Chapter 322: Stalemate—2
Ten whole minutes have passed, and the monster would have tried countless times to catch the human and devour him. However, it had failed every single time, and now, instead of trying, it was just standing in the place to which it got teleported back after every attempt.

The monster had realized there was something weird going on in this place. No matter how it tried, it couldn’t even lay a hand on a single strand of the human’s hair here. The realization burned through its consciousness like acid, each failed attempt adding to its mounting frustration.

It had given up—for now.

With a frustrating shout that echoed through the strange dimensional space, the monster looked at the smirking human with his eyes closed, taunting him with that infuriating expression of confidence. The sound vibrated faintly in the air like distant thunder trapped in a dome, lingering for a moment too long.

“Strange human, enjoy it while you can. Soon I will tear you apart,” the creature growled, its voice reverberating with barely contained rage.

The monster sat cross-legged on the ground and started meditating, focusing entirely on absorbing the abundant mana of this place to recover itself fully. The ambient mana buzzed against its skin like static-drenched mist, thick enough to almost taste on the tongue—a cool, metallic tang that clung to its breath. In its thoughts, it laughed evilly. Once it had recovered and understood the rules of this cursed space, the human wouldn’t be able to do anything. It would mercifully devour him—or perhaps not so mercifully, considering the humiliation it had endured.

Leon stood up from his mocking position and now moved a bit away, starting his training in front of the prey he was going to destroy soon. But there was one thing he regretted deeply: he had given Seraphine the epic rank technique scroll, which might have been really useful right now. He’d given it to her to try comprehending in her free time, knowing she wouldn’t use the scroll on herself immediately but would study it first—typical of her cautious nature.

Without knowing he would find himself in this situation, he would have never handed it to her. The irony wasn’t lost on him; here he was, facing a monster that could tear him apart in seconds under normal circumstances, and one of his best resources was sitting in someone else’s inventory.

He knew there was no benefit in brooding over it. What’s done was done, and regret wouldn’t change his current predicament.

He could train his control over elements and increase his skill levels, even make more combinations of his existing abilities. However, he knew the limitations of his current strength all too well. The gap between him and the monster was like a chasm—vast and seemingly insurmountable with conventional means.

He needed techniques that would bridge the gap in his speed and, more importantly, make him capable of actually hurting the monster. His current arsenal, while impressive for someone of his level, was like throwing pebbles at a mountain.

So Leon decided to open his Cosmic Shop. As a transparent golden screen appeared in front of his eyes, a ripple of warm golden light washed across his skin, prickling like sunlit silk and briefly illuminating the translucent grass beneath him. he felt a surge of anticipation. For the first time, he was going to buy techniques, skills, or anything else that might increase his power using his causality points. He hadn’t fully utilized his advantage of having this overpowered shop yet, and now was definitely the time.

The screen flickered to life, displaying an array of options that would make any cultivator weep with envy:

#. Frost Fang Technique (Epic – Technique)

A deadly piercing strike that chills the target’s soul and slows movement.

Price: 910,000

Vendor: Sir Chillington

—-

#. Elemental Surge (Legendary – Skill)

Temporarily raises all elemental affinities by one rank for 60 seconds.

Price: 3,000,000

Vendor: Lord of Time and Space

—-

#. Arcane Shackle (Rare – Technique)

Binds a target’s mana flow for five seconds.

Price: 320,000

Vendor: Warden Wink

—-

Leon bought all three of these without a second thought. Two technique scrolls and one skill stone appeared in front of him from a glitch in reality, the air bending with a soft crackling hiss, as though space had exhaled a gasp of pressure. The items materialized as if space itself had torn open to deliver them.

The sudden appearance of these items made the monster open its eyes abruptly and look at the human with newfound interest. The air thickened with tension, an almost audible hum as the creature’s breath grew deeper, heavier—like a predator catching the scent of fresh blood.

The monster realized immediately how precious those things were. Out of pure instinct and greed, it charged at the human with full speed to get the items, its meditation forgotten in the face of such tantalizing treasures.

