Chapter 397: Breaking the News
Jason leaned down and kissed Gina again before saying that he understood, and Gina just smiled at him happily. The two of them were almost lost in their own little world, but they were quickly pulled out of it when a loud voice echoed through the living room!

“Get away from him, you homewrecker!”

Maya shouted while dragging Jason away from Gina, and Mira gasped when Maya tried to kiss Jason as well! But Jason quickly moved his face to the side so that Maya would kiss his cheek instead! Maya cried out in betrayal, and she was about to beg Jason to allow her to kiss him, but she couldn’t even get a word out before her ear was pulled hard by her mother!

“Maya Rosaline Angelina Marc! What in the world do you think you’re doing!?”

“OOOWWWW! Ow! Ow! Ow! Mum, it hurts! It hurts!”

“You’re coming with me right now, young lady! I thought you had outgrown this madness of yours! What in the world has gotten into you!?”

Mira started to pull Maya away from the living room to discipline her, and Jason just chuckled and asked his mum not to be too hard on her. Jason knew that Maya was a difficult little menace, but he still loved her, so he didn’t want her to be punished too hard. Once Mira and Maya were gone, Jason gave Gina another kiss, and he leaned down to place a gentle kiss on top of Riyala’s head before he said goodbye and vanished into the shadows. None of them failed to notice that he didn’t even say a word to Janet throughout the dinner, and when Gina looked at Janet, she saw Janet staring down at her plate with a deep frown. Janet dropped her spoon roughly before excusing herself and leaving the dinner table as well.

Mira came back into the living room a few minutes later while muttering about how she needed to get a psychiatrist for that girl, but she stopped when she saw Gina and Riyala sitting on the couch and waiting for her. Mira smiled and asked them what was wrong, and Gina took in a deep breath and sighed to calm herself before she spoke.

“Uhm, there’s… there’s something we need to tell you. Could you sit down?”

Mira had no idea what was going on at that moment, but with how serious the two girls looked, Mira knew that she would definitely need to sit down for this. Mira moved to the couch opposite them, and she sat down softly on it. Mira was still smiling kindly at the girls, but her smile slowly turned into a look of surprise as Gina gave her the shocking news.

“I want to tell you that… a lot of things happened in Radagan, and, well, after talking through things and understanding each other properly… Jason and I decided to accept Riyala into our relationship. So uhm… Riyala and I are going to be sharing Jason.”

Mira’s eyes widened, and she spoke in absolute disbelief.

“What?”

[The SMD Headquarters in Riverdale]

The SMD headquarters was filled with various SMD agents, and dozens of police officers had formed a perimeter around the SMD building to make sure that no civilians could even get into the street! The front of the building had been turned into a makeshift stage, and there were more than fifty reporters sitting on benches that had been arranged in front of the building. The reporters were all talking amongst themselves as they waited for the main guest to arrive, and it was obvious that there was only one thing they were all interested in talking about. Was Jason willing to work with the government to place restrictions on how he used his powers, or was he going to become the rogue superhuman who refused to listen to the public’s concerns?

Inside the building, Juliet felt slightly nervous as she waited for the current Director of the Riverdale SMD to arrive. Juliet had been shocked when she got a message from the SMD telling her that the Director wanted to meet with her, and she was already worried that he was going to be angry at her for organizing this conference on such short notice. When Jason told Juliet to organize the conference as quickly as possible, she sent out memos to all the reputable news stations in and around the city and told them that Jason was willing to have one press conference. She thought that it would take at least half a day to get responses back from all of them, but she had been shocked when she got a response from all of them in less than a day, and they all told her that their representatives were already on their way! This showed how badly the news channels wanted to have this conference, and Juliet decided that it would be best to just get this done since they were all ready to have it! She was sure that Jason also wanted to get this done quickly, so there would be no trouble!

She just hoped that the Director would also understand why they needed to do this! It would be bad if she got a bad image with the Director so soon. As Jason’s personal manager, she knew that she would be running into the Director many times in the future, so she needed to make sure he liked her!

Ding~!

The sound of the elevator opening up made Juliet look up quickly, and she straightened up when she saw the recently promoted Director of the SMD coming out of the elevator. Liam had on a crisp brown suit as he walked out with a confident stride. There were two people following after him, and one of them was holding a document and asking him to look through it while the other one was on a call for him. Juliet knew that those were his secretaries, and she waited patiently for Liam to finish handling the document and responding to the woman making the call for him before Juliet began moving closer to him.

“Hello, sir. My name is Juliet Rapha and—”

Juliet didn’t even finish introducing herself before Liam looked up to regard her, and she was surprised when he smiled at her like an old friend! Juliet was sure that she had never met Liam before, but the way he smiled made it seem like he knew her personally! And Juliet was even more shocked when Liam told the secretaries to leave him alone for some time so he could talk to her. Once they were gone, Liam spoke.

“You’re Jason’s manager, aren’t you? How are things going? We had to hurry after getting your request for a press conference, but I hope the agents organized things to your liking.”

Juliet felt a little put off by how easygoing Liam was, and she could only stare at him in surprise for a few seconds. Juliet had heard all the news channels talking about how quickly Liam had gone up the ranks in the SMD, and she also knew that he was one of the most dedicated members of the Department. Even though Liam wasn’t a combatant, he had gone into multiple battlefields with agents before so he could use his Gift to help support them, and Juliet knew that people with so many accolades at such a young age would usually have a difficult personality! But Liam wasn’t difficult at all! He was so easygoing that Juliet felt herself relaxing in his presence, and she felt a genuine smile spreading on her face as she nodded to his question.

“Yes, thank you for everything, sir. I know it was hard for your department to organize all this so quickly. I wouldn’t have told them to move it forward, but they were insistent about the time.”

Liam easily waved away the thanks and told Juliet not to mention it.

“This department exists to help superhumans, so it’s our job to be available whenever you need us. And besides, Jason is one of our most important superhumans, so if there is ever a situation when you need our help, you shouldn’t hesitate to ask. So, is Jason not here yet?”
