Chapter 409: The Hierarchy of Power
“Madam Fredrica! There’s been a change to the Director’s location! Look!”

Someone quickly ran up to Fredrica from the side, and Fredrica turned sharply when she heard what the man said! She collected the tablet that the man gave her, and she looked at the map on the screen with a hard gaze. There was a single red dot blinking gently on the part of the map that displayed the American Embassy in China, and Fredrica felt her brow furrow in shock as she realized what this meant! Cersai was back in China! Does this mean Jason already let him go!? Fredrica immediately told the man to get her a phone and a direct link to the American Embassy in China, and he quickly ran off to do that! He came back a few seconds later with the phone and spoke.

“Ma’am, it’s ready! Director Cersai is already on the line.”

Fredrica took the phone and spoke quickly.

“Sir, are you there?”

Cersai hummed from the other side of the phone before he spoke in a calm tone.

[Yes, Fredrica. I’m here. Thank you for your swift response, but I think it’ll be best for you to withdraw your troops.]

Fredrica could hear the tiredness in Cersai’s voice, and Fredrica could only wonder what had happened inside that house!

On the other side of the phone, Cersai was lying on a hospital bed with a single bright light shining down on his chest, and there were three superhuman Runecasters walking around him with various magical texts in their hands. They were all focused on the rune that Jason had crafted into his chest, and they were currently trying to figure out the best way to get rid of the rune without killing Cersai in the process.

Fredrica spoke with concern in her voice.

“Sir, are you sure about this? What Jason Marc just did is a violation of various national laws. We can take him into custody and have him incarcerated for this!”

Fredrica was righteously angry at what Jason just did! Abuse of power was the one thing that Fredrica hated more than anything else, and she knew that what Jason had just done was the most blatant abuse of power that she had ever seen! If they didn’t do something about Jason’s actions today, then they would be telling Jason that it was okay to keep acting like this, and it would end up very badly since they would no longer have any control over him! But Cersai just huffed from the other side of the phone, and Fredrica felt shock pass through her when she heard his next words.

[Jason is already too far gone, Fredrica, and his power is beyond what we can handle right now, so there is no way we can bring him to heel. Withdraw your troops and save yourself the trouble. I’ll think of a way to deal with Jason, but until then, you are to do nothing. Do you understand?]

Fredrica couldn’t believe that Cersai was really going to let this slide like this! Jason had literally kidnapped Cersai from right inside his bedroom and taken him away like some sort of petty kidnapper! This wasn’t normal! It was the same as taking the president of a fucking country away and not having any repercussions at all! In fact, this was far worse than kidnapping the president of a country! Cersai’s position as the head of Gaia gave him more power than most presidents would ever have! Were they really just going to ignore this!?

Fredrica bit the inside of her mouth as she turned to glare at Jason’s house! Just knowing that Jason was right in front of her and yet she could do nothing at all just made the anger that she felt grow even worse! It felt like she would run mad from her anger! But Fredrica knew that Cersai was right. Even with all the firepower that she had brought here to try and rescue Cersai, she couldn’t do anything at all! The weapons and the superhumans were incapable of getting past the defenses around Jason’s house, and Fredrica was sure this wasn’t the real extent of Jason’s power. If they tried to take Jason on in a straight fight, then they would definitely lose.

[Fredrica, did you not hear my orders? I said move out.]

Cersai’s voice came through the phone again, and Fredrica let out a harsh breath before she finally responded.

“Yes, sir. Moving out.”

Cersai cut the phone once Fredrica responded, and Fredrica gave the house one last look before she turned and shouted for all the agents and superhumans to move out! They were all shocked by her orders since they thought that they would at least be arresting Jason today, but they couldn’t argue against her words, and they simply turned their trucks around and moved out of the street.

Back inside the house, Jason was leaning back on the couch in his living room. His head was resting on the backrest, and he was staring at the ceiling with a faraway look in his eyes as he thought through what he had just done. Jason knew that he did the right thing. In the short time since Jason had known Cersai, Jason had never been given a single reason to trust him. Cersai had put Jason’s family in danger, and he had almost destroyed entire populations just for his own goals. Jason just couldn’t trust the bastard. Even though Cersai was fighting the good fight and Jason knew that Cersai’s end goal was the same as Jason’s own, Jason couldn’t allow him to keep doing what he wanted.

But in a way, Jason also respected Cersai to a degree. The entire reason why Cersai was willing to go to such extreme lengths was because he wanted to protect the world. His only goal in life was to make sure that humanity survived for as long as possible. If he needed to kill twenty million people to save the remaining eight billion, then Cersai would do it without a second thought. But Jason also knew that the same thing applied to him and his family. Jason knew that if Cersai ever thought that killing Jason or Jason’s family would be beneficial to his goals, then Cersai wouldn’t hesitate to do it.

That was the reason why Jason had to put some sort of leash around Cersai’s neck. Cersai was too dangerous to be left alone, so Jason needed to make sure he was aware of the hierarchy in their relationship. Jason wasn’t going to interfere in anything that Cersai was doing to try and help humanity, so long as it didn’t go too far. But if Cersai ever went behind Jason’s back and did something that would affect him or his family negatively, then that would be the end of that bastard. Jason looked down at the chains that formed on his left hand, and he could feel the magical connection that this chain had to the chain around Cersai’s heart. If Jason wanted to kill Cersai, all he would need was a single pulse of mana and a thought. It was a twisted power to have over someone else, but it was necessary.

‘No wonder they banned this in T’laina. Having this much power over someone else’s life is too much power for any one person. It’s just like making them your slave.’

Jason felt his eyes narrow at this thought, and he stood up to go to the bedroom for some rest. He still had to check on his guild members later, but he hadn’t gotten any bad news from his subordinates, so he decided to leave them for later. For now, he needed to rest.
