he asked, “What?”

“I feel a slight headache.” She replied.

“On a scale?” Wei Jun specified.

“I don’t know. Maybe a three?” The woman replied.

Wei Jun’s eyes shot open, and he hurriedly shouted, “All mages! Stop chanting!!!”

But as if he knew it was too late, he immediately pulled a sword out of his inventory, but didn’t apply any Qi or special effect to it, nor to himself. Just his raw strength was enough, and he slashed in the air, shooting air cannons that struck the spells that had just left the hands of the mages.

For the ones he could dissolve, he dissolved them, but for the ones that he couldn’t, such as lightning, he got in the way and took those attacks.

Where were those spells targeted, you ask?

On their own allies.

“Kugh!” Wei Jun groaned as he took some damage, but it was nothing to be too worried about. What he needed to worry about was…

“Natasha! Make all mages go to sleep!!” Wei Jun yelled.

While Natasha was also a mage, her level was quite high, so she didn’t need to chant low-level spells, which was why it didn’t matter.

What happened was that the headache that came once twenty-four hours were up messed up the chant of the mages, changing the spell coordinates and targets. While not all of them changed their direction to their own allies, most of them were, so the casualty rate could have been high since they were unguarded against those attacks.

Natasha immediately acted and knocked all the mages out with her spell.

“Don’t cast spells! Natasha, stick to sleep spells only!”

“Morial! Don’t attack! Conserve your mana!”

“Understood!” Natasha and Morial replied at the same time.

Wei Jun turned to the rest and yelled, “Those who feel lightheaded or pain in their heads also stop attacking and fall back!”

“There’s none in the first squadron!” Luo Li yelled.

“None in the second squadron!” General Shao yelled.

“One in the third squadron!” Xin Huatao yelled.

“Two in the fourth squadron!” An emperor-ranked cultivator yelled.

“None in the fifth squadron!” Another cultivator yelled.

“Move them back!!” Wei Jun yelled as he assumed his position.

“There’d be a breach in formation.” The man said.

“No choice. We can’t have any of them give up!” Wei Jun replied.

Giving up meant giving up on the trial, which was the same as dying. Twenty monsters would be released into the outside world. That was a risk Wei Jun wasn’t willing to take. While it could have all been a bluff, Wei Jun was sure it wasn’t.

“Listen up!” Wei Jun yelled, “Your families are out of this dungeon! But not just those who you love are outside! Those you hate, loathe, and wish to take revenge upon are also outside this gate! Do you want to give up on your revenge and let them die to some monsters, huh?!!!”

“SIR, NO, SIR!” Many of the cultivators yelled.

“Then don’t even think about giving up! If you feel tired, sleepy, or in pain, tell us! But do not! Under any circumstances! Are you allowed to give up? Am I clear?!!!”

“SIR, YES, SIR!!” Once again, yells of acknowledgment resounded throughout the camp, and Wei Jun smiled.

“Then do what you have been doing! Let whatever drives you, and give it your all, and then let others take over! That’s the sole meaning of having comrades! People who have your back!” Wei Jun gave another speech.

They said words didn’t have any effect on the morals of others. That was wrong. Wei Jun knew that better than anyone else. Those words not only woke many up, but also made them realize, their giving up, their giving in to their desires, would not only affect them but millions of people.

None of them were heartless enough to do that.

Just for that day, everyone, even the emperors, acknowledged Wei Jun as a leader and did exactly as he said.

On the other hand, Wei Jun looked at Natasha, who was also looking at him with a smile. Wei Jun smiled back and she mouthed the words, ‘Now you’re being kind.’

Wei Jun froze in his place for a moment and touched his heart. It was beating with the intensity it had never beaten before. Not even when he was in the biggest crisis of his life.
