Chapter 510: What is wrong with her?
Damon’s gaze narrowed as he watched her wings ruffle slightly, the black feathers catching no light yet radiating a suffocating presence. This wasn’t some cosmetic makeover. This was evolution. Transformation. Pain-fueled metamorphosis.
For someone who had once stood for light, to now command darkness so naturally, it wasn’t just a shift in power. It was a complete redefinition of self.
And Aurora…
She hadn’t crumbled under it. She had embraced it. Whatever she had sacrificed, her divinity, her faction, maybe even her faith, she had done it with terrifying conviction.
Even with her superior bloodline and gifts she was born with, she still must have gone through countless struggles and sufferings to get to this point.
And she had embraced all of the pain and the torture that came along with it willingly… all for him?
Damon exhaled slowly.
He wasn’t sure whether to feel honored, terrified, or furious. Maybe all three. What kind of madness had she endured? What had she torn apart within herself and in the world to stand here now?
Damon clenched his fist. Why couldn’t this woman behave even a little bit rational and logical?
He did not deserve any of this damn it. From the beginning, he had only considered her an ally at best. He had always thought of her as a nuisance and a lunatic who was merely plotting something behind his back.
Damon’s jaw tightened as he looked away, unable to meet her eyes for more than a moment. He had done nothing to deserve so much. He was an asshole and a bastard and was definitely not worthy of such an intense feeling. Why was she like this over him?
For the love of all things that were sane, he simply couldn’t understand. It was like she was fixated on him. She was obsessed with him. Every time he pushed her away, she came back stronger. Every time he questioned her loyalty, she responded with actions that drowned out all doubts.
What was wrong with her?
Aurora bit her lips on seeing Damon’s reaction. “Do you not like what you see, my love?”
Damon flinched slightly. This girl was ridiculous! What was she saying? How could she say things like this?
As if she wasn’t standing there cloaked in darkness, exuding the kind of pressure that made even veteran guild leaders piss their pants. As if she wasn’t a divine juggernaut of corrupted grace and fury.
Damon exhaled again. He then looked at her and smiled helplessly. “How could I still not like the way you look? You are terrifying and beautiful at the same time. I like it. I like all of it.”
Aurora’s eyes lit up. “Terrifying enough to stand beside you? I can now stand and fight beside you, Blood God. I am no longer helpless. I don’t have to watch from a distance anymore. I can be right here with you. I am strong! I can be with you all the time! I can be with you everywhere!”
She took a step forward, her wings folding slightly behind her, the dark feathers brushing against the golden battlefield aura. Where they touched, the light curled inwards and died.
Damon bitterly smiled. “All the time, huh? You want to be with me ‘all the time’ and ‘everywhere’?” He then shook his head and made a decision. “Fuck it. I love your crazy. You can be with me all you want. Come, let’s take care of these bastards together first.”
Aurora blinked. For a split second, her entire terrifying aura flickered, her wings fluttering like a startled bird’s. The pitch-black abyss in her eyes shimmered faintly, betraying a trace of overwhelming emotion. She then happily skipped over, unleashing a wave of intense darkness.
“Domain of hell!” She smiled and sweetly said as a horrendous aura seeped out of her and engulfed the area of battlefield they were standing on in a storm of blackened divinity.
The light of the holy barrier trembled. The sanctified earth cracked. Black fire rose from the ground. Aurora’s domain expanded like a rotting bloom, beautiful, terrible, and utterly suffocating.
It was clear that she had officially stepped into the C rank. Her level was only 110 which should put her at early C rank at most but the power she exuded right now rivaled that of a peak C rank expert.
Damon whistled low. “Well… shit.”
He hadn’t expected her to become this strong but then again, this was just the beginning of what a fallen angel could do. Even Blood Reign turned to give her a acknowledging nod.
Aurora, still smiling like a simple woman in love, turned her head slightly. “This is just the outer layer of my domain. I’ve sealed away most of it. I didn’t want to melt your soul by accident, my love.”
Damon coughed. “Very thoughtful of you.”
But even as he made jokes, his fingers flexed with readiness.
A paladin NPC at the front line dropped his sword, face pale. “W-What is that thing? That’s not an angel! That’s a demon! A devil in disguise!”
“A fallen angel,” Damon corrected. He quickly ended the guy’s life with a few blood daggers sent to his throat back to back.
Activating [Precise Shot] a skill he had gained from someone from this very battleground, his aim was perfect and he brought down the guy’s health rapidly.
He extended his hand toward the battlefield, blood and darkness swirling together around his palm. Aurora came up beside him, her eyes locked on the trembling line of enemies. “Shall we?”
Damon grinned, his fangs glinting. “Let the slaughter begin!”
And with that, the battlefield descended into madness.
Blood howled and shadows danced as the twin storms of Damon and Aurora unleashed themselves upon the army.
Damon vanished from view, moving like a specter within Aurora’s domain. The blackened terrain boosted his stealth and shadow abilities tenfold, the corrupted divine energy amplifying his vampiric abilities.
Crimson slashes carved through armor, and blood splattered like rain as Damon went all out.
