Chapter 1899: The first contractor
After the miracle healer agreed, he said that he still had to pack a few things up before leaving.
From the state of his house, I didn’t even want to think about how much he would have to clean before he would even be able to find the things that he was looking for.
The good thing was that he didn’t want any help at all.
Though it was more that he didn’t want anyone touching his things since he didn’t trust anyone to touch his things.
Since he needed some time to pack, I went outside with Dorothy since I wanted to see what kind of things she was capable of now.
Though when we came out, there was someone there waiting for us.
I wasn’t surprised to see this person since he had quite the memorable appearance.
This was something that I had already seen in the game, so I knew who he was the moment that I saw him.
The reason that he was here was because I had been baiting him the entire time.
He was the one person that I wanted to see since he was the one that was in charge of this village of the Lost Ones. He was the one that had created the contract with the monsters that were here to protect it.
Though now that I knew that the real identity of the monsters was a messenger of the gods, it meant that his person was someone that had formed a contract with the gods.
This definitely meant that he wasn’t a normal person, though I already knew this.
Though his appearance…was like a neighbourhood grandfather that one could see everywhere. The one special thing about his appearance was the staff that he carried around everywhere with him.
After a moment of silence, he suddenly said with a smile, “Are you already leaving?”
I was surprised to be asked this, but I calmly said, “I’ve already accomplished what I wanted to accomplish in this place, so there’s no need for me to stay here any longer.”
“After causing such a commotion, you’re already leaving? That doesn’t really seem appropriate.” He said this in a calm voice, but there was a glow that appeared at the tip of his staff that showed that he wasn’t as calm as he seemed.
It seemed like he was getting ready to use force to stop us if he needed to.
But I didn’t panic as I said, “This is a place where one can come and go freely, isn’t it? It’s a sanctuary for those that have nowhere else to go, that was why you created this place to begin with.”
He looked back at me with a smile on his face, but this was a smile that didn’t seem to reach his eyes.
I didn’t say anything since there was nothing that I needed to say.
What I had just said were the rules of this place, the rules that he had set up himself.
In that case, there really wasn’t anything else that I needed to say.
Since they were made by him, they were the perfect weapon to use against.
After a moment of silence, the old man lowered his staff and turned to look at Zeldir to say, “I never thought that someone would be able to convince you to follow them.”
Zeldir didn’t seem surprised at all as he said with a shrug, “Unlike you who only made a contract with our god, he is one that is chosen by the gods. He’s someone with a completely different path than yours.”
It almost seemed like Zeldir was making fun of the old man when he said this, but this wasn’t the case.
They were just close enough that he was able to say something like this without actually hurting the old man’s feelings.
After another moment of silence, he suddenly broke out in laughter and said, “So you’re going for something better. I thought that you were better than that.”
This time, Zeldir didn’t say anything.
After laughing for a while, the old man finally said, “Alright, you can do whatever you want. However, you still have to tell me what you’re planning to do about the contract.”
“The rest of my tribe is still here, so there’s nothing to worry about. Things will be exactly the same.”
“Will it? When you will be leaving?” The old man said in an accusatory voice.
Zeldir looked at the old man with a calm look on his face as if he wasn’t bothered by these words.
I finally said, “The contract that you formed will be kept, is there really a meaning to this? If you’re just jealous, then just say it out loud.”
“You…” The old man narrowed his eyes to look at me after I cut in like this before raising his staff once more.
There was a tense moment of silence as he stood there pointing the staff at me, but it wasn’t as if I was going to back down.
In the end, he suddenly broke out in laughter again.
Once he did this, the tense mood that was in the air disappeared and it was replaced with a relaxed mood instead.
After laughing for a bit, he wiped a tear from his eyes before saying, “I’m sorry for testing you like that. If I didn’t, I really wouldn’t have known if I could trust you with this or not.”
I was a bit surprised hearing this, but this was what I had figured to be the case to begin with.
I already had an idea of what kind of personality this old man had from the game. Even if it wasn’t going to be exactly the same, it wasn’t as if it would be that different from how it was in the game.
It would at least use that as a base since he was based on the character from that world.
After he finished saying this, he said, “There’s something that I want you to help me with.”
