Stuck in a Chinese novel - Chapter 477
Chapter 477: Special Past?
Chapter 477
“…” Wei Jun remained silent even at the mention of his name. Although he was a little surprised, as it was a fact to be surprised about, he was more interested, or curious, or perhaps a little afraid of one other fact.
Wei Jun looked at the man on the throne, and the man on the throne looked at him. In the end, the man’s patience showed as he sighed and said, “Fine. You win.”
“I dramatically said your name to throw you of course, but to think you would be so unfazed. Were you born a robot or what?” The man asked as he stood up, and the scene around them changed.
Wei Jun didn’t know what that place was, but he was sure of one thing. It was his world. The modern world from which he came.
“So you want me to begin from the beginning, huh?” The man asked as he gestured for Wei Jun to look in a certain direction. Wei Jun turned to look at the scene and saw a high school building in a small town with a strength of no more than 500.
“The story begins with a very, very ordinary boy. So ordinary he would fade into the background if not for his fierce personality. Well, useless is what I’d say it is.” The man narrated while the doors of the high school snapped open and two ambulance operators brought a boy out on a stretcher.
The scene changed immediately, but this time, the change was a bit too drastic. There was no sign of the modern world from before. This time, a woman was screaming in a bed, in a dimly lit room with many, many women running about, catering to the woman.
Wei Jun calmly observed the scene and finally heard a cry. The cry of a baby.
“The boy went to another world, born special, one could say.” The man said once again, but this time, Wei Jun could sense something in the man’s voice.
Regret.
“He was special in a very special way, you know. The harbinger of Death. His very journey began with death.” The man spoke while the women in the room began to urgently check the woman who had just given birth, panic surging throughout the room.
In one corner, the cry of the baby could be heard, while in the other corner, the cry of a man, whom Wei Jun could only presume to be the husband of the woman, could be heard.
The woman was dead, was all Wei Jun could deduce.
‘He must have really loved his wife.’ Wei Jun presumed.
“He definitely did,” The man replied.
The husband then stood up, with shaky steps, he walked over to the baby boy and looked at him with tears in his eyes, and with trembling hands, he picked him up and hugged him gently.
Wei Jun turned to look at the man who brought him there and could see the sadness he had witnessed on his face before.
“I name you, Bryce Stone. You shall be the memory of my beloved Armilla.” The husband softly said.
The scene abruptly changed once again.
This time, it showed a couple of boys, one boy, particularly standing out, getting beaten by the other boys. He was bloodied and bruised from various places, but the boys hitting him didn’t stop. They were yelling some profanities, but Wei Jun couldn’t hear what they were saying.
All he was focused on was the yelps of pain and mercy from the boy.
“In a world where blessings decided your fate, your status, and your treatment, those born without one were better than those who were born with a useless one. Even if your father was a king, and you were a prince, your treatment wouldn’t be… cruel.” The man standing next to Wei Jun said.
“So he was born with such a blessing?” Wei Jun asked as he looked at the beaten boy.
The boys who had hit him had left, and the boy was on the floor, panting and groaning in pain. Wei Jun couldn’t make out much of what the boy was saying, but he could pick up one line, “Nothing has changed. I’m not special.”
Wei Jun felt a stinging pain in his heart for some reason, but he didn’t know what it was or how he was supposed to deal with it. He looked at the man standing next to him, who didn’t have a pained expression on his face this time.
The only expression he could pick up was…
“Don’t misunderstand. He didn’t hate those kids. He was mature enough to know they were just kids.” The man said when he felt Wei Jun’s gaze on him.
“So you’re saying ‘he’ did nothing?” Wei Jun asked. Although he had said ‘He’, his real question was pointed at someone else.
“Oh, no, he did. He became a menace to society.” The man spoke with a chuckle before the scene once again changed.
“But that’s a story for another time.” The man said as he turned to look at the shivering boy who was in a damp, dark cave, looking around in fear. Wei Jun didn’t need to be explained how the boy ended up there, but he had one question to ask the man.
“That blessing. What was it?” Wei Jun asked.
“And here I thought you were more of a jock.”
Wei Jun rolled his eyes at the man’s remark and asked, “What was it?”
The man smiled softly and said, “Why don’t you see for yourself?”
“Are you alone too?” Wei Jun heard the boy say. Wei Jun turned to him, but he could see no one else in the cave. He couldn’t feel anything either. He couldn’t see who the boy was talking to, but he could tell, the boy’s fear had strongly diminished.
It was as if in an instant, he wasn’t alone anymore. The world wasn’t lonely. His pain was no longer there.
Wei Jun had felt that before. A feeling of security that was different from a parent’s protection. The joyful feeling of having a friend.
Although Wei Jun never had a friend before, his brother was always there to fill that spot. He could pick up the same relief from the boy who was looking into a dark space and talking as if he were conversing with a friend.
But suddenly…
A wave of fear passed through Wei Jun. Wei Jun’s eyes couldn’t even shake, let alone move to focus to see who it was. Who was the boy talking to?
But he didn’t have to. The figure that the boy was conversing with. The figure of a giant being came into Wei Jun’s view.
Frozen in place, Wei Jun could only see the majesty of the creature. The size he had never seen before. Even Guardian, the great dark elder dragon Wei Jun had come across, wouldn’t compare in size to the dragon before him.
No, Guardian felt more like a child compared to the dragon before him.
“What’s your name?” Oblivious to the fear emanating from the dragon and picked by Wei Jun, the boy asked the giant dragon whose fingernail was the size of a ten-story apartment building.
No reply came, but it was as if the boy could pick up the answer.
“You don’t have a name? That’s a pity. Hey, how about I name you?” The boy asked. It was as if the fear coming out of the dragon in the form of the invisible pressure was applicable to everyone except for the boy.
“Conversation with animals. That was his blessing.” The man standing next to Wei Jun spoke.
“How about…” Before Wei Jun could even properly register the man’s words, the boy spoke once again, “Anderssen?”
A chill traveled across Wei Jun’s entire being as he heard that name. He had heard it before, many, many times. And it was safe to say he was overly familiar with it.
Whoosh!
Before Wei Jun could say anything, no, saying wasn’t possible for him anyway, before he could even think, the scene once again changed, and Wei Jun fell on his knees.
“Haa… Haa… Haa…” Wei Jun took deep and long breaths. The pressure of the giant dragon was no longer acting on him. He was safe from it.
But…
“That happens to those who see Anderssen in his true form. He’s terrifying after all.” The man nonchalantly spoke as he began to walk.
Wei Jun, still on his knees, raised his head to look at the man, all sweaty and still a little out of breath. The man ignored his condition and simply said, “Come on. It’s time to see why you’re here. You must have gotten an idea by now, right? It’s time you see it with your own eyes.”
Ignoring Wei Jun, the man kept walking. Faced with no other choice, Wei Jun collected himself and stood up. He could feel fear later. He was more curious about what he would see now.
