Chapter 627: I will forever be your best girl!
Several of them disintegrated on the spot, bursting apart like ink bubbles under a torch. But most did not. They simply twitched… then burrowed deeper.

If anything, the lake’s domain pressed harder, suppressing his divinity and lightning with the ease of a giant snuffing out a candle. The water around him thickened, heavy and suffocating, smothering his elemental outburst under its weight.

Damon frowned. The little guys were working with too much home-ground advantage. But he was also not done yet. Very few of them might have died, but that was more than enough for his bloodline to pull out some of their skills.

Damon’s shadow affinity started exploding once again. Even though the skills were not useful for him right this moment, to fight against these endless worms, the burst in affinity itself gave him some leeway.

His bloodline drank the stolen essence like a starving beast, weaving it instantly into his own power. He unleashed more and more divinity and lightning attacks. “Oh, you don’t like that? Too bad.” He pushed harder and more, and more of them died.

Their numbers were their advantage, but right now, it was also his advantage.

Divine force poured through his meridians like holy fire, blazing through the parasites’ stealthy tendrils and shredding handfuls of them in seconds. The lake water itself boiled around him. Soon, the parasites were no longer able to use the condensed shadow essence so freely.

Or rather, Damon was also partly controlling some of it. He was repeatedly shattering their combined attacks, and his mind was like a fortress blocking the relentless onslaught of these little fuckers inside his body.

And when they reached the core of his being, his primordial mana core nestled in the center of his body, the little parasites were in for a big surprise. Every single worm that tried to even get near the mana core was instantly blasted apart by the sheer power of the mana core.

Damon laughed like a maniac. These little fuckers probably wanted to shut down his system by corrupting his mana core, and now they were getting obliterated in the process.

His Nine Million Poisons Body did not make it easier for them to corrode his body. He was guarding his mind with 100% focus and fighting the fight on that border, which also made their life harder. He was shutting them down from all sides.

The only thing that would have worked against him was if they had gone for his soul. But these little fuckers were clearly not capable of doing that.

However, it was still too soon to underestimate them. The little fuckers were pretty quick learners. They probably had some sort of method to communicate with each other because after the first wipeout, they strictly stayed away from his mana core.

More and more started working on breaking down his body and his mind.

Damon was on the fence about entertaining them because he now felt as if he could yank himself out of the lake and get the fuck out of here once and for all. But his increasing shadow affinity was way too enticing for him to simply walk out of this golden opportunity.

There was also his mental strength. Was he taking a stupid risk once again, or was his mind really strong enough to handle this much strain?

Just as he was debating his options, Blood Reign chimed in. “Master, I cannot hold any stats from these parasites, but you should hold on. Don’t leave this place. This is a good place for you to train your mind. I am right here as the final defense if one of these parasites breaks in. You don’t have to worry. While some useless things only know how to make your life more difficult, you can always count on little red. I will forever be your best girl!”

Is she talking about the kitten? Wait, so all this time, Blood Reign was competing with the kitten? Damon helplessly shook his head. He did not have the time or mental strength right now to try and understand a woman, let alone a woman weapon spirit. Best to give up and focus on his training.

He agreed with Blood Reign. He wanted more of the shadow affinity as well. Each kill was only giving him a little, but the sheer number of these parasites made everything so much more interesting.

Damon’s grin widened, blood trailing from the corner of his mouth as another cluster of parasites shattered inside him. His shadow affinity surged again. It was intoxicating.

His entire body felt like a battlefield of pure chaos. His mind was being battered from all sides. His meridians burned. His muscles screamed. His nerves howled. His opened channels pulsed with the chaotic clash of lightning, divinity, poison, blood, and shadow all at once.

And he kept eating the shadow affinity being thrown at him. Every parasite he killed was like swallowing a sliver of pure shadow. He was a beast evolving in real time.

Soon, Damon received another unexpected notification.

[Ding! You have tempered your body]

[Ding! Your body has now reached the Perfect State]

[Ding! Your shadow affinity has reached A rank]

Damon laughed under his breath. These fuckers breaking him down and him rebuilding on the spree actually managed to temper his body yet again? Even after the Nine Million Poison Body tempering technique?

He looked at the stiny smelly sludge leaking out of his pores and gagged immediately. He had been exposed to all sorts of smells in the game but this was hands down the worst!

Thick streaks of oily black-green filth oozed from his skin, bubbling in the surrounding shadow water like melted tar reacting to acid. “Did something die inside me?”

Damon curiously looked as more sludge seeped out, peeling off in sheets, wriggling with faint remnants of dead parasites before dissolving into the churning lake. It looked like someone had blended rotten blood, sewage, and moldy corpse and heated it.

And it did not seem like it was going to stop anytime soon.
