Chapter 1900: A few pests
“Chief, what are you doing here?”

When we turned around, we saw that it was Max, the miracle healer, who had suddenly come out of the house.

Unlike before where he just completely ignored everything else, it seemed like he at least cared about this old man.

But that wasn’t strange since this old man was the one that created this village in the first place.

For Max to have moved in, it was only natural that he would have had to talk to the old man who was the chief of this village, as he called him.

However, I was a bit surprised by the tone that Max used when addressing this old man.

After all, there was this trace of respect that wasn’t there previously.

Though it only made sense since he was the one that had accepted Max into the village in the first place. If it wasn’t for him, then it wasn’t as if Max would have been able to build his house here with all the trouble that he caused.

The village chief gave a nod to Max before saying, “You came at the right time. Since you’re about to leave, you can help me take care of a few things before you leave.”

Max seemed surprised and a bit annoyed, but it seemed like he held himself back in the end.

Since the other side was someone that he respected, it seemed that he was able to hold himself back in the end.

The village chief turned back to me and said, “There’s been a few pests that have been sneaking into our village recently and since you’re taking the one that’s been dealing with them…” He turned to look at Zeldir when he said this before turning back to say, “You’ll have to take care of this for us before you leave.”

Zeldir gave a snort, but he didn’t say anything.

However, the look in his eyes made it seem like he was confident in the ones that he was leaving behind to deal with them.

Only I couldn’t help feeling that it was a bit strange the way that the village chief said this.

The only one that can deal with them…

If that was the case, there had to be something special about the pests that he was talking about.

The only thing special that I could think of when it came to things that were hard to deal with…

“Corruption energy monsters?”

The village chief didn’t say anything when I said this, but the smile that appeared on his face when he said this was more than enough to show what he meant by this.

Instead of saying something about this, he just said, “It seems like you’re willing to accept this task. In that case, I’ll just leave it to you.”

Right after saying this, he turned around to leave.

But before he did leave, he suddenly stopped and turned back to say, “Old friend, it has been a long time that we’ve spent together. I hope that you’ll be well in the future.”

It was only natural that the one that he was saying this to was Zeldir.

After all, there was no one else that this village chief could have called an old friend other than him.

However, Zeldir just had a calm look on his face when the village chief said this.

The village chief didn’t seem to mind that Zeldir didn’t say anything as he just gave a nod with a smile before turning back to leave.

At that moment, I couldn’t help feeling that I had mistaken something.

It didn’t seem like the village chief had come here to stop Zeldir from leaving.

It seemed like he had come here to say goodbye to someone that he considered an old friend…

Seeing this, I couldn’t help looking at Zeldir and asking, “Are you sure that it’s alright for you to leave like this?”

Zeldir didn’t say anything at first, but eventually he said with a sigh, “This is how the terms of the contract were, so there’s nothing to worry about. We both knew that this day would come, so doing more would just be rubbing salt in the wounds.”

I was caught off guard hearing this, but I could hear the honesty in his voice.

If this was what Zeldir was saying, then I guess there really was nothing for me to worry about.

Instead, I changed the topic by asking, “What are the pests that you’ve been taking care of for them?”

Zeldir’s expression became a bit more serious as he said, “They’re everywhere since the seal has been weakening, it’s not strange that there would be a few here since this is the best place to hide.”

“Can you show me where they were?” I said in a serious voice.

Zeldir gave a nod before turning as if he wanted to lead the way.

But before that…

“Wait, we’ll need to see what he needs.”

Max had been silent the entire time, but it wasn’t as if he could be silent when I tossed the conversation to him. Though it wasn’t as if he really seemed to care since he had been lost in thought over something.

After a while, he went over to his house as if he wanted to grab something.

I followed him just to see him tossing things all over the place, but it wasn’t as if he was doing this just to create a mess. With the way that he tossed things, it was clear that there was something that he was searching for.

After a while, it seemed like he finally found the thing that he was looking for and he turned back to say, “We can go now.”

I didn’t really recognize the thing that he was holding, but since this was the thing that he wanted to bring along…

“Alright, you can take us to the place that you encountered those pests from before.”

Zeldir just gave a nod before leading the way.