But Leon, with just a dismissive wave of his hand and a contemptuous comment, made it teleport back to the same spot.

“Sit the fuck down, you clown.”

The monster, arriving back at its place, growled menacingly as it realized its own mistake. From the fact that this human had such valuable treasures at his disposal, jealousy burned through his consciousness. What kind of background did this human have to casually take out such precious resources?

Leon stored all three items inside his inventory with a thought, but he wasn’t done yet. He was still completely naked, his previous clothes having been destroyed in their earlier confrontation. While clothes didn’t matter too much in terms of combat effectiveness, he had decided to buy armor. It was very clear to him now—if he’d had strong armor, he might have reduced the damage he got from the monster in their previous fight. He knew the outcome wouldn’t have been much different because of the disparity in strength, but still, every advantage counted.

With just a thought, he searched for armor in the search bar of the Cosmic Shop as many options appeared before him, each more tempting than the last:

#. Obsidian Wraith Armor (Epic – Armor Set)

Dark lightweight armor that increases stealth, evasion, and shadow affinity.

Set Bonus: Attacking from stealth deals +100% damage.

Set Bonus: Survive one lethal blow with 1 HP once per day.

Leon blinked slowly. These weren’t just armor pieces—they were game-changers. His pulse ticked faster as he imagined the weight of such sets resting on his body, each name brimming with a promise of survival. Each one sounded like it belonged to an epic written in the stars.

#. Stormchaser’s Regalia (Rare – Armor Set)

Increases lightning and wind affinities; boosts movement speed drastically.

Set Bonus: Lightning Dash cooldown reduced by 40%.

—-

He scrolled further, now seriously overwhelmed by the sheer power these sets offered. One second, he was contemplating stealth; the next, he was eyeing godlike radiance. The light from the screen shimmered in his eyes like distant stars, his thoughts pulled into a flurry of strategies and consequences.

#. Radiant Dawnplate (Legendary – Armor Set)

Armor of blessed gold light; boosts defense, healing received, and light affinity.

Set Bonus: Emits a burst of blinding light when struck critically.

Price: 44,400,000

Vendor: The Sun-Priest Who Never Blinks

—-

But he knew better than to chase flash over function. In his current state, what mattered wasn’t just aesthetics—it was synergy.

Whisperwind Initiate Set (Rare – Armor Set)

#. Light robes enhance agility and soundless movement.

Set Bonus: 20% cooldown reduction on all wind skills.

Price: 9,500,000

Vendor: Madam Fluttersteps

—-

And then his eyes locked onto something that made his heart skip a beat.

#. Dragonblood Vanguard Armor (Mythical – Armor Set)

Infused with true dragon essence; massively increases strength, vitality, and elemental resistance.

Set Bonus: Gain temporary dragon wings for flight (60 seconds), with a 1-hour cooldown.

Price: 392,000,000

Vendor: The Last Dragon-Smith

—-

Leon sucked in a cold breath as his eyes scanned the options before him. Out of all the amazing choices he hadn’t expected, there was only one that took all his attention, demanding it like a siren’s call to a sailor. The screen’s glow refracted faintly in his widening eyes, and a tingle of pure hunger rolled through his gut—the hunger for power.

His mind was telling him he had to get this one at all costs. The Dragonblood Vanguard Armor—a mythical tier set that would fundamentally change everything about his current situation.

This thing would change the tides of the battle entirely. The massive stat increases alone would be worth it, but the set bonus—temporary dragon wings for flight—that opened up three-dimensional combat possibilities he hadn’t even considered. The monster might be stronger, but could it fly? Could it chase him through the air while he rained down newly purchased techniques?

The price was steep—392 million Causality points—but he had to take it. His accumulated causality from various achievements and the cosmic chat rewards had been sitting there, waiting for a moment exactly like this. This was an investment in survival, and more importantly, in victory.

The monster, still seated in meditation but clearly watching him with one eye open, had no idea what was about to hit it. Leon’s lips curved into a genuine smile for the first time since entering this space. The hunter was about to become the hunted, and the prey was preparing to bare its fangs.
