Rivers of the Night - Chapter 704
704: Solo G*** 704: Solo G*** Theron was in a bit of a dilemma.
The female assassin’s door was between himself and the figure, but he also understood the layout of this tower by reverse-engineering it from his time in the main pavilion.
If he was correct, there should only be one room around that corner.
And if it worked like other assassins’ organizations, the man who had just come out from that corner was the strongest assassin on this floor, and as such, had been given the best room.
That meant he was even stronger than the female assassin who had heavily injured him.
But this was a minor issue at the moment.
The real problem was that the female assassin’s room was one of the last in the entire hallway.
At this pace, because of where he was standing now, Theron was already caught between a rock and a hard place.
That was because logically speaking, he could only be one of three people already.
If he walked past the assassin, then he could only be one of two.
If the assassin turned back to watch him, feeling like something was off, he was screwed because this assassin would obviously know that Theron had no business walking around the corner where there was only one room left.
All of this played out for Theron in a split moment, his mind working so fast he already knew what the issues were.
If only he had been able to prepare in advance.
Unfortunately, the isolation qualities of these assassin rooms-especially on these high floors-were too good.
He hadn’t been able to sense the man until he stepped out from his abode, and by the time he did, there was already no place to hide.
Feeling the weight of the situation, one might have expected panic.
But Theron’s expression didn’t even change, the wisps of black fog radiating from him continuing.
He knew that based on everything here already, he might have already been exposed.
If there were no Dark Mancers amongst these last three rooms, then he was as good as finished.
This individual was at least in the Sixth Dome of Heaven Resonance, and even if he managed to escape, where would he go?
Theron made a choice instantly.
He didn’t try to fake it, turning toward the female assassin’s room and entering in a swift motion before the figure could say or do anything.
He closed it behind him, sealing it shut.
The instant he did, a ticking timer started in his head.
… The figure in the hallway flashed forward and landed before the door, reaching forward and then suddenly snapping his hand back.
There was a gloominess in his eye at the moment.
If he had been a hint slower, he would have lost all of his fingers in that exchange just now.
Who was that just now?
There were no Dark Mancers on this floor.
Dark Mancers were actually rare at this branch.
That was because all of them would prefer to be in Umbra Clan territory where it was far easier to cultivate Dark Mana.
The Shonagh Clan was a Clan of Soul Mancers, and their territory better reflected that.
That wasn’t to say they were mostly Soul Mancers here, but there was a significant population of Soul Mancers nonetheless.
The number of Elemental Mancers was substantial and more of a true majority… well, if you included Flux Mancers, that is.
But the main problem with that was the fact that there were too many Elements, so no one Element had a large advantage over another-at least not here.
This room was also that of an assassin this man knew.
It was Savali’s room, and she was a Flux Mancer that specialized in close-combat speed.
With a step, the man vanished in a whirlwind of Wind Mana.
He didn’t have the strength to break down these doors; he would have to report this.
… Theron’s gaze flashed like lightning as he scanned the room.
He immediately dismissed the idea of trying to manipulate the formations to buy him extra time.
Setting aside the fact that he hadn’t done any real studying on formations yet, not having had enough time, even if he had, the formations here-according to his understanding-would be far beyond the Gold Mancy ceiling of the Doctrines he had access to right now.
That was especially so since this territory had a large population of Soul Mancers.
The formations built here were probably an order above those built anywhere else.
But Theron was still not panicking.
Interesting woman.
The room was quite plain, all things considered… except for the wall of sex toys set into a floor-to-ceiling bookcase.
One would have expected it to be a place of literature and learning just by the number of shelves there were, but instead, it had become one of the most ridiculous things Theron had ever seen.
Theron doubted any assassin worth their salt would ever let anyone else into their abode.
That meant that everything on that shelf was made for her to use by herself… How did she even have time to cultivate?
It felt like her making it as far as the Dome of Heaven Realm was either a miracle, or she was a shocking talent.
Though, it was possible that her cultivation technique required it.
That said, Theron had vaguely heard of Dual Cultivation methods in the Daggers of the Night before.
But he had never heard of any solo sex techniques.
He shook his head and ignored the wall for the moment.
The rest of the room was extremely normal by comparison, and Theron didn’t find anything of interest.
That shouldn’t be right.
There was a reason Theron was so familiar with this top floor.
It was because he had reverse-engineered what it should be like from his time on another top floor.
That was why Theron knew that it couldn’t have been a coincidence that the female assassin fell from the ceiling.
There had to be some sort of path she had created from here to the main pavilion-one so well hidden even Theron hadn’t found it yet, despite knowing it had to exist.
And time was ticking.
Theron looked toward the sex wall again.
