Chapter 647: Give me more
Erin dropped to one knee so fast the surrounding mana quivered. Her black hair spilled across her shoulders, eyes shining with reverence and unmistakable zeal.
“As you command, my lord,” she said, voice trembling with excitement. “I will guard them with my life. Anyone who dares approach without your permission shall be reduced to ash.”
Damon nodded. Before he could say anything further, Lola ran over to him and jumped onto him like she always did. “Uncle! Papa told me that this castle came from your tummy? Wow! You are so awesome!”
Damon laughed. “Dude, what the hell?”
Lola clung to him like a koala, tiny arms wrapped around his neck, eyes sparkling with unfiltered hero-worship. Damon bounced her lightly on his arm, trying and failing to look stern.
“I swear, John,” Damon said, pointing an accusing finger at his brother, “one more ‘uncle’s tummy is magical’ story and I’m feeding you to a hydra.”
John raised both hands in surrender. “She is not ready, Damon. I’m not explaining soul constructs to a child.”
Lola gasped dramatically. “Hydra?! Can I see one, Uncle?! Does it also come from your tummy?!”
Damon froze. Kate snorted. Aurora covered her laugh with both hands.
“No,” Damon said slowly, “hydras do not come from my tummy.”
Lola pouted. “But the castle did.”
“It’s… different.”
“How?”
Damon opened his mouth. Nothing came out. Aurora leaned in and whispered, “Hubby, you’re losing to a child.” Kate added helpfully, “Just say it’s a secret technique. Kids love secrets.” Damon shot them both a betrayed look.
Finally, he sighed and tapped Lola’s nose. “Alright, fine. It’s a super secret thing Uncle can do. But you can’t tell anyone, okay?”
Lola gasped again, eyes huge. “A Secret Tummy Power?!”
“…Close enough.”
Kate laughed out loud this time. Aurora was giggling. Only Erin looked stiff as she was not used to seeing Damon behave like this.
Damon placed Lola back on the ground gently. “Alright, little monkey. Go play with Aurora and Kate. I need to talk to some grown-ups.”
Lola ran off toward Aurora, who immediately scooped her up and flew into the air, Lola shrieking with delighted terror.
Damon turned back to John, squinting. “Next time, tell her the castle came from a spell. Or a pocket dimension. Or the Easter Bunny. Anything but my tummy.”
John raised an eyebrow. “Would she believe those?”
“…No.”
“Exactly.”
Damon groaned. “I hate that you’re right.” He ruffled Lola’s hair one last time as she zipped past him again, then gathered his family close, making sure everyone was settled and Erin understood her responsibility.
“Alright,” Damon said. “I’m heading out. Stay safe and tell me if something unusual happens. Erin is there, and I am also assigning some beasts to protect you guys. Let me know if you need more gold or materials. Don’t worry too much and do whatever you want.”
His mother smiled and gave him a big hug. “We’ll be fine, Damon. Just don’t go picking unnecessary fights. We should be the ones asking you to take care of yourself. Please be careful, sweetheart.”
His father snorted. “As if he listens.”
Damon chuckled, and his dad patted him with a proud look in his eyes. “It’s fine, son. This is the age for you to be adventurous and take a lot of risks in life. Just make sure you survive them. Be smart. That’s all I will say.”
Damon nodded and then hugged his father. John did not really say much and simply gave him a nod. Georgina crossed her arms and turned to the side.
Damon ignored her as usual and went about his business. After the quick goodbyes, he stepped back with Kate and Aurora. He left behind fifty of his shadow beasts along with Erin. Then, making sure all the functions of the castle work, he opened up a portal back to the Blood Hall for Kate and Aurora.
As for himself, he still had unfinished business with La Rocha, so he activated his teleportation token to get back to the real world.
The game world dissolved like mist, replaced by the cool stillness of the real world. He materialized inside the castle’s main hall, the second castle that La Rocha had manifested earlier.
The moment Damon arrived, the familiar figure snapped into existence beside him. La Rocha. The artifact spirit floated stiffly, arms crossed. “You are back already?”
Damon gave him a sweet smile. “Of course, buddy. How will I forget about you? Did you get all poisons ready?”
La Rocha’s face twisted, but he could only nod and bring out a bunch of vials. There were about a hundred vials in total, but even just from looking, Damon could tell that these were not ordinary poisons.
They were probably vicious enough to kill him on the spot if he was not careful enough. Maybe even with his Nine Million Poisons physique. This was definitely what the bastard would be expecting. He had to be very careful with this particular collection.
However, if he mastered them, then he should be able to take his venom’s lethality up another notch.
“Thank you.” Damon transferred them all into his soul space. After shoving an entire castle into his soul space, even doing this little thing gave him a stinging pain, but it was not much. It was manageable. He did not dwell on it. After all, it was time to move on to other important things.
“Right, while I have you here, how about you hand over some skills, recipes, precious raw materials, and whatnot? Let’s see what you got in that treasury of yours.
La Rocha’s face froze. “…Come again?” the artifact spirit whispered.
Damon smiled pleasantly, as if asking for a cup of sugar and not the accumulated wealth of an ancient artifact. “You heard me, buddy. Skills. Recipes. Raw materials. Treasures. Trinkets. Anything useful. Bring them out. I am competing with Gods and Gods’ Chosens. Come on, you got to give me more than just poisons!”
