Stuck in a Chinese novel - Chapter 489
Chapter 489: The burial grounds
Chapter 489
“Are you sure you don’t need me to come?” Yan Rong asked while they were stationed in Fengdu city, preparing to enter the dungeon.
“No. Stay here and deal with the issues here. I know you want to help, but you’re more helpful here.” I told her. Since not everyone was going in the dungeon, it wasn’t like there would be no threats on the outside. Although the gate was a national emergency, guarding the nation was also an aspect everyone needed to keep in mind.
Small level dungeons, or even the terrorists and evil organizations. Everything needed to be kept in mind before taking such a massive force inside the dungeon. That was exactly why Wei Jun was leaving everyone outside except for Natasha and Morial. While no one was as strong as the two of them, Xing Xiaomei and Yan Rong were enough of a force. Xia Lu was also a force to contend with, while the rest of the three girls were to take care of the business.
As for Mark Wilson, the reason he needed to stay out was because of his companion, about whom he was quite silent. She was strong enough to defeat a dragon that even Morial couldn’t, so it was decided to leave Mark Wilson out so he could call such insurance in the case of an emergency. After all, she had only moved so far when he was in danger, not for anything else.
“Sure,” Yan Rong replied before she turned to look at a man who was in the distance, talking with a beautiful woman around Yan Rong’s age.
“Is it him?” Yan Rong asked.
“Yep.” Wei Jun replied.
“I don’t know why you have any sort of enmity with him, but…” Yan Rong turned to Wei Jun and said, “I don’t care for the reason. I’ll make sure to thoroughly destroy them while they’re inside.”
“I knew I could count on you.” Wei Jun said with a soft smile before he kissed her.
“Ahem.” Wei Jun heard a cough from his side and turned to look at Xia Lu, who had a jealous expression on her face as she asked, “Am I your side piece, sir?”
“Haha.” Wei Jun chuckled again before he pulled her and kissed her, catching her off guard. She yelped but didn’t resist much.
Once he was done saying goodbyes, Wei Jun couldn’t help but say, “When I return, I hope the two of you will be prepared.”
“Huh? For what?” Yan Rong asked, but Xia Lu understood what he meant and blushed. Yan Rong understood soon and turned red as well, but before they could react, Wei Jun had already moved and approached Natasha and Morial, who were standing at a distance.
“Let’s go.” Wei Jun said, and both of them followed.
There were hundreds of news channels covering the scene, and soon a whole shebang of speech, courage, and morale began before the long-awaited entrance was commenced. They didn’t know when the dungeon might break, so they prepared themselves as best as they could.
One by one, finally, everyone began to enter. Just for the sake of caution, they went in teams of ten and holding each other’s hands. There had been cases where people who had entered at once ended up in different places, and some even ended up in entirely different times.
So holding each other’s hands was recommended when the threat scale was so large, and in each team, there was a Qi emperor. The total number of cultivators was a hundred, with the lowest of them being the grandmasters, a rank that was fairly held high elsewhere.
Finally, it was Wei Jun’s team to enter, and he was about to hold Natasha’s hand when someone else did so and extended their other hand towards him. Wei Jun looked at the flawless hand and then at the woman who seemed pale yet full of life, who looked back at him with a smile.
Without saying much, giving Morial and Natasha a glance who were about to say something, Wei Jun took her hand and nodded. Morial grumpily held Wei Jun’s hand, but didn’t hold the other guy’s hand, but grabbed his wrist instead.
As they entered, the entire party was assaulted by the usual disorientation of entering a dungeon, and as they entered, they found themselves in a giant temple. A temple so large and dark with blue candle flames burning on the walls, and large pillars. Other than that, there was nothing else. No statues, no altars, no accessories or items of any sort.
[That’s strange]
‘What is?’ Wei Jun asked.
[I was pretty much sure this place would have a connection to the Central Plains since it opened up in the same exact spot where the Shanxi region was]
‘Pretty much sure is not technically sure.’
Wei Jun didn’t take it out on the overseer. It wasn’t like all probabilities of the overseer were going to be absolutely correct. There was always a chance something else could have happened, and Wei Jun had learned that lesson ever since he came to that world.
