Chapter 481: Saviors?
Chapter 481

“Dragon Thunder Art!”

“Rising Lightning Dragon!!!”

A multitude of attacks fell on the dark figure, and destruction arose. The smokescreen caused by those attacks was so dense that no one, even cultivators, had trouble seeing through it. But cultivators never saw through their eyes.

They always saw through their senses.

And right now…

‘I can’t sense him.’ Xin Huatao, the strongest cultivator present, a master at the final commander realm, thought. Even with his monstrous senses and him being at the seventh rank of cultivation, a rank that was beyond the common sense of a human and at the verge of entering the realm that would decide the fate of this world with his hands, and yet he could not sense a figure in that dense smokescreen.

Just that was enough to speak volumes about the figure that had appeared.

Just then, the smokescreen settled, and the figure appeared in view. Just as it was, with no signs of damage on it, the man behind the mask stood in the middle of the air, unscathed and unbothered.

But, as he appeared in their sights, they could see him again. Xin Huatao could see him again. But he still couldn’t sense him.

‘He’s before me, yet I can’t… A master!’

Xin Huatao was baffled. That was not a man who should have appeared in his city yet. That was not someone whom he had called over or instigated to appear to make him a hero.

That being was someone else. Someone he didn’t know. Someone who never appeared in the novel.

[A sudden quest has arrived]

[The herald of Death]

[Rank: SSS]

[Description: An unknown variable has infiltrated the world of the villain

Something that was not supposed to happen is happening, and the host is in danger due to that

[Task: Defeat the Herald of Death]

[Reward:

#1: A master level trait

#2: Complete mastery of Stock trading

#3: All stats +1000]

[Punishment: Unknown]

A chill ran through Xin Huatao. A quest with such rewards meant only one thing. It was hopelessly difficult. To obtain one Master level trait, Xin Huatao had to kill three protagonists, and only then was he eligible to obtain a master card, yet the masked figure before him was not only worth one master card but also a complete skill update and all stats increased by a thousand.

“Evacuate!” He hurriedly spoke and jumped at the figure, but the figure vanished from his view the next moment, and he heard several grunts from his surroundings. He looked around and saw that all the politicians, along with the mayor of the city, were dead, and the man stood quite close to him with the head of the mayor in his hand.

Xin Huatao stopped. A sword appeared in his hand, a katana with intricate patterns on it.

“Who are you?” Xin Huatao asked.

“The mask should have given you an answer.” The man said in a monotonous voice that couldn’t be recognized as whether it belonged to a man or a woman.

“But you just told me your objective.” Xin Huatao said as he looked at the dead politicians.

“If you’re stalling for your shadow guards and companions to come, then don’t bother.” The masked man said as he threw the head in Xin Huatao’s feet, who stopped the rolling head with his left foot and looked at the masked man with a threatening expression.

“…” Xin Huatao remained silent but tried to use his system’s function to contact his companions, but no matter what he did, he couldn’t contact his companions.

“Is your system malfunctioning?” The masked man asked.

The only problem was that his voice was right next to Xin Huatao.

Clang!

Their swords clashed as Xin Huatao managed to move at the right moment, but even then, it was difficult for him to stop that strike. The man before him wasn’t just strong, he was experienced as well.

Something Xin Huatao severely lacked.

Clang!

Clang!

Dong!

{A.N: For convenience, I’m gonna write the masked man as Wei Jun since we all know who it is. But Xin Huatao doesn’t, so you’ll see dialogues related to that.}

Their swords clashed at different and strange angles. Wei Jun managed to deflect every strike, but even with his skills at the master level, Xin Huatao was having a hard time blocking Wei Jun’s attacks.

“Damn it!” Xin Huatao yelled and released a wave of his Qi to push the relentless Wei Jun away, but little did he know…

[Will of the roaring dragon]

An attack even more devastating was emitted from Wei Jun and pushed Xin Huatao away, along with his burst of Qi. Xin Huatao, however, managed to collect himself and stood straight after just being moved a few feet away. The ground beneath them, though, was a different story. Not only was it completely destroyed, but the dead bodies around them were splattered into fine-diced meat as well.

The worst part was…

“This is live from K-News. The scene you see below…”

“Tch.” Xin Huatao clicked his tongue as he looked at the news helicopter in the air, live broadcasting the scene from up above in the sky. While it could have been good publicity since he stood alone against a terrorist, it wasn’t so when they were declaring their independence from the military and now the politicians pursuing that dream were dead and not only that, the clash brought by the terrorist and the hero was resulting in the destruction of the city.

“I wonder if this is enough.” Wei Jun said in the same monotonous voice as earlier to avoid being recognized, and Xin Huatao was now even more sure of his plan.

To plummet their public view.

If it dropped any further, they would lose more than just public support.

“You think I’ll let that happen!” Xin Huatao yelled as Qi accumulated on his sword, and he slashed it at Wei Jun.

“Now that’s what I call a bad move.” Wei Jun said as he moved out of the way and the slash traveled forward until…

“Move!” The broadcaster yelled, but it was too late. The helicopter was hit in the tail but Xin Huatao’s attack, and it was going down.

“Now that would be enough.” Wei Jun said with a smirk and began to walk away as if he knew he wouldn’t be attacked in the back.

“Damn it!” Xin Huatao once again yelled and ignored the masked man and jumped at the falling helicopter. Not only was it falling, it was going to fall on the civilians. If it did crash-land, it would be a massive dent to his image.

But…

Bam!!!!

Someone else beat him to it. A man in a military uniform and the stars on his uniform relayed his rank. A commander ranked military officer.

Luo Li appeared in the nick of time and caught the helicopter from its destroyed tail and blasted Qi from his left hand to propel them away from the citizens.

It worked perfectly, and he managed to save the citizens and the news broadcasters. However…

“Kugh!!!” He was attacked before he could even take a breather. He looked up to see the masked man floating before him. Luo Li immediately gathered most of his Qi and attacked the masked man to push him away, which managed to hit the masked man, and he was blasted quite a bit far away, landing just a few feet away from the initial attack site.

Once again, a smokescreen arose, and no one could tell what was happening. The camera crew was still rolling, and as the dust settled, a bloodied and battered figure appeared in their view.

The long overcoat the man was wearing was nowhere to be seen, and the black pants were tattered in various spots. The mask on his face was broken in half, and his lips could be seen.

“Cough!!”

The man coughed up blood as he tried to move. Seeing him in that state, everyone thought it was over, but just to be sure, Luo Li jumped at him with his Qi blaring, and everyone could tell what was going to happen.

But…

“Teleport.” The man spoke, and he disappeared from the spot. Luo Li couldn’t stop his attack and crashed into the place where the masked man was just before, but all was for naught.

The man was gone.

Seeing that, the most devastated person there was none other than Xin Huatao. As he looked around, the people were slowly arising from their stupor and were connecting the dots.

And soon enough, one man in the crowd yelled…

“Our protectors!!! The MILITARY!!!”

And as if a chain reaction was waiting to happen, the rest of the citizens followed along, making the organization they were just cursing a few minutes ago into a hero who

protected them at the cost of their lives.
