Chapter 491: Three… Two… One… Zero and it begins!
Varnyx was an experienced veteran. He already knew what Damon was about to say. “A couple more minutes at most, my Lord.” He hurriedly answered with a bow.
“Fuck it. Break the dome now. Collapse it and send out our forces. The archers, the mages and the long-range troops need to act now to go the maxiumum damage. Erin’s miasma is at its strongest right now, and we need to take full advantage of it.” Damon ordered decisively.
Every second the barrier was up, it was their advantage, and they would be draining the resources of the opposition. But it was also good to know when to stop.
Varnyx quickly acted and pulled up the system screen. The next second, all the vampires assembled in the city heard a booming voice. “It begins now. The barrier is coming down. You have 10 seconds to prepare yourself!”
Varnyx’s voice rolled through every street and cellar. “Ten… nine… eight…”
“Archers to roofs. Mages to the ledges. Long-range, load now. Gate teams brace. Sewers, open the vents on my mark.”
“Seven… six…”
“We, the warriors of blood will never crumble! We will fight to the last breath! We will kill, and drink to our heart’s content! We will show these dogs who the world belongs to! This is just the beginning. Soon their will be blood and death everywhere and we will rule over the ruins! We will enslave these pious hideous dogs and turn them into our cattle! Their gold will be ours and their women will be ours! Glory to the Blood Hall! Glory to the Blood God!”
“Five… four…”
Erin spread her wings, breath coiling in her throat, already prepared to unleash mass destruction and chaos.
“Three…”
Damon disappeared and the next second appeared near the dome, touching it lightly with his claw. A thick and dense poison essence leaked from his body to the blood of the dome, quickly changing its color from red to black.
“Two…”
Varnyx moved his index finger and created a sigil in the air.
The entire city held its breath. Every single vampire within the walls waited with bated breath.
“One.”
“Kill! Slaughter! Feed to your heart’s content!” Varnyx’s voice boomed as the blood dome exploded outward, spilling blood and poison everywhere.
The dome blew like a bloody sun. A shockwave of red and black tore across the plain. Shields flashed, then cracked. The first ranks outside dropped without a scream. Blood rained. Poison hissed where it fell.
Before the explosion even settled, a wave of fresh attacks landed on the armies. Blood arrows and blood bolts filled the sky. Power-packed blood spheres were released onto the masses.
Defenses were quickly erected by the opposition but the sheer amount of attacks broke the solid defenses over and over again. The opening of the battle once again went to the vampires with more than a third of each army annhilated just by the these attacks.
And it was not nearly over.
In the midst of this mayhem, Erin’s figure blasted over the skies raining terror everywhere she went.
Ellora, Kaelthorn, Kate and Mark finally made their move. Along with them, a bunch of C rank vampire NPCs busted out of the Blood Hall. The close range fighters left the city gates and landed smack dab in the middle of the enemy lines. The blood manipulators stayed back and rained hell from a distance.
The enemy lines buckled. The kill counts started shooting up and the numbers in all three armies quickly dwindled.
However, this was just the beginning. The light faction army did not come to Niera to get slaughtered after all. While all of these attacks took care of the weaker cannon fodder, the main force held strong, protected by multiple divine and holy barriers which did not allow a single attack to pass through.
And when the first wave of back to back attacks faded, the opposition finally showed their hand. It looked like they had been waiting for this moment all this while. One of the C-rank powerhouses took a horn and blew and the morale of the entire army instantly lifted.
Not just the morale, but their mental clarity as well returned. Erin’s miasma appeared visible thinned down and many who were sluggish and dizzy straightened back up, ready for battle.
Damon could also clearly feel a change in the environment. The divine aura and the holy energy in the battlefield slowly started to increase. Every single divine or holy attack or block or heal gained extra boost and the whole table had turned in an instant.
“That bloody Horn is a legendary item!” Damon’s eyes gleamed. Though his instincts screamed at him to rush directly to that C-rank powerhouse and plunder that legendary item he had dangled in front of his eyes, he restrained himself.
Just in time because it looked like a few of the C rank vampires had the same idea.
About five recruited C rank vampires, all of them Blood Generals headed straight for the bulky muscular man sitting inconsipucously on a horse back in the middle of ordinary troops. At first glance, there was nothing special about him and when someone like him took out a legendary item, it was the obvious choice to pounce on him and steal it.
However, the very second proved that this was a grave mistake.
As soon as the five C rank Blood Generals closed in, the ground under their boots flashed. A pale circle snapped open around the horse and the man. Lines of gold ran out like a web. Instantly five golden cages appeared around the five Blood Generals.
Before they could even try and get out of the cages, blinding lightning and thunder crashed within the cages and turned each cage into a death trap.
The five Blood Generals jerked like puppets. One tried to blink out. He hit the bars and snapped back, armor smoking. Another raised a blood shield and the lightning ate it like paper. A third swung his axe and the blade went dull, then bright, and then cracked in half.
All of their efforts were naught. There was simply no escape from the cages. Soon, the intensity of the lightning inside the cage went up a notch.