[You’re right]
[But then that would mean it is something entirely different]
‘Any idea what this place is?’ Wei Jun asked.
[Idea?]
[I can give you one better]
[I know what this place is]
‘Where?’ Wei Jun asked.
[The burial grounds of the Ashguard Imperial family]
[A family of lunatics, I say]
‘Why? Were they evil?’ Wei Jun asked.
[Quite the contrary]
[They were the human apostles of the Supreme, Arya]
[They wielded the holy elements and rid the land of evil powers such as vampires, necromancers, and anything related to evil]
‘So they were good?’ Wei Jun asked.
[Very much so]
[But they were also lunatics, you know]
[Their torture techniques were so brutal that evil creatures who feared nothing trembled]
[They would prefer death to be tortured by them]
[The reason why I called them lunatics is because they were very good at what they did and the smile they carried when they did something good was not the smile of a good person]
[Anyway, that’s another story]
[The burial grounds of the Ashguard imperial family are an entirely different story]
[Before it went extinct, the Ashguard imperial family existed for 200,189 years]
[Their rulers lived for about a thousand years on average, so that’s quite a long lineage]
[About 20,000 of them are buried here, in this temple]
‘Don’t tell me they’re all going to wake up and fight us?’
[No]
[That is not the theme of this dungeon]
[Besides, they’re impervious to magic anyway, so they cannot be resurrected or raised from the dead]
[Even by your skill]
‘Then what is the theme of this dungeon?’ Wei Jun asked.
[I’ll tell you when we get there]
[For now, keep your eyes and ears open because you’re going to be in trouble if you don’t pay attention here]
‘Sure.’ Wei Jun replied and then focused on the dungeon. The place where they had appeared had everyone. No one had been separated, and there was no time difference as well.
Everyone got together, but before any meeting could be held to decide what’s going to happen next, everyone heard a voice, “Welcome, Travelers.”
[Invasion of the user’s mind has been detected]
[Would you like to block it?]
[YesNo]
‘What’s this now?’ Wei Jun thought, but before he could decide, the overseer said…
[Say ‘No’]
[That is the only way to converse with him]
[Don’t worry]
[He can’t read your mind]
‘No.’ Wei Jun didn’t question the overseer and simply replied to the system. The system acknowledged his decision, and nothing changed.
However, panic spread throughout the crowd. After all, there were very few who could invade their minds so easily, especially the minds of people who were very strong even among all of them.
“HAHAHA!!! Are you scared?!!!”
“Tell me! Tell me!”
“Are you?!!!”
“HAHAHA!!!”
“Did I sound like God or what?!!”
“HAHAHAHA!!!”
“You scaredy cats!!! HAHAHA!!!!”
However, the panic soon dissipated when they heard the mockery in the voice. Although they couldn’t see who it was and couldn’t pick up anything at the moment, while they were still on guard, they deduced it had something to do with the theme of the dungeon.
“Who are y—?” The man who had picked up a fight with Wei Jun during the briefing was about to ask what was on everyone’s mind when…
“Ah Ah Ah..” The voice said before the voice coming out of the man’s mouth ceased entirely, “No questions in my presence. Only instructions. Understood?”
“…”
Everyone remained silent. If someone could silence an emperor-ranked cultivator, then that existence was not something to offend. Even the man understood it, and despite his hot-headed personality, he simply nodded.
“Good! Then now, shall we begin?!!”
“Welcome to the temple of the afterworld, where great heroes are buried along with treasures to make you beings that not even gods would be able to do anything about you!!!”
“Welcome to the temple of Dahàr!”
“Without getting so much into it, let us begin with the first trial!”
With that said, the ground began to shake violently, but strangely, no one fell.
[Haa…]
[He’s still the same]
[Getting into everything without properly explaining]
‘What? You know who it is?’ Wei Jun couldn’t help but ask as he grabbed Natasha and Morial just in case.
[Yeah]
[That’s Xavier Von Ashguard]
[My brother-in-law]
‘What?’ Wei Jun asked, but just as he did, the ground stopped, and where he found himself was nothing but a desert.
[Welcome, host]
[To the first trial of the Dahàr]
[The trial of thirst]
