Chapter 1889: A lot of noise
“What is it?” Dorothy asked in a curious voice.

But I just shook my head to show that I didn’t know.

Though this was a lie, even if it wasn’t a complete lie.

I had an idea of what was outside from my knowledge of the game, but I didn’t have the full picture either since it had never been explained in the game.

It just said that there was some kind of dangerous beast that was outside and there was a forced battle with it if the player did go outside. Though that battle showed the monster as an unknown and it wasn’t even possible to defeat it.

So in the end, the identity of the monster that lived in this place remained a secret.

“Don’t even think about it. It’s dangerous.” I already knew what she was thinking when she looked out the window like this.

It would have been a lie if I said that there wasn’t a part of me that was also interested in this, but I knew that it was too dangerous to do something like this.

That was why I didn’t agree with the look on Dorothy’s face that was showing what she wanted to do.

In the end, I closed the curtains again and said, “You should rest up for tomorrow. I don’t know what he will do to help you suppress it, but it shouldn’t be easy. You should be in the best condition you can be when the time comes.”

Dorothy’s expression changed when she heard this.

After a moment of silence, she gave a nod to show that she agreed with this and went to find a room to sleep in.

There were plenty of rooms to sleep in, but it seemed like she wanted to pick out one that would be hers.

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a faint smile when I saw this, but it did show that she was still a child.

It wasn’t as if it was a bad thing that she was acting like a child.

She never had the chance to act like a child before, so I was happy to see that she could let her guard down and act this way around me.

I didn’t say anything as I sat down beside the window.

From time to time, I opened the curtain a bit and peeked outside to see if I could find anything.

But even with my eyes that were stronger than normal eyes, I wasn’t able to see anything.

The other strange thing was that there wasn’t even the flow of mana for me to follow.

I had been able to see the flow of mana after everything that happened to me, but I wasn’t able to see it now.

That meant that whatever was here was powerful enough that it was able to even suppress the natural mana that should have existed in this place. There was no doubt that this was something that was extremely powerful.

It made me wonder how the one that created this village was even able to make a contract with this thing.

After a while, Dorothy found the room that she wanted to sleep in.

When she did, I went over to read her a story.

This was a bedtime ritual that we had taken to doing and had been doing ever since.

I was happy to do it since it gave her a chance to act like a child and she was happy since she had never heard these stories before. It was the reason why I kept a bunch of children’s books in my Storage Ring.

Though from time to time, I did slip in a few stories from my past life.

They were good fairy tales from my past life, so there was no reason not to share them with her.

Only I didn’t even get to start reading when a loud sound came from outside.

The moment that I heard this sound, I couldn’t help feeling that it was strange.

Before this, this place had been so quiet that I even wondered if there was anyone else here.

For there to be this sound all of a sudden, it was clear that something had happened.

“Stay here.” I said to Dorothy even though she looked like she wanted to follow me to see what was happening. But in the end, she remained in bed when she saw the serious look on my face.

When I came over to the window, I was surprised to find…

“What are those dark figures?”

These were dark figures that hadn’t been there before, but now they seemed to surround this place. It seemed like they had appeared out of thin air with how they suddenly appeared.

After all, these dark figures were just too big to have been something that I missed.

It was something that had to have appeared all of a sudden.

Though why it appeared all of a sudden like this was still a mystery.

At the same time, it was clear that they were surrounding the inn.

It seemed like there was something that they needed from this place.

Or it was better to say that there was something that they needed from someone that was inside of this building.

As for who it was…

There were only so many people that were staying in this place to begin with and it wasn’t as if there were any others that had shown up today.

They were the only ones that checked in today most likely…

For these dark figures to appear today out of all days, it seemed like it was very likely related to them.

Though I just couldn’t figure out what we had done to offend them or what about us would attract them like this.

Unless it had something to do with Dorothy…

These are dark figures…

They look like they were made from corruption energy.

Then did that mean that the monsters that were in this place was related to corruption energy in some way?
