Chapter 408: The Road to Tyranny
‘How in the world did Jason learn to do this? This is high-level runecrafting. It shouldn’t be possible for him to have gotten this good at runecrafting already!’

Cersai looked up at Jason in both shock and dread. There were many things that Cersai knew about the Primordial Expanse, and Cersai also knew that the title of Runecaster was something that only very few people in the Primordial Expanse could hold! Drawing runes was one of the most difficult things you could ever practice, and it would take months of practice to even learn some of the simplest runes! So the fact that Jason was able to learn something like this after only discovering magic a few weeks ago was completely insane to Cersai! What sort of monster had they been neglecting all this time!? If Cersai knew that things would have turned out like this, then he would have put Jason under his control when he still had the chance!

Cersai narrowed his eyes at Jason as he thought about what he could do now, but he eventually turned away tiredly and finally slouched back to sit on his knees while releasing a tired breath. There was a sense of calm finality around Cersai, and Jason knew at that moment that Cersai finally understood that the power balance had shifted. Jason held Cersai’s life in his hands now, so if Cersai did anything out of line, he would die with a single thought.

Jason spoke up while leaning calmly against the wall.

“In the grand scheme of things, I know your role is a necessary one, and you might be extreme, but your heart is in the right place. Your only desire is to protect this world, and for that, I respect that about you. But you need to realize that I am not your enemy, Cersai. I have seen more of the Primordial Expanse in the past few weeks than you have all your fucking life. Our world is now on the radar of some dangerous people, and you need to work with me if we’re ever going to have any chance of winning against the monsters out there. You need to wake the fuck up and realize that our enemies are no longer here on Earth. They’re out there, and they’re coming for us.”

Jason knew that he could just kill Cersai right now and get rid of all the trouble, but even though Cersai was an extremist, Jason also knew that he was a necessary piece of the world’s puzzle. Cersai had many connections, and his reach in government wasn’t something to overlook. Killing Cersai would be the same as removing a very powerful player from the board, and Jason couldn’t do that. It was a lot smarter to simply make sure that you had control over that player and make sure that he fell in line, and that was what Jason planned to do.

Cersai didn’t look like he was going to respond to Jason, and Jason clicked his tongue and pushed off the wall.

“Get him out of here.”

Jason said this to the phantoms standing around Cersai, and one of them grabbed Cersai and prepared to fall into the shadow, but before they could take Cersai away, Cersai left Jason with a few words.

“I have seen much pain and suffering around the world, but along with this, I’ve also seen many dictators who would do anything to hold power over others. Twisted men who claim to be saviors, even while their own actions bring about the death of millions. And the one thing that is similar in all of them is that they all start off with great power and good intentions. I’ll work with you like you asked, Jason, and I’ll give the people back their memories, but the road to dictatorship is a slippery slope that no one can predict. And from what I’ve seen, you’re standing at the very edge of that slope. You might think you’re looking out for humanity, but I hope you don’t become the very evil you claim to despise, Jason Marc.”

Jason turned to look at Cersai with a scowl, and the two men remained in a heated stare-down for a few seconds. Cersai could see that there was a hint of irritation deep in Jason’s eyes, and it showed that Cersai’s words had pissed him off. But Cersai just kept his heavy gaze fixed on Jason since he wanted to make sure his words sank in. Cersai knew that the power dynamics had shifted, and he knew that there was nothing they could do against Jason. Jason was so powerful now that he could probably end Gaia if he wanted to, and there was nothing they could do to stop him. But at the same time, Cersai was trying to make sure Jason knew that the path he was walking was a dangerous one. There were many men who claimed to be saviors and ended up becoming tyrants themselves. If Jason wasn’t careful, he would also end up just like the rest.

Jason clicked his tongue and spoke up in irritation.

“Get him the fuck out of my sight.”

Jason turned away after he said this, and he sensed Cersai being taken away by one of his phantoms. Jason went to sit on the couch, and he grabbed another rune paper to continue practicing a new rune. He didn’t even bother to give Cersai’s final words a second thought.

….

Outside the building, many agents from Gaia were stuck in a brutal standoff against some of Jason’s most powerful subordinates. Azrael, Jaraht, and the Sovereign had been put outside the building as guards, and even though they weren’t using close to half of their full power, it was still impossible for anyone to get past them! Azrael had created a massive magical barrier that covered the entire house and prevented anyone from getting close to the house, and the Sovereign was simply standing in front of the building with his left hand on his sword hilt. His mana was flowing out from his body in a calm wave, but there was such an intense aura coming off his body at that moment that all the agents and superhumans that had come to try and find Cersai were too scared to even approach him!

Fredrica was one of the agents who had come, and she could feel an intense anger rising from deep inside her heart! Fredrica knew that Cersai was inside this building! She could see that the tracker they put on him was inside the building, but for some reason, she couldn’t reach him with any of the magical devices that Gaia regularly used for communication! This meant that they had no idea what was happening inside the house, and they didn’t even know if Cersai was alive or dead! Fredrica had always known that there would be problems with Jason! Right from the moment when Jason had threatened her, Fredrica knew that Jason wasn’t the sort of person that they could ever get to follow orders! He was a radical variable, and Fredrica had already been telling Cersai that they had to think of ways to make him more obedient! Cersai had also agreed that they needed to do it, and they had already been thinking of what they would do, but they hadn’t even gone anywhere before all this happened. What was she going to do if Jason decided to harm Cersai!? Cersai wasn’t a superhuman, so there was no way he could defend himself against Jason!

‘And what sort of creatures are defending this house? I can’t even tell how strong they are!’

Fredrica looked at the three figures standing around the house and preventing anyone from getting close, and she knew that there was a higher chance of everyone here dying than there was of them getting through those three! They had already fired a rocket that was as strong as an S-Rank at them, and the man with the long sword had easily cut the rocket in half with a single swing of his sword. They weren’t getting through that, no matter what!
