Chapter 331: New Famous City—2
Leon would soon arrive at the previous hotel where they had stayed. He was now on the ground without any camouflage or illusion masking his presence, walking openly through the streets.

Along the way to the hotel, he had noticed how much the infrastructure of the city had been damaged. Cracks ran through building facades, some structures leaned precariously, and entire sections of street had been torn up by the violent tremors from his battle.

However, he was also seeing quick restoration work by the people. Magic made all the difference—earth mages were sealing cracks, construction workers were reinforcing foundations with enchanted materials, and repair crews moved with practiced efficiency.

A couple of shops alongside the road, still getting fixed, were actually functioning despite the ongoing repairs. Merchants sold goods from partially collapsed stalls while workers labored around them.

This is the advantage of magic. Normal means would have taken quite a bit of time and manpower to fix all these things. But with magic? Days instead of months.

The atmosphere in the city carried a noticeable tension. He had noticed quite a few injured people along the way—bandaged arms, limping gaits, wounds being treated by street healers. He understood the reason for their nervous energy completely.

They experienced something terrifying and don’t know if it will happen again.

Some people were actually leaving the city entirely, their belongings packed on carts and wagons as they fled to safer locations.

But all in all, the city was more bustling than ever. Quite a lot of new faces were roaming around—investigators, opportunists, curious adventurers drawn by the commotion. And that huge line at the city gates he’d seen from above was still growing.

It seems the incident earlier has caused the city to become quite famous. Or infamous, depending on perspective.

The hotel they had been staying at seemed to be functioning well, its structure mostly intact despite everything.

Leon entered through the main doors. The receptionist they had talked to before—the one who had seemed quite nice and helpful—was not at the counter. Instead, some other lady stood there, younger with sharp eyes that tracked him immediately.

He had to show her proof of his room after being stopped by her questioning gaze. After a brief verification, she allowed him passage.

Different staff. Makes sense after a disaster like that.

He prayed for the previous receptionist that she would be safe, as she was a nice and helpful young lady.

Leon headed for their room, taking the stairs two at a time.

He believed Seraphine and Loriel might be sleeping or resting inside since it was quite early in the morning—the sun had only been up for maybe an hour.

More so than that, the unexpected chaos I caused during the night definitely disrupted their sleep. So the chance of them being inside the room resting is even higher.

Leon arrived closer to the room, but he didn’t even have to check inside to know that neither of them was there. His spatial awareness told him everything—the room was empty, no living presences detected within.

So he didn’t even bother going inside or unlocking the door.

Hmm. If neither of them is here, they might be at the Adventurer’s Guild. Or it’s possible they were searching for me.

Though that second option seemed like a slim possibility.

I don’t think that would be the case since it hasn’t even been a full day yet. I know Seraphine trusts me enough not to panic immediately.

And he was absolutely certain she would have been able to guess who was fighting that giant monster in the distance. The sheer scale of the battle, the elemental signatures, and most importantly, his coincidental leaving in the middle of the night.—She’d know it was him.

She’s probably just continuing with missions or training while waiting for me to return.

Leon headed to the Adventurer’s Guild next. The same building he’d visited before—and remarkably, it seemed the shockwaves from his battle had no effect on this place whatsoever. No visible cracks, no structural damage, not even cosmetic wear.

Heavily enchanted, probably. Makes sense for an official Union building.

He felt a bit strange about the building’s perfect condition for some reason, but he still entered through the main doors.

CREAK…

As he walked inside the guild hall, Leon immediately noticed people seemed surprised at seeing him. More than surprised—shocked, even. Their expressions carried genuine fear.

Was this the reason I was feeling strange earlier outside?

And there was this underlying feeling of dread in them as they took steps away from him, creating distance like he was carrying some contagious disease.

What the hell?

Leon questioned internally what was happening. Why were they acting so strangely toward him?

