Chapter 648: There are many things we need to talk about
“My treasury,” La Rocha said flatly, “contains items so rare that empires have bathed continents in blood trying to obtain them.”
“That’s great,” Damon said cheerfully. “Bring those too.”
La Rocha’s eye twitched so violently that the castle lights flickered. “You cannot take those with your current soul strength. You will explode.”
Damon smirked. “How about some skill scrolls then? Surely, you must have some vampire or blood element, or for that matter, any other element related rare and useful skill scrolls?”
La Rocha did not answer and simply stared at Damon.
Damon laughed. “Come on, buddy. We have a deal. You cannot hoard everything forever. It’s time to take shit out. That’s an order.”
La Rocha winced. After a couple more minutes of hesitation, he finally disappeared and reappeared with two skill scrolls. Exactly two.
Damon raised a brow. Before he could say anything, the artifact spirit shot him down first. “I have some restrictions on my treasury. I can only withdraw a few things at a time, and I have already retrieved the venoms and poisons for you. You are going to have to wait some time if you want to withdraw more.”
“Heh?” Damon sneered. “Is that so?”
“They are just the rules of my structure. Even I am helpless against it.”
Damon was pretty sure that the cunning bastard found some sort of loophole, but he did not want to press too much right now. He took the two skill scrolls and examined them first. Not so surprisingly, both were related to poison.
It looked like the guy was dead set on making him choke on something and die.
[Toxic Serpent Mantle: A-Rank]
Summons an aura of venomous energy in the shape of spectral serpents, coiling around the user to bite, constrict, and corrode enemies.
[Poison Bloom: A-Rank]
Summons venomous buds all around the user. When the flowers bloom, the poison becomes more potent and detonates with catastrophic force, releasing thousands of toxic petals that scatter through the air.
Every petal carries a different poison, ranging from flesh-rotting acids to neural disruptors and mana-corrosive mists. The bloom spreads in a 30–50 meter radius depending on the user’s control. Even brushing against the petals can cripple most enemies instantly.
Damon’s eyes widened immediately. The two skills were absurdly strong. His venomous energy taking a spectral shape and attacking the enemies actively will improve the penetration of his venom.
Higher level beings mostly rely on defense type skills to block his poison so this would make a lot of difference in combat.
The second one was equally disruptive and also had the surprise factor. More importantly, it would help him gain some understanding about the different varieties of poison and help in his research and analysis.
Until now Damon had consistently failed in creating his own soul poison technique but he was not ready to give up on it anytime soon.
“Thanks, buddy. These two skills are perfect.” Damon genuinely thanked the artifact spirit.
La Rocha stared at him for a moment before disappearing. It looked like the guy was really not in a mood to chit chat.
Damon also did not bother staying back as he had nothing much to do in the real world. He had already done extorting the artifact spirit for now and probably had to wait a bit before he could order him around again and get more free stuff.
It was fine. He was willing to wait. All good things come to those who wait.
With a chuckle, he was about to activate his tattoo when unexpectedly, Sylvara ran over to him panting and heaving. “Damon, grandfather… wants to talk to you. He is awake and he is doing a lot better.”
“Oh?” Damon raised a brow.
Sylvara nodded breathlessly, eyes bright with relief. He… he said he specifically wants to see you. Right now.”
“Let’s go. Lead the way.” She grabbed his wrist and practically dragged him down the corridor. For someone from an ice clan, she was very warm and frantic. Damon couldn’t help but smile a little at her. Even the ice princess could be flustered it seems.
It was understandable. That old man inside was her only family in this whole world. When it came to him, Sylvara always reacted this way.
They rounded a corner and entered a quiet chamber. Artimius, the old monster himself, was sitting up on the bed, leaning back against a mountain of pillows. His skin had regained color, his aura now pulsed steadily, refined and controlled. His eyes opened as Damon stepped inside.
“Boy,” Artimius rasped. “So you really did it.”
Damon scratched his cheek. “Well… yeah. I mean, you helped me first, remember? This is payback.”
Artimius studied him. “You took something out of the game,” he murmured. “That means you opened your soul sea if I am not wrong? Did you find a suitable soul strengthening technique already?”
Damon shook his head.
The old man’s expression immediately changed. “Opening the soul sea without a soul cultivation technique is not something I would recommend.”
“I know. I know. I am working on it.” Damon sighed. “Anyway enough about me. How are you doing? Are you finally ready to step inside the game? I could use a hand or two inside.”
Artimius chuckled. “Do you really think that I haven’t entered the game until now because I was sick?”
Damon blinked. “Uh… yes?”
Artimius shook his head, the man’s wise old eyes staring right at Damon, eyes that held a lot of information which Damon was dying to learn about. “Maybe its time that we actually sat down and drank a cup of tea together. There are many things we need to talk about.”
Damon rolled his eyes inwardly. He had wanted to do this from day 1!
If it was not for this old bastard acting so mysterious and distant, he would have by now drank tea or had a whole meal or whatever.
“Well then,” the old man murmured, lifting a hand. “Sit.”
