Chapter 518: A Compromising Deal
Jason turned off the [Land of Lost Shadows], and they reappeared in the middle of the large town that they had been fighting in. There were multiple broken buildings, and Jason could hear the sound of crying from the distance, and he knew that their battle must’ve killed a lot of people. Jason had taken the fight into the shadows partly because he didn’t want to cause any serious damage to this town, but even though they only fought for a few seconds here, there were still casualties. Jason let out a small sigh as he accepted that he was partially at fault for this, but there was nothing he could do. He would leave a few magic crystals behind, and hopefully, that would allow them to get back on their feet.

Jason started talking to Gina about what they were going to do next, but unknown to both of them, there was a signal that suddenly sparked to life within Yelena’s head. Right before she died, Yelena had stored a massive amount of data within a small signal in her head. She had been planning to send this signal to the Machina so that they would understand more of what Jason’s abilities were, but the Shadow World had blocked her from being able to send it, and Jason’s erasure of the concept of electricity had also affected her. But now that they were back in the real world, the signal block had vanished, and the concept Jason imposed on the shadow world had also been erased, so the signal travelled from Yelena’s storage and moved to the closest Machina outpost, and it is this signal that the Machina would use in preparing their next attack against Jason and Gina.

….

[Radagan]

Riyala stood in a large meeting room in the Radagan Royal Palace, along with multiple members of the Radagan council as well as her father, the king. Normally, Riyala was not meant to be here. She was the priestess, so her place was in the Flaming Forest of Radagan, but the past few weeks had been very demanding for her, and she constantly found herself having to come here for diplomatic meetings and interventions far too many times. But today, Riyala was standing here for something far more important than any other diplomatic meeting! Riyala was currently standing in front of the emissary from the Machina, and she had just told him that she had not yet decided if she was willing to hand over the Yellow Ash Mountains to the Machina or not. And from the look on the man’s face, Riyala could tell that he was furious!

“The Overlord has been gracious enough to grant you an opportunity to repay your debt without incurring significant setback to yourself or your people, and you’ve decided to be difficult about it? Is this really the wisdom of the Priestess of Fire that I’ve heard so much about?”

The Emissary spoke with a condescending tone that made it obvious that he regarded Riyala as someone lower than him. Even though on the hierarchy of leadership, as the head of a Rank III world, Riyala was higher than the Emissary, but the Emissary didn’t seem to care at all! Riyala took in a breath to calm her annoyance, and she spoke to the Emissary in an even tone!

“I apologise for the delay, but – as I am sure you are aware – things have not been very straightforward as of late. With Jason Marc being branded as an Enigma, as well as the cultural importance of the Yellow Ash Mountains to my people, it is just not possible for me to come to a decision immediately. I will consult my cabinet and report back to you at the soonest convenience.”

The Emissary scowled at Riyala’s fake courtesy! The Emissary knew that she didn’t like him, so seeing her treat him like she gave a damn about his opinion just made it seem like she was looking down on him. But the Emissary wasn’t going to be bothered by that. They were going to get those Yellow Ash Mountains one way or another. If the Priestess was depending on Jason Marc reaching Riyad before making a decision, then she was going to be seriously disappointed when they capture and kill that foolish Earthling! The Emissary turned around angrily and spoke to Riyala just before leaving.

“It has already been three days since the meeting in the Stone Catacombs, and we have been extremely patient with you. You have till the end of this week to make a decision. If you have not sent us a response by then, then we will assume that you do not wish to strike this deal, and we will come to collect our payment in full. For your sake, I hope you are wise enough to make the right choice.”

Doom!

A Dimensional Tear ripped through space as the Emissary released a large amount of mana, and he walked through and left Riyala alone in the meeting room. Once he was gone, Riyala released a tired breath and finally allowed her head to drop.

‘Well done, child.’

A voice suddenly floated through Riyala’s mind, and Riyala felt a smile grow on her lips as she responded.

‘Thank you, Rumunaga. Your presence is what gives me the strength to continue on.’

Riyala still did not understand why Jason did not want her to give the Yellow Ash Mountains to the Machina, and honestly, if not for Jason’s insistence, then Riyala would have seriously considered giving it up! But after Riyala spoke to Rumunaga and Rumunaga told her that he also didn’t want her to give up the Yellow Ash Mountains for any reason, Riyala realised that this was serious and she made up her mind that she wasn’t going to allow the Machina to set foot on that land, no matter what! Right now, Riyala was simply trying to use this situation to buy as much time as possible for Jason and Gina. The two of them had been gone for three days now, and Riyala hadn’t heard anything from them yet, but she knew that they were alive, and she also knew that the Machina had still not captured them, so Riyala was simply going to continue to waste time until she got some sort of good news from them!

“Priestess, perhaps we should consider giving the land to the Machina. We all know that that land is rich with resources, but we have multiple other mines that we can depend on while we lease this out.”

The King came up from the side after he saw that Riyala was done talking to the Emissary, and he spoke in a respectful tone. Riyala could see the sense in what he was saying, and if not for all the warnings that she had gotten, then she might’ve even been thinking like him, but Riyala just shook her head and told the king that it was not possible.

“That land is not to be touched by any foreign power. It is ours, and we will hold onto it and leave it for our children.”

The King saw the resolve in the Priestess’s eyes, and he immediately knew that he wasn’t going to convince her to let go of that land. So he brought up a new angle.

“Then perhaps we can offer them some other piece of land. That is not our only mine, so if it is Dragonstone that they want, would it not still be suitable to give them another mine instead?”

Riyala actually frowned at this and her next words shocked the king.

“I already offered them three other mines in various locations, and they turned down all three.”

The King’s eyes widened in shock once he heard this, and Riyala couldn’t really blame him.