Do they know I was the one fighting the giant monster in the forest? But how could they know that? It’s impossible. I was completely alone in that area when fighting—I’m sure of it. My spatial awareness would have been improved if someone else were there observing.

But something was definitely wrong with how people were reacting to his presence.

He spotted the burly, bearded man from whom he had created his Union ID originally. The man was at his usual desk, but he was trying extremely hard not to look Leon in the eyes.

That’s… weird. He was quite an extrovert before.

Leon walked up to his desk and stood directly in front of him. He noticed the man was putting enormous effort into not even glancing at him, his gaze fixed firmly on the papers in front of him with unnatural intensity.

Despite the strangeness of the situation, Leon asked what he wanted to know.

“Old geezer, have you seen my two companions? I’m looking for them.”

The burly man shrieked like a frightened child when being addressed directly by this handsome young man, whom he was trying so hard to avoid.

He clearly didn’t want to associate with Leon or bring trouble to himself.

So he quickly stammered out: “Go away! I don’t know you!”

Then he practically ran through the staff gate behind his desk, entering the back room and abandoning his post completely—something Leon had never seen a guild official do before.

What the actual fuck just happened?

He blinked, confused by how people moved away from him—like he was something dangerous. They weren’t looking at him like a person. More like something they couldn’t explain. And that unsettled him more than he expected.

Leon was genuinely confused by the extreme reaction.

Through his enhanced hearing, he picked up whispered conversations from nearby adventurers. Their words carried clear tones of fear.

“They might be coming…”

“Should we leave before—”

“I’m not getting involved in this…”

The fear was palpable in their body language—tense shoulders, darting eyes, hands hovering near weapons.

Who’s ‘they’? What are these people afraid of?

And then suddenly, from one of the hallways leading deeper into the guild building, someone came running toward him at full sprint.

To Leon’s enhanced perception, the movement was really slow—like watching someone run through water.

He could see clearly who it was: the same bunny girl from before, the one he had helped before. Her white rabbit ears were pinned back against her head in distress.

She sprinted across the hall and reached him quickly, immediately grabbing his hand without any hesitation. Her expression carried both relief and extreme tension, like she’d been desperately searching for him.

Then she pulled, trying to drag him along with her toward the exit.

Leon didn’t show any resistance and let himself be dragged along outside the Adventurer’s Guild.

She might be the one who can tell me what’s happening. I’ll go with her.

They didn’t stop running until they arrived at an isolated, empty alleyway tucked between two buildings where no one else was present besides them.

The bunny girl finally released his hand, breathing heavily from the exertion, her red eyes wide with worry as she looked at him.

She clutched his shirt with her tiny hands, jumping ever so slightly off the ground in what seemed to be her natural anxious response. Her rabbit ears twitched frantically with each small hop.

Leon calmly placed a hand on her shoulder to steady her.

“Relax. Take a breath and tell me what you want to say.”

Hearing his words and feeling the steadying pressure of his hand, Bunbun realized her mistake. She was acting panicked instead of explaining clearly.

She quickly released everything she had been storing inside, the words tumbling out in a desperate rush.

“Mr. Leon, please—you have to save your two wives and my friend Sylphia! They’ve been kidnapped by thugs!”

Her voice was full of genuine worry and fear, trembling with each syllable. Her big red eyes were threatening to tear up, moisture gathering at the corners as she stared up at him desperately.

Leon’s jaw tightened instantly, the sharp click of his teeth grinding together cutting through the silence. A faint crackle of uncontrolled mana pulsed around him for a heartbeat—his fury barely contained.

The air around them thickened, charged with a pressure that made Bunbun’s ears twitch in alarm.

Leon’s expression shifted instantly, his previously calm demeanor replaced by something cold and dangerous. His mystical eyes seemed to glow faintly with barely contained fury.

Kidnapped. Someone dared to kidnap Seraphine.

His voice came out perfectly level, but there was steel beneath it.

“Tell me everything,” he said—

But in his eyes, war had already begun.
