Chapter 626: Here we go
Damon’s vision flickered. A loud ringing drowned out every other sound. But he controlled the flow with painful precision.

CRACK.

“Nine.”

The moment it opened, a wave of shadow essence slammed into him, harder than before, as if the lake sensed how close he was to completion and was trying to drag him those last few steps over the edge.

Damon snarled and held his ground. Then he moved on to the final meridian. The tenth. The last. The one closest to the crown of his skull. The one with the highest fatality rate in the game, because one wrong surge of energy here didn’t just rupture a nerve. It crushed the brain itself.

Damon exhaled, steadying every thought in his mind. His heart slowed. His mana gathered at the base of his spine.

“Let’s finish this,” he murmured. Slow. Precise. Controlled. The meridian shook violently, like a trapped serpent trying to break out of his skull. Damon did not stop. He reached deeper. Pushed harder. Widened the flow. Forced the conduit open even as his vision dimmed and pressure threatened to implode his mind. And then…

BOOM!

The tenth meridian burst open like a lightning bolt streaking through his brain.

A flood of mana and shadow essence blasted upward into his skull, filling every part of his mind with blinding intensity. Damon’s entire body vibrated. Blood burst from his nose and ears. His fingertips went numb. But he didn’t die.

He was still breathing and very much conscious. He was somehow holding on. The lake started churning violently. Damon wiped the blood from his lips and swayed, but he immediately prepared to back away.

“That’s all you’re getting from me.”

He pushed himself to his feet, legs trembling, and took a step back. Tendrils of shadow surged everywhere, wanting to devour him, but it was too late. He was already out of their grasp, and raw power surged inside him. Despite his body being currently unstable at the moment, his abilities had already leveled up.

The new him could easily withstand the heightened pressure. Now, it was time to gather a few more treasures and get the hell out of here. However, it was right at this moment that a black blur bounded towards him, or rather towards the pool of death.

The First was here again!

Both the kitten and the spark reacted at the same time to stop the black blur. Contrary to what Damon thought was going to happen, the two actually paid attention to him and were alertly guarding him despite playing their own game on the side.

Unfortunately, this ended up contributing more to the chaos. Damon alone was more than enough to stop the assassin, but the two ended up blasting him with their own attacks. In the middle of all of this, the First was actually not targeting Damon at all.

Just like everyone else, the guy had assumed that the lake itself was a treasured training ground and was running right into it.

“I will never let you claim my God’s legacy and sully it with your corruption! You unholy being! You wretched creature! You will not obtain my God’s legacy! Not until I am alive!”

In the end, Damon could only hear his words as he was forcefully pushed back, and instead, the assassin plunged into the lake. “You idiot!” Damon chuckled, but he had spoken too soon!

Even as the assassin jumped, two attacks fell on him from two sides, and the assassin himself tossed an attack towards Damon. In this chaos, the lake itself went wild, and shadow tendrils rose everywhere.

Both the troublemakers, the kitten and the spark, were at a good enough distance, and they weren’t all that affected by the series of events. Instead, it was Damon and the First who got the brunt of it. In one fell swoop, the two got pulled down into the swirling black madness.

Damon barely had time to curse. It looked like he had played with fire a little too close this time. A hundred tendrils of shadow coiled around his limbs, ribs, and neck, icy, invasive, hungry, wrapping around him like a nest of serpents tightening with each heartbeat.

The assassin beside him, the so-called First, didn’t even let out a last scream. The tendrils pierced his body instantly, burrowing into his flesh like needles of living smoke. They dragged him down, and the guy seemed more than happy to oblige.

Damon could see the vivid smile on his face even as he completely disappeared in the darkness. However, he did not have the time to worry about others right now.

Hundreds and thousands, perhaps millions of those parasites were burrowing into him at the same time. It was as if they were determined not to let him slip past them, no matter what. They were hungry, starving, and vicious and drilled deep into him from every which way.

Unfortunately for them, he was not the idiot who willingly accepted the madness. “Fuck it. Here we go.” Damon already had half a mind to lure one of these guys outside just to try and steal their skills, and now his work was just made easier for him.

He instantly blasted his body with venom from top to bottom. It slowed them down a bit, but they soon recovered. They had the domain advantage after all.

They continued drilling into Damon like millions of cold needles, forcing their way into his muscles, into his nerves, into the gaps between his bones. Like invasive fingers peeling apart layers of him he didn’t know existed.

Damon’s body convulsed as more and more shadow parasites surged into him endlessly. Obviously, poison was not cutting it. He switched gears to lightning and divinity. He flushed his entire body with raw, crackling power.

A blinding surge erupted from his core, racing along every nerve, every meridian, every sliver of muscle like a tidal wave of electric fury. The shadow parasites convulsed inside him. Thousands spasmed violently as arcs of electricity danced under his skin, turning every inch of his body into a live wire.
