Chapter 612: What’s in the egg?
Damon unleashed wave after wave of attack, and naturally, these were not that effective. The shadow monsters kept piling up. Damon then stopped and smirked. “Right, I almost forgot. You guys don’t really take that much damage from normal attacks, huh?”

Just as the first horde of abyssal shadow monsters reached him, Damon raised his palm and calmly activated the skill that he hadn’t used in a while.

“Wyrm’s Breath!”

A faint red glow swirled around his fingertips. Then reddish-yellow lightning crackled between his knuckles. Then a serpentine hiss echoed through the domain. The next moment, a beam of draconic energy exploded out of Damon’s hand.

The entire domain shuddered.

A spiraling torrent of red death roared forward, vaporizing the first line of abyssal beasts instantly. Their bodies didn’t even have time to scream. They simply disintegrated into nothingness.

The blast carved a trench through the domain, forcing the darkness itself to ripple as if someone had punched a hole through the sky.

Damon grinned. He had used Wyrm’s Breath earlier, but he wasn’t able to bring out its full potential until now. Unlocking the meridians and removing more restrictions from his mana core seemed to have done the trick.

However, Damon’s grin faded the next second. This was because these abyssal shadow monsters seemed to lack any sort of blood essence completely. The guy had apparently invited him to a feast and left out the best part.

Damon would have complained except he noticed something interesting. Though he was not able to eat anything, it looked like someone else was finally awake and was eating to their heart’s content.

The little egg on his chest vibrated like crazy as it started absorbing all of the abyssal essence around them, especially from the dying beasts. At least someone was having the time of their life.

“Alright, let’s go.” Damon continued unleashing havoc on the horde of the abyssal shadow creatures. While they seemed endless at first, in front of his wyrm’s breath, the numbers quickly dwindled down.

Damon kept blasting through the tide, each pulse of Wyrm’s Breath carving another canyon of annihilation through the First’s domain. The roaring beam shredded beast after beast, turning them into drifting ash-light before the darkness swallowed even that.

The pressure dropped with every kill. The abyssal growls grew weaker. But Damon barely paid attention to the collapsing monster ranks. His eyes flicked downward.

The egg. The little rebellious lump lodged against his chest, usually quiet, usually dormant, was now trembling like a starving creature at a banquet. Thin streams of abyssal essence, like inky smoke, spiraled into it with frightening greed.

Every time a shadow beast died, the egg pulsed brighter.

“…you glutton,” Damon muttered.

The absorption had already turned ravenous. It was practically tearing the essence out of the monsters before Wyrm’s Breath even finished burning them.

So Damon simply shrugged, gripped the domain with his killing intent, and unleashed another blast. The horde broke again. And again. And again.

Huge sections of the domain peeled back under the wyrm flame. Monster after monster collapsed, and with each death, the egg vibrated harder, as if trying to hatch by sheer enthusiasm alone.

Damon’s eyes lit up with excitement. This was an unexpected gain. He had thought that he would need to head to the abyssal zone once again to somehow hatch this egg, but now the First had solved this problem for him.

He unleashed another torrent of wyrm flame, and another wave of abyssal creatures dissolved into nothing. The egg pulsed in perfect rhythm, drinking in every dying wisp with greedy, frantic hunger.

The domain itself began to quiver.

The First finally reacted. His voice cut through the darkness, no longer calm, composed, and indifferent. “Impossible. That’s a beast that should not be in your possession.”

Damon didn’t look at him. He was watching the egg with the calm interest of a man observing an investment finally showing returns. “You tell me,” he said. “You’re the one who fed it. It’s a dragon, right? A really big and cool abyssal shadow dragon?”

The First’s killing intent surged so hard the domain trembled. “Silence.”

But Damon only tilted his head. “No? Then enlighten me.”

“You fool! That breed. That abomination. That calamity. The thing sleeping in that egg will kill us all and swallow this entire world alive!”

Damon blinked. “…So a VERY big and cool abyssal shadow dragon?”

The First choked on his own fury. “It is not a dragon.”

Damon shrugged. “Sounds dragon-ish.”

Damon did not get a response anymore. It looked like First stopped talking altogether. Damon quickly became alert, and the very next moment, a blur of shadow energy assaulted him. Once again, it was not just the shadow. It was shadow mixed in with the abyssal essence.

Damon blocked it with several blood barriers as the attack was simply too fast for him to evade. But the blood barriers were blown up in an instant, and the impact hurled him backward. “I guess I am going to have to dip into the abyssal essence again.”

Damon put up another barrier just in time as the next attack instantly followed through. It was like a black, deadly cannonball was coming at him from all directions. The speed was so high that he needed every ounce of his focus, his mental energy, to muster a defense.

The First finally became serious, and Damon could see why he was the leader of the whole cult. The guy was damn powerful.

Damon was trying everything he could to counter, but he hadn’t used abyssal energy enough, and his control was not nearly the level he needed it to be.

Abyssal essence was slippery in a way mana wasn’t. It writhed inside his blood veins like something feral, something half-tamed and half-insulted that he dared to wield it.

Each time he pushed it into a barrier or a counterattack, it scattered wildly, refusing to hold shape for longer than a breath.

By the time he blocked the current attack, another blast slammed into him from the right, taking a chunk of his health along with it.
