Chapter 597: Found you!
A blast of crimson blood erupted behind Damon, sealing the doorway in a writhing wall of venomous tendrils. Anyone foolish enough to get close recoiled instantly as their skin blistered from the faintest touch.
With that, he blasted upwards out of the cavernous network, and no one could stop him.
With Lirae held securely in his arms, Damon slammed through a narrow vertical passage, blood armor forming around both of them, and Kaelthorn and green eyes as jagged stone walls tried to scrape them. The protective shell devoured the friction, turning the climb into a smooth, controlled launch.
High elves stationed in the upper tunnels tried to intercept him, but the moment they raised their hands to cast, Damon’s poison-laced aura washed over them. Their knees buckled, weapons clattered to the floor, spells sputtered out.
One gasped, “H… He’s too fast!”
Another collapsed with a choked cry as the poisonous mana ate at his nerves.
“Move aside,” Damon warned, voice echoing like the snarl of a predator who didn’t even need to bare his teeth to terrify prey. They couldn’t step aside. Their legs weren’t listening anymore. They could only stand frozen in shock and paralysis as Damon soared past them.
Finally, the group of four was standing on top of the desert sands again. Sand exploded outward in a wide radius, forming a shallow crater around them. Damon landed first, blood armor dispersing into smoke-like wisps. He then set Lirae on her feet gently.
“I am sorry everything went to shit.” He smiled bitterly at the same time, opening up a Blood Gate.
Lirae shook her head before he could even pull away. Wind from the desert caught her silver and crimson hair, sending the strands dancing wildly. “No,” she said softly. “You didn’t cause any of this. They did. This is not your fault.”
Damon pressed his lips together, gaze flicking once toward the sealed cavern entrance behind them. “Still… I should have handled it differently. Anyways, none of the poison is lethal. I made sure that they won’t die from it. Well, I tried my best. At most, they would need a few days to recover.”
Lirae touched his cheek, steady and warm. “Thank you. I love you.”
A blood gate opened up in front of them, and just as Lirae was about to step in, a flicker of shadow crossed her neck. Lirae’s eyes widened in shock. Kaelthorn drew his blade.
But Damon was the fastest to react. He had already blocked the attack with his own blood essence. Without hesitation, he summoned his shadow clone, this time going all out.
Seeing his actions, a loud raucous laughter rang out. Figures of black appeared all around them, fully surrounding them. The Blood Gate Damon had opened, shattered and scattered on the desert floor as useless drops of blood.
Someone had just torn through Damon’s spatial blood magic as if it were paper. In a single second, their escape was completely blocked and blasted away.
Damon’s eyes narrowed. His blood essence surged, coating Lirae, Kaelthorn, and Green Eyes in a protective shell. The shadow clone solidified beside him, its form sharper, clearer, its aura far heavier than any previous manifestation.
“Umbra’s Hand…” Kaelthorn growled.
A mocking voice floated through the air. “Oh? The infamous Blood God actually tried to run? Oh, that won’t do.” A slow, amused chuckle followed. “Not when we finally found you.”
Damon’s jaw tightened. “Come out.”
“As you wish.”
Sand parted in front of him like the opening of a massive jaw, and a single figure rose from it, cloaked in pitch-black, his mask carved with three vertical slashes.
“Glad to meet you. They call me the third freak.” The man did a fake dramatic bow. “Tsk. Look at you. I expected someone… taller.”
Damon didn’t respond. Various thoughts were running in his mind.
The masked figure turned toward Lirae. “And there she is, the little runaway elf whose bloodline has… changed.” His gaze drifted over the crimson threaded in her silver hair. “You are not supposed to not from your own family, little elf. Go back. Or I might just kill you accidentally.”
His tone remained teasing, but the killing intent behind it was suffocating. The man’s grin sharpened under his mask. “Blood God. Blood Elf. Blademaster. Slave.” He spread his arms wide, theatrically welcoming them.
“You’ve been quite busy. But this is where your journey ends.”
Damon stepped forward, placing himself fully between Lirae and the assassins. He no longer had any doubt. Umbra’s hand showing up here was not a coincidence.
Blood churned around him like a crimson storm. Shadow pooled beneath him like the mouth of an abyss. This was going to be a bloodbath.
Damon did not waste any time. Blood tendrils shot up everywhere, and hundreds of crimson lances appeared in the sky, all burning with the wrath of hell.
The third playfully tilted his head up, studying the forest of death hanging above them. “…Well,” he murmured. “That’s excessive.”
Damon did not hold back. With a flick of his fingers, the lances descended.
The first lance hit the ground with a deafening boom, kicking up a wave of crimson sand. Another pierced through a fleeing silhouette, exploding into a bloom of gore. A third twisted like a serpent midair and impaled two assassins through the spine. Screams tore through the dunes.
The assassins couldn’t dodge the chaotic storm of blood lances. They flickered, shifted, vanished into shadows and reappeared in complete random spots but the lances arrived nevertheless.
A man who reappeared thirty meters away collapsed mid-step as a lance drilled through his throat. Another burrowed into the sand using shadow merge, only for the ground beneath him to rupture as a lance detonated in a geyser of blood-soaked shards.
Damon looked like he was simply standing there. But every lance in the sky, every tendril under the sand, every shard of blood moving with murderous precision… It all obeyed his command. Everything in the domain was under his control. It was absolute domination!
