Chapter 1890: More than what meets the eye
“Stay in here. Don’t leave under any circumstances.” I said in a firm voice.
Though Dorothy looked worried when I said this, she didn’t say anything in the end since she could see the look that was on my face. Even if she wanted to say something, it wasn’t as if there was anything that she could say when I was this serious.
Of course, I didn’t leave her alone.
Though the one that I left behind didn’t seem happy that I was leaving her behind.
So to appease her, I said, “I’m trusting you to keep her safe.”
When it was an order like this, it was only natural that the Fenrir would be happy to follow it.
But there was one strange thing about the way that the Fenrir acted.
It didn’t seem like the Fenrir was worried even though this place was completely surrounded by those dark figures. It was as if she wasn’t worried that they would be able to do anything to me.
In fact, it looked like she already knew that everything would be alright.
The strange thing about this was the fact that this look didn’t seem like she just had confidence in me. This look almost seemed like she already knew what would happen, as if she could see the future.
“Do you know something about them?” I asked her just in case.
The Fenrir looked at me without saying anything.
I couldn’t read the look on her face since it wasn’t as if I could see through her wolf face in the first place. I thought that I was getting better, but I really couldn’t see through it at all.
However, there was something about the look in her eyes that really made it seem like she knew something.
In the end, I didn’t say anything else since I knew that she wouldn’t actually say anything.
There was no point trying to get an answer out of the Fenrir if she wasn’t going to say anything.
So I just said, “Stay here and keep her safe.”
This time, the Fenrir gave a nod in response.
When I came out of the room, I found that it wasn’t as calm as it seemed from inside of the room.
When I came into the main lobby, I found that there was a group that was gathered.
It wasn’t just the people that ran this inn that were panicking, it was also the guests that were also gathered here. Since they stayed in this place, it was only natural that they knew about what happened at night and what these dark figures gathered here were.
When I came forward, everyone suddenly turned to me.
It wasn’t hard to guess what they were thinking with the way that they looked at me, but they didn’t say anything in the end. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to say anything, it was more that they were hesitating because they didn’t know anything about me.
The people that came to this village in the first place weren’t normal people.
There was no telling how strong the person that came to this village met, so there was no one that dared to look down on anyone that came here.
But I could tell from the way that they looked at me that they wanted me to go out and deal with what was outside.
In the end, I just asked the old man who had been behind the counter, “What is going on?”
He had a very strange look on his face, but he still said, “None of us know, this just happened all of a sudden. This is something that has never happened before today.”
Though he said it like this was something that was confusing to him, the way that he looked at me as he said the last part made it clear what he was really implying.
It was the same with the others.
“What are you planning to do?” I asked as if I didn’t understand what he said.
The old man narrowed his eyes to look at me before saying, “There’s nothing that we can do. If they want to destroy this place, there really is nothing that we can do to stop them.”
Since being subtle didn’t work, it seemed like he switched to being aggressive.
I didn’t blame him for this since I was sure that not just him, but everyone that was here was scared for their lives. This was something that had never happened in the history of this place being built, so they really didn’t know how to respond.
After thinking about it, I decided…
“Then who will come with me to see what is happening outside?”
Everyone was caught off guard when they heard this, but then they all looked away.
It was clear that none of them wanted to go outside since they were afraid of the dark figures that were surrounding the inn.
However, it wasn’t as if I was going to go out there on my own.
It was one thing if I was alone, but it wasn’t as if I was going to let anyone turn me into their scapegoat.
“Then I guess I won’t go either.”
Everyone seemed to panic when they heard this and there were some that looked anxious.
Finally, one of them came forward and said, “It’s clear that they’re acting this way because of you. You should go out there and…”
Before he could finish what he was saying, he fell to the ground with his eyes rolled back in their sockets.
Everyone was caught off guard, but there was nothing that they could do.
After all, a single punch was all that it took to take them down and they collapsed like they were a ragdoll.
After knocking them out, I asked, “Is there anyone else that has anything to say?”
Everyone remained silent after I asked this.
It was as if they were too afraid to say anything.
Force really was the best way to convince them in this place.
