Chapter 619: Meow
Damon was speechless. Dozens of fresh kill notifications flashed in front of him. The kitten then sneezed, an adorable little squeak completely at odds with the destruction it had just caused.
Damon stared at her. The kitten blinked twice, then proudly let out a tiny, “Meow.”
Damon exhaled. “Holy shit, baby. You are fucking amazing!” He had never been a prouder papa in his entire life!
While all of the blood essence poured into him in torrents, he reached up and patted her head with absolute sincerity. She purred like a small engine, vibrating with delight and more abyssal energy than should exist in something that fit in one hand.
“Little red, did you see my baby’s awesomeness just now? Isn’t she amazing? What do you think? Why are you so suspiciously silent?”
“Master… I can’t talk right now. I am holding on tight for you. We have gathered another thousand stat points. I am trying my best but I cannot promise anything.”
Damon nodded. It looked like Blood Reign was working hard silently. He wanted her opinion about the kitten and what beast it could be but that could wait. Now he had more killing to do.
Far in the distance, the First let out a strangled scream.
“NO! NO! NO! A newly hatched calamity should not have access to Abyssal Burst! That ability should only awaken once it reaches its adolescent form!”
Damon shrugged. “She’s talented.”
“Talented?! That thing shouldn’t even be sentient at this stage! It should be pure instinct! it is impossible for it to-” He broke off as the kitten turned her head toward him, eyes narrowing into tiny slits. The First froze.
Damon chuckled. “I’d stop yelling if I were you. She doesn’t like loud noises.”
The kitten bared her baby teeth. They were tiny. They were adorable. The kitten let out a soft growl that sounded more like a miniature “mrrrrp.”
Damon scratched under her chin. “Who’s a good apocalypse kitten? You are.” The kitten melted under the praise, tail flicking proudly. Damon then frowned. “That’s not a good name for you. You deserve better than that. Give papa sometime. I will think of an amazing name for my eeny weenie cutie pie.”
All around them, the remaining beasts began gathering again but this time they approached with visible fear, shaking, hesitating, clearly torn between instinct and terror. Damon rolled his shoulders. “Alright then. Round three.”
The kitten hopped off his shoulder, landing lightly on a cracked boulder. Her fur bristled. Her eyes glowed. Her tiny mouth opened again and the shadows trembled.
It took about another hour but eventually the chaos of endless shadow monsters on the mountains finally dwindled down. The little kitten had a minute cooldown on her overpowered skill. Otherwise, things would have been a lot faster.
Damon was not complaining. He was gaining a lot more blood essence than he could absorb. He was busily assimilating everything in his body. He even felt he was on the verge of conditioning his body to break open another set of meridians but he did not rush into it, especially here where anything could happen.
After all, Umbra’s legacy world was supposed to be an extremely dangerous area.
Or at least that’s what First had thought before he watched the two plunder through everything in the mountains. Apart from the bloodessence and the experience points, the First gaped at the small heap of shadow mana cores piled up in the area.
He was the leader of the most powerful cult in the Great Western Desert and yet he had never seen so much wealth piled up in front of him.
Damon could feel the hungry gaze of the assassin and he swiped it all up in a single motion into one of the shadow spatial ring that had dropped from one of the beasts.
There were also a few more drops lying around. A couple of daggers, both of them Epic grade. There was also a curious-looking stone that pulsed faintly with shadow runes. Maybe it was valuable. Maybe it was cursed. Either way, Damon tossed it into the ring with the rest.
There were some more items and they were all high-tier. Three Epic rank and the rest Rare rank. The loot was extremely impressive. They were also all above level 150, basically end game gear. Each one would auction for millions of gold coins.
His shadow clone continued to pick up the drops one after the other and soon, the few items turned into an entire set.
Damon had not been wearing any items lately because they were all ruined thanks to his own venomous blood but this set was amazing. Every single item of the set was Epic level, something that would even make the super guilds salivate.
Even if he couldn’t use it, maybe Ghost could put them to good use. Thinking about that idiot, Damon couldn’t help but wonder where he was. He had mentioned Umbra’s legacy and yet the guy was taking his own sweet time. Shouldn’t he be here by now?
Damon let out a sigh and continued to go through the drops. His eyes then landed on black gemstones, some sort of shadow affinity items. There were black ores that he had never seen in the game before. “I guess all these could be used in shadow affinity gear crafting.”
He looked through some more drops and they were all shadow affinity themed. There were some herbs, more ores and gems and a few more items. While overall the quality of loot was impressive, it was nothing spectacular.
While Damon was busy browsing through the piles, the kitten suddenly leapt off his shoulder and ran away somewhere.
“Hey!” Damon called after the cat but she was so fast that she disappeared in the shadows. He did not have to worry because she immediately reappeared the next second.
She trotted proudly toward him with tiny, confident steps, tail raised like she ruled all creation. Damon crouched to pick her up. “Come here, baby. You did so well today. Where did you go? Don’t run off like that again without telling your papa, okay?”
