Chapter 280: A Summoned Beast
Name: Frostveil Kirin (Summoned Beast)

Rank: A → Potential S

Type: Mythic Spirit Beast

Core: Ice / Spirit

Affinity: 78% Ice | 22% Water

Temperament: Serene, Loyal, Judgmental

Strength: A

Agility: A

Stamina: A

Intelligence: A

Mana: 3,700

Spirit Bond: 100 (Perfect Harmony)

Leon stared at the golden screen floating before him, his eyes scanning the information rapidly. But the first thing that truly caught his attention wasn’t the impressive stats—it was a single term at the very top.

Summoned beast.

His gaze immediately shifted from the screen to the girl with white-grey hair sitting atop the massive red wolf. She was petting the creature with an expression of pure contentment, a wide smile on her exhausted face as she stroked its crimson fur with obvious affection.

She summoned it, Leon realized, the pieces clicking into place. This Frostveil Kirin—whatever that is—belongs to her.

The name itself was unfamiliar. Frostveil Kirin. He’d never even heard of such a creature before, but that was hardly surprising. He hadn’t been in this world for very long, and what little time he’d spent here had been in the lower domain—the lowest of the low places. His knowledge of rare beasts, especially mythic ones, was practically nonexistent.

If this exists in the higher domains, I wouldn’t know. I’m still stuck at the bottom of the ladder.

Leon returned his attention to the screen, reading each line with increasing interest. The information painted a picture of just how impressive this beast truly was.

Rank: A → Potential S

S-rank potential, Leon thought, his mind cataloging the significance. That’s not just strong—that’s exceptional. And it’s already at A-rank, which means it’s formidable even now.

Type: Mythic Spirit Beast

The classification alone suggested this wasn’t some random creature. “Mythic Spirit Beast” sounded like a designation for an entire category of powerful beings, not just a fancy name. This was a specimen from a rare and potent species.

Core: Ice / Spirit

Affinity: 78% Ice | 22% Water

Dual-element core with heavy ice affinity, Leon noted. That explains the crystalline antlers and silvery appearance. But there’s something more—that “Spirit” designation. What does that mean exactly?

His eyes moved down to the physical stats, expecting to see numbers similar to his own system display. Instead, what he found made him pause.

Strength: A

Agility: A

Stamina: A

Intelligence: A

Not numbers, Leon observed with fascination. Letter grades instead. The system displays beast stats differently from human stats. Interesting.

Without numerical values, it was harder to gauge exact comparative strength, but A-rank in all physical categories suggested the Frostveil Kirin was no pushover. Those stats meant speed, power, endurance, and—most impressively—intelligence all at high levels.

But it was the next line that made Leon’s eyes bulge slightly.

Mana: 3,700

For a long moment, Leon simply stared at the number, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing.

Three thousand seven hundred, he thought, a strange mixture of shock and… was that envy? That’s almost double my own mana reserves.

His current mana sat just above 2,000—a number he’d been quite proud of, considering his level and the effort he’d put into expanding his reserves. Among humans, his mana capacity was exceptional, bordering on monstrous for someone of his stage.

But this beast—this summoned creature belonging to a girl who looked barely old enough to have been awakened for more than a few years—had nearly double his capacity.

For the first time, Leon admitted to himself with uncomfortable honesty, I feel like I’m far behind in something.

Throughout his journey in this world, he’d always been above everything. Superior stats, unique abilities, advantages that put him leagues ahead of his peers. Even if he faced tronger opponents from higher domains, he’d had tricks and treasures that evened the playing field.

But raw mana capacity? This summoned beast had him beat by a significant margin.

A summoned beast. Summoned by that smiling girl on the wolf. And it has nearly double my mana reserves.

The implications were staggering. If the beast was this powerful, what did that say about its summoner?

Leon’s gaze dropped to the final line on the screen.

Spirit Bond: 100 (Perfect Harmony)

He didn’t fully understand what that meant in practical terms, but the designation “Perfect Harmony” with a numerical value of 100 sounded impressive. Complete synchronization between summoner and beast? Absolute trust and connection? Whatever it represented, achieving a perfect score suggested something extraordinary about their relationship.

I’ve clearly found a gem hidden in coal, Leon thought, reassessing everything he knew about the refugees he’d brought into his dimensional space.

Leaving aside Garrett—the corrupted human with abyssal affinity who was a special case entirely—Leon had thought Max was the most talented individual among his people. The boy had two rank 5 affinities and showed exceptional promise for combat and growth.

But now? Now he wasn’t so sure.

This beast had broken the chart. And its summoner was this unassuming girl with white-grey hair who’d somehow emerged from a deadly dungeon not only alive but with two powerful beasts at her command, of which one caught his attention.

She could trash Max with this overpowered beast alone, Leon acknowledged, running combat scenarios through his mind. A-rank stats across the board, 3,700 mana, ice and spirit elements, mythic species advantages—Max wouldn’t stand a chance in a direct confrontation, even with his dual rank 5 affinities.

The girl continued petting her red wolf, seemingly oblivious to the analytical scrutiny she was under. Her wide smile never faltered, her exhaustion evident but her spirit clearly unbroken. The Frostveil Kirin stood beside her like a guardian, its crystalline antlers catching the fading sunlight and creating small rainbows in the air.

Who are you? Leon wondered, studying the girl with renewed interest. What kind of talent does it take to summon something like this? And how did I miss you before?

She hadn’t stood out among the refugees initially—just another face in the desperate crowd seeking salvation. But clearly, there had been far more to her than met the eye.

The beast’s intelligent gaze remained fixed on Leon, as if aware it was being analyzed and evaluated. The earlier growl had faded, but the message remained clear: I see you. I know what you are. And I’m not afraid.

Leon dismissed the system screen with a thought, the golden interface vanishing as quickly as it had appeared. But his mind continued racing with possibilities and questions.

A summoner with perfect harmony with a mythic spirit beast, he mused. In the lower domain, that’s practically unheard of. She’s either incredibly lucky, incredibly talented, or… something else entirely.

The survivors were beginning to settle, some collapsing where they stood, others helping their more injured companions find places to rest. The organization was minimal—they were too exhausted for proper formation—but they were alive, and that counted for something.

Seraphine leaned closer to Leon, her voice low. “That beast… I’ve never seen anything like it. Not even in the middle domain records.”

“Neither have I,” Leon admitted quietly. “But I intend to find out everything about it. And about her.”

His eyes remained fixed on the girl with white-grey hair, who was now dismounting from her red wolf with stiff, tired movements. The Frostveil Kirin lowered its head slightly, allowing her to lean against its shoulder for support.

A gem in coal, Leon thought. I am fortunate to find these hidden gems.

Leon’s analytical gaze swept over the survivors more carefully, and another detail struck him as unusual.

No one has life-threatening injuries.

There were wounds, yes—cuts, bruises, signs of combat and hardship. But nothing critical. No one was bleeding out, no one had limbs hanging by threads, no one showed signs of infections or curse damage that typically plagued dungeon survivors.

They just looked malnourished, which made perfect sense for people trapped in a dungeon for an extended period. Food would have been the limiting factor, not healing.

Wait, Leon thought, his eyes narrowing as he pulled up the system screen again, scrolling down past the stats he’d already reviewed. There was more information I didn’t read yet.

His gaze landed on the section he’d skipped in his initial shock over the mana capacity.

Skills/Abilities:

The list began to populate before his eyes, and as Leon read the first few entries, everything suddenly made perfect sense.
