Chapter 599: Don’t make this boring for me
Lirae didn’t even turn her head. She was soft-hearted, but she was not a fool, and she would definitely never be a liability in Damon’s path, ever. She was stubborn like that.
“You are the ones who summoned these killers.” Wind spiraled violently around her legs, kicking up dunes like ocean waves. “You invited Umbra’s Hand into your own house. You let them hunt me, hunt him… and you dare call yourselves my family?”
The patriarch staggered to his feet, green healing magic flashing desperately around him. He fought against the gale with all his strength and with his own elemental control, yet still slid back several steps.
“Child! Stop this madness!” he roared over the wind. “You’re losing control! This… this is not elven power! This is corruption!”
Lirae’s eyes snapped toward him, glowing entirely crimson for a moment. “Then why do you desire it so much?”
Several assassins who tried to sneak up behind Damon were instantly shredded, reduced to red mist. Their blood essence drifted to Damon, and their life force drifted toward Lirae. Smiling at this, she inhaled sharply, new power cracking across her skin like lightning in a sandstorm.
The queen shouted desperately, “Lirae, stop absorbing them! This is forbidden! This is… this is dark magic!”
Lirae turned fully toward her family then. Crimson eyes, a sand crown swirling behind her, winds bowing like servants. “No,” she said. “It is my magic. The magic of a blood elf!”
A sand blade lashed out, halting inches from the patriarch’s throat. The man had to do everything to just stop her attack because this time she attacked to kill. It was clear that everything had changed.
The Umbra’s hand was useless. Their elven attacks were futile. With the vampire next to her, Lirae appeared unstoppable.
Behind her, Damon smiled faintly. This was no fragile girl caught in politics. It looked like he no longer needed to focus on the small fries. Kaelthorn and Lirae were more than capable of handling things on their own.
Damon shifted his focus to the main enemy instead. The third. The guy was still standing leisurely and observing all the chaos around him with a big smile on his face. When he sensed Damon’s focused gaze on him, he smiled and turned towards Damon.
“Congratulations, I must say you have gotten yourself quite a bride there. What a lucky guy!” His tone was light, amused, almost genuinely impressed, but his eyes were pits of bottomless shadow.
He lifted a hand in lazy applause, each clap echoing across the battlefield. The swirling wind, the cutting sand, the storm of lances, none of it touched him. Damon frowned. He did not like this at all. The man was simply toying around with him and with the lives of his own cult members.
It was simply impossible for him to evade everything without even moving a muscle. Damon had the stats. He had the affinity. He had the skills. He was pretty sure the man in front of him was also a C rank, just like him. Then how was he easily able to evade everything?
Unless… he was using something that blocked him from reality itself. Some sort of phasing? Some sort of space magic?
The third assassin’s grin widened when he saw the recognition flicker in Damon’s eyes. “Ahh. Sharp. I like sharp people. The others were always so dreadfully boring.”
He spread his arms dramatically as the sandstorm tore apart another squad of Umbra’s Hand behind him.
“But look at this! A desert storm made of blood and sand, a newly crowned half-breed blood elf, a venom-soaked monstrous bloodsucker who kills elites without blinking… and all of it for love. How romantic.” He cupped his cheek. “I’m truly touched.”
Damon didn’t waste breath. A blood lance materialized at point-blank range and exploded through the man’s skull. Or rather, through the space the man’s skull would have occupied. The body dissolved into shadow, reforming a few steps away as if nothing had happened.
The third tilted his head. “Tsk, tsk. Violence when I am just doing some talking. You are an impatient one. If we fight already and I kill you in an instant, then how am I going to have some fun? Think about my plight a little, will you?”
Damon’s eyes narrowed. He completely blocked the asshole out and tried using his poison domain next. Thick, deadly miasma instantly spread out around him, completely enclosing the two of them and some of the unlucky assassins who died on the spot. Their bodies rotted before they even touched the ground.
But the Third? He simply stood there, still unaffected. Untouched. Poison drifted through him like smoke passing through empty air.
Damon’s frown deepened. He had poured everything into that domain. Yet this man… wasn’t enduring it. He wasn’t resisting it. He wasn’t countering it. He simply wasn’t there. The assassin wiggled his fingers cheerfully through the poisonous haze. The assassin grinned wider.
“What? Even your poison can’t hack it? Want to try more? Can you talk about something while you work? Don’t make this boring for me.”
Damon lifted his hand, mana gathering, but the next moment, he simply let it all disperse in his body. The other person might be saying a lot of things to taunt him, but his mind was clear. His path was clear.
Instead of doing anything to further attack or defend, he simply activated Blood Gate and created a portal straight to the Blood Hall. At the same time, to distract the guy he conjured several other blood swirls which looked very similar to Blood Gate.
“What is that attack? Is a blood dragon or something going to come out of that portal?” The third asked in excitement, enjoying the show.
Damon completely ignored him. He signaled for Lirae and Kaelthorn to look for an opportunity and enter the portal along with the elven slave girl. Sending them back home and away from here was the first priority.
